Great video. Suggestion, Get on a ZR2 fan site and find some friends that enjoy it as much as we do. Really, very little limit to what this truck can do. I also have the 2024 ZR2 and traded my 2018 ZR2. Always best to go in at least pairs and well... just wing it. This truck is amazing and so fun to drive.

I got tired of the issue and just run a wire from the cigarette lighter in my console to my i-phone that I put in the slot between the (kinda useless) cupholders. Since I have a thumbdrive with all my music sticking out of that USB drive there it means that I don't have to keep worrying about damaging it or the USB in the dash. I just use that shelf for my wallet now, which I need to grab a LOT less when driving than my phone.

  • @CurtGodwin

That's one of my favorite trails. Since you went by the Ranger camp, you must've exited WSG a bit early. That road goes even further into the mountains, eventually going by a trout farm and an pretty old primitive church... ending up on/near US 60 north of Suches. Very cool stuff. When the leaves start changing, I plan to take a day off in the middle of the week to head up there to avoid some of the weekend crowds. There are also a few clearings across the ridgeline where the Rangers practice landing zone deployments, rappelling, etc..

I notice you have apple car play saved on the 'shelf' on your infotainment. You can just hold your home button a second or two (the bottom cube) and car play pops up. You can use that spot for another icon if you want. Also, the drive modes (terrain, baja etc) will turn off traction control and adjust settings for you, so you def should learn them. Baja mode even has a launch mode for 'drag race' style starts. It's pretty wild.

Sure, a premium trim of a midsize truck costs the same as a basic trim fullsize but that's the same for about any vehicle. For the features I wanted in my next vehicle, a full size truck was going to cost me $70-80k. A Silverado ZR2 is easily $80k where I got the Colorado ZR2 for under $50k. BIG price difference

Wife and I did a full circuit a month ago, test driving Gladiator Rubicon, Colorado ZR2, and new Tacoma TRD Off-Road. Gladiator was roomiest on inside with Colorado not far behind. 24' Tacoma also didn't have rear AC vents, and I live in Texas, so no go there. Toyota was way off with their trim pricing. On top of that, they need to take note of Colorado / Canyon's standard features and package pricing. Upgrades within a trim should be subtle, not feel like you're stepping into a completely different tier of vehicle. That's what it's like going from a TRD Off-Road standard build to their $8800 premium package. Ranger Raptor feels like it's just sitting alone there, and Ford forgot the rest of the Ranger trims. I think they were really putting all their resources into pushing the Maverick instead, and had just enough time to make their super ranger that is barely a ranger in comparison to the lower trims. GM can leave the G80 in like the Z71, but they need to put a selectable rear locker in the Trail Boss and AT4. I think they could have pulled a few more Taco loyalists if they had.

    • @GeorgiaZR2

As a noob offroader who wanted to get into overlanding (not the super rock-crawly stuff requiring constant spotters) and always going out solo, I wanted as much capability as possible, but in a truck not SUV format because of the fixed roof and bed for it's utility. As a long-time Toyota owner with a 2010 V6 AWD RAV4 that I've put 212k miles on now since new with few issues, I wanted a Tacoma. BUT, they STILL didn't have a factory front locker, and that was the dealbreaker for me. Then when I saw the prices on them being $12k more for an equivalent truck WITHOUT a front locker (and now with the 'Taco blown shock issues) that was just confirmation. So, I looked at a Ranger Raptor, and while the extra 95hp would be nice, it's not worth the extra $6k and you can't get a power moonroof, PLUS, with the extra $5k-$10k markups on anything with a "Raptor" name, that was the dealbreaker for me. so, for the $53k MSRP I picked up a 2024 fully loaded w/power moonroof in blue March 16th of this year. LOVE it! I've got 8,200 miles on it now, with 5 full days offroading in Moab, and another 1/2 day in CO. Just got back from a 3,700 mile trip in 11 days to Glacier Nat'l Park and back with the last 1-1/2 days wheeling in Moab on the way home. No issues other than a check engine light (no real issues, cleared, never came back) at about 400 miles, a bad wheel valve stem (leaking) at about 4,000 miles, and a few random adaptive cruise control glitches (turned off) during my trip. Not the greatest MPG's, but in normal driving (with tires aired up to 45psi for around town and long trip on the highway) I'm getting about 18-18.5, and even got 17.3 average on that whole Glacier trip which included 85mph into massive headwinds in WY (of course) and 10 mpg when wheeling with the tires aired down. So, I like the power (though there is a little lag) and the mileage is decent, I mean, it IS a truck with front and rear lockers.

