Doesn't Logic have a 1073 emulation? Vintage Console EQ.
Could you specify the equipment you used to record those voices? If there is a preamp, compressor, type of microphone and interface. Good job, very clean and enlightening
@@antonielyroblesmarte2126 hey thanks for watching. I recorded on a Neumann U87 ai using an Apollo 8Xp interface and I used a Neve 1073 pre amp emulation in the unison pre amp section of the UAD Console. I didn’t record it through any compression
love this!!!! I have had the whole Brauer method Figured out since he went on Pure Mix and went through it painstakingly in superb detail, and I was never really sure on the vocal, I always felt it was lacking You nailed this, and You called it Bauerize missing the "R" in Brauer....
Really glad the video was able to help. And yeh I realised when editing but was a bit late to redo everything
What a PITA that DAW is.
Don’t know if anyone’s said this, but just a note. It does not matter that you are sending a mono channel to a stereo channel in the box. The signal will still be mono unless something changes from left to right. Meaning you aren’t hearing width. That’s just an amplified signal. Plugins don’t change left and right information unless you use them in dual mono and change them manually yourself. In analog gear this would be the case because there are slight differences in the gear, especially if they are single channel pieces.
Thanks for your input! While it’s true that analog gear naturally introduces stereo width due to slight inconsistencies between left and right channels, UAD plugins can emulate this effect digitally. For example, plugins like the Fairchild or 1176 in stereo mode apply subtle differences to each channel, mimicking the behavior of analog hardware. So, even in a digital setup, the stereoization effect can occur when using UAD plugins designed to replicate analog characteristics. It’s obviously very minor in comparison to using a stereo imaging plugin on a parallel send but it does have an effect.
@@hugohartleysome Uad plugins. The ones that are meant to be stereo effects. The rest null left and right.
@@Soundslikeden agree to disagree
@@hugohartley I'm all for agreeing to disagree however this isn't a matter of opinion but rather of fact. I did a test so that you could see for yourself that they null. Also there is no width that shows up on any meter. While it is possible that UAD could create some difference between the channels to make a mono signal stereo, this test shows that they haven't yet. Maybe in a future update though. th-cam.com/video/zGFfYjKm9w4/w-d-xo.html
your work is amazing. keep going and we will all be behind you.
Nice video! Thank you! Question: what's the point of the 'No Output' buss if you're sending all the comped and pulteced tracks to another vocal summing buss anyway?
@@imremozsik1012 Hey. Great question. It’s necessary to create a no output track first because we only want to hear audio coming out of the Brauerize setup. If I’d skipped the no output, you would be hearing the original vocal tracks and the Brauerize setup in parallel. I could have made the vocal tracks no output but that would mean creating 15 sends instead of 5 as there were 3 vocal tracks being sent through the Brauerize method. Hopefully this answers the question. Happy to clarify if needed
@@hugohartleyyes, thank you!
niceeee man! Thanks for sharing the secret sauce

Use your ears at all times ! The private education system sucks
🤔
Excellent tutorial. Really great pace to the piece. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
Fantastic! Thank you. Looking forward to more from you.
Can you follow this up with a full mix session? I think I understand, I just don’t get how it’ll work within a full song. Good video!
Will be releasing one this week. After much request 👌
So, add all plugins to audio tracks and make each aux plugin again?
Hey there. I’m sorry I don’t understand the question
@@hugohartley Already plugins on Vocal, Pre, and Chorus tracks. Then you made an AUX track for each plugin. So I mean do you need all plugins on 3 vocal tracks too?
@@gomahomeall vocal tracks have normal their own plugins, then the output of all vocal tracks gets sent to the no output track and through the Brauerize method
Yes all tracks need to be processed first. In my case the chorus is way louder than the verse so you need to make sure to lower the volume so it doesn’t overload the compressors in the Brauerize method
@@hugohartley I see. I had never seen it like this. I will try the next cover song. Thanks 🥰
wow cool! thanks
This misses the biggest part, which is using your ears to blend the compressors in different ratios, based on the song. Just randomly setting levels is "mixing with your eyes and not your ears."