I owned a 2019 Colorado ZR2 V6 great truck but in 2024 I wanted to get something else. Narrowed it down to a 2024 Colorado ZR2 or a 2024 Ranger Raptor. Both have their Pro's and Con's and I'm not saying that the New 4cyl ZR2 is a bad truck because it is not, but honestly after test driving both the Ranger Raptor with its twin turbo V6 with 405hp won the day for me bought the RR right after the test drive. Also, Ford Performance just came out with a New Tune for $800 dollars that bumps up the numbers on the RR significantly 455hp and 536 lb - ft of torque.

I looked at all the midsize trucks & the ZR2 is the best looking by far; also the most capable at about $50K (depending on options). The Ford Ranger Raptor would probably be my top choice overall, but I can’t find one for under $60K. Anyhow, absolutely solid choice! 🇺🇸👍🏻

I also was looking to get a ZR2 -- back in April 2021 that is -- but couldn't get one. Not only were Chevy dealership lots pretty bare of almost all new vehicle inventory, GM's chip shortage was serious back then so "my" ZR2 (put $1K down on it) was parked at the GM Assembly Plant in Wentzville MO with 20K other Colorados awaiting their chips. With no ETA date available from GM, I bailed on the ZR2 and within 2 days got a Jeep Gladiator (Rubicon) off a dealer's lot -- no shortages at Jeep dealerships as they had plenty of Wranglers/Gladiators to choose from. Anyway, talking about the "price points" these trucks are going for nowadays, my Gladiator was $50,263 and the ZR2 was $41K. What a difference compared to prices today! BTW, at just over 3 years of ownership my Jeep's been fine...made the best choice even though it was "by default." And were I needing to buy a new mid-size truck TODAY, I'd go Gladiator (Rubi) again, not a ZR2. And unlike the "better than Jeep" brands -- Ford, Mazda, GM, BMW and Toyota -- no recalls on my Jeep...not even any TSBs. Nice. And, I like the N-A V6 gas engine as well (did not want anything turbo, diesel or even EV). ;-) "Jeep Wave" (It's a Jeep thing) -- BR

I really did (and still do) like most everything about the Rangers. If it was closer to $50k, I would have had a hard choice between the ZR2 and the Raptor. I always wanted an F150 Raptor too.

@@GeorgiaZR2 For me, I the full-size segment was out of the question, so I was restricted to the mid-size segment only. And it had to be a "serious off-road-focused 4x4" right from the factory -- no mods needed. The "serious 4x4" mid-size SUVs were off my Short List because they couldn't tow enough so I HAD to get a truck instead. But FULL size anything was out for several reasons (so no TRX, Power Wagon, Raptor -- whatever). Also, anything full-size wouldn't fit into my apt's small 1- car garage length-wise (but pretty tight width-wise as well). And it didn't need a big engine (V8 or something turbo). Finally, full-size is too big/heavy/wide for the tight trails/mountain passes and switchbacks in many parts of CO. Sure, you can still DO those trails/passes with with a full-size truck, but it's "scarier" (for me!) so no thanks. And a bonus: "Colorado Pin-Striping" is greatly reduced with a skinnier vehicle...all reasons why Wranglers/Gladiators are "skinnier" than their competition (yet being a "box," the cabin feels plenty spacious whereas the others don't). And being skinnier it fits into a standard parking place in the city better so it's less likely to get door-dings from other cars (and the rock-rails/sliders may damage their doors so THAT'S a deterrent). ;-) The only thing I don't like is the MPG numbers...but that goes for the other "off-road-focused/serious 4x4s" as well, so I live with it. -- BR