Hey. Totally agree that mixing with your eyes is a dreadful error that many engineers fall into. I did explain at 8:31 in the video that this would be the time to start listening. I also discuss which compressors could be boosted depending on the results you need for your track. If you want to hear the full acapella feel free to visit my website www.studio32.live/mixing Click on vocals only metal example
The technique is interesting to experiment with BUT you have missed showing how this technique works and affects the other vocal parts, the one with more aggressiveness and interact within the parts
Hey. The full vocal acapella can be found on my website - www.studio32.live/mixing It’s the vocals only metal example
@@danyavilaoficial if I’m honest, I planned to but the video would have been too long. You are quite right, the chorus vocal is more aggressive and requires some added processing. It’s also in a different register requiring different EQ
@@hugohartley I equalize considering the parts, usually verses contain more low and mid frequencies information
To be honest it sounds worse than when you started. I don’t think the Brauer technique is a good one it kinda sucks.
@@garethde-witt6433 feel free to check out the fully mixed acapella with backing vocals on my website www.studio32.live/mixing It’s the vocals only metal example
Bro 😭
Hey Hugo, thanks for the effort. Positives: Lots of both principles and techniques that make sense in theory, and little bit of A/B comparison midway. Constructively, I feel like it was missing a gain-matched A/B at the end, and also that a practical contextual example could have really brought it home (and still could in a follow-up vid!). Without in-track-context examples of how the parallel processing (dynamic range reduction + harmonic enrichment) and also the blended parallel 76, helps it sit forward/above things that might otherwise mask it... Well, I didn't find it that compelling. So, that might be a great idea for a follow-up vid? (not sure if the rest of this track is available, or if you already had that planned, but hopefully!).
@@marshy_moo thanks for the feedback. I totally agree. Unfortunately the artist wasn’t happy for me to use this instrumental as it’s currently in demo phase. The lack of A-B was an oversight for sure. Definitely need feedback like this as it’s a new channel and would love to improve on each video

Each day the power of creating more parallel sends becomes glaringly obvious to me. Great video no way this is first upload lol
@@Reggi_Sample thanks mate. It’s my first tutorial video. Posted a few cover songs in the past
Stop eating so much bread. What are you, a duck?!
The vocal has phase issues in this video. Also if you're doing a video about the technique, get the name of the engineer right, it Brauer, with an r after the B, not Bower.
@@MKD371 Thanks for the feedback. I realised the pronunciation mistake after the recording but made sure to spell it right at least. Regarding phase, I’m still coming to grips with the screen recording software but I assure you this technique sounds great on my end 👌
Nice work
This was a great tutorial, thank you!
this seems like way too much work and too many aux tracks... why can't you just load up the compressors you enjoy and then mix the levels in properly in a single chain?!?
@@mckinleylust Hey, great question. The reason I use different aux tracks is to have more control over each compressor’s effect on the vocal. When they’re in series, you’re compressing an already-compressed signal, which can make things sound too squashed. In parallel, I can blend the compressors to get a more open, dynamic sound.
It’s not about “way too much work”. Yes, it does look that way , however it does not sound that way.
the idea with this method is to blend the sounds of each compressor, and each compressor is chosen for a specific reason. It they were in a single chain one compressor would be taking some voltage off, then the next would be hitting it different than if it were on another channel and would be taking off more voltage, by the time you get to the 4th compressor you have already taken out all the dynamics
because then all the compressors are in series instead of parralel.
bro you shit blow the fk up of me.. So basically we run all audio throught all eq, compressor in all independent bus track, then adjust their volume like a parallel processing? 😮
thanks for this
Oh my goodness, this has really touched me, brilliant!!
Fantastic song!
