How to play Fist Full of TOWs 3 Introduction
มุมมอง 2.4Kปีที่แล้ว
An introduction into playing FiST Full of TOWs 3. This video runs through the scenario and a brief introduction to the movement phase.
Dumb question. You’re using 3mm units. What scale did you use for buildings. Did you design the remaining terrain to feel like 3mm?
Some interesting ideas here, a question on the first example you showed with the squad jumping and wall and being destroyed, was that not intended to be a group move? Should the rest of the platoon not have also taken their moves with no-fires being recorded amongst the reacting German squads and LMG teams?
Nice idea of removing the suppression by suppressing the enemy squad that caused it. I love Crossfire. The hardest thing about Crossfire is finding other Crossfire players. I’m in the Charleston, SC area. Anyone nearby that wants to play?
I like some of this but I really think that adding a 4 dice MG team to every squad is going to massively change the odds of most situations. The 3 dice stand is already supposed to be representative of a full squad with it's LMGs so while your ideas should largely balance out I think the amount of no fire results will be so few that a lot of potential movement will be lost.
Exactly, I haven’t gotten into IDF yet. But the purpose is to reinforce that you don’t move without suppressing or obscuring first
This was my immediate thought as well. The initiative turn structure is built around platoons having 3 squads rolling 3 dice each, with a crossfire giving 3 chances at success. If you’re going down to team level, allow me to suggest playing the game at that level, with squad leaders for each squad. A crossfire at team level would allow both the rifle section and the mg section to fire together. And if I’m not wrong, the odds of success with 3d6 and 4d6 or very similar to 3x 3d6, keeping the rest of the system in balance. Things to consider.
I like the seperate LMG’s in concept, but giving them HMG capabilities in addition to the regular shooting qualities of the Rifle Squads does seem like it de-balances the game if you don’t also adjust the dice results to accomodate the increased firepower. It seems you now have a single LMG having the ability to destroy an entire squad of infantry (and it’s LMG team in regular Crossfire) in a single reactive fire, which strikes me as being a little too powerful. It appears that few group movements would ever be successful with every enemy squad rolling 7 reactive dice against each moving unit, strategically you’d never risk moving a group against an enemy because the enemy dice are stacked heavily against your probable success. 21 total dice roles from a single enemy platoon firing reactive? The likelihood of a suppression or kill occurring is almost a statistical certainty.
On the top Light table, the bottom row is marked S - what does that represent?
I've yet to properly read the Crossfire rules, but I'd hazard a guess that it's some sort of Scout vehicle - if they exist? Or possibly some kind of Carrier vehicle. I only say this because it seems most things can knock them out.
Soft skinned vehicle, like a half track or jeep. I don’t have it included on the medium and heavy tables due to the assumption that any hit would likely destroy
just what i was waiting for!!!
I've been redesigning crossfire too. I initially had a similar approach to the poster. I did find that in my tests the board got a bit cluttered, perhaps it's a scale issue but I also wanted to incorporate actual unique company organization for each belligerent and more vehicles so it was a necessity to keep clutter down. As a result I tried to make the separation of squads into teams be reflected in an abstract way. The design goal was to make each side unique and so German squads got a 4d6 while and German HMGs got a 5d6 like you said. The HMG teams also must be dismantled before being moved and set-up, taking time. The British rifle squads roll 3d6 but the differentiation was two fold. When rolling for a reaction against LOS, rolls of 6 steal initiative. The British also have a bonus +1 for assaults to reflect the higher mobility of the Bren being brought INTO the assault. The Americans also have their unique traits, each platoon leader had a radio and so can act as an FO. They also still roll 3d6 but the American semi-auto rifles and BAR teams give them a +2 in the assault.
Love the splitting of squad into teams, very realistic. As a former 11B myself it only makes sense. As for the dice for the mg’s I would maybe make heavy mg’s 5 dice to represent more ammo bearers and being tripod mounted.
I agree, that works!
The Vietnam war variant of CF called Incoming! also drops down a level to where MG are based separately and each infantry base is a fire team.
This is awesome, Great game that has great qualities, where are you located ill play and have my rule book already
I’m in Alabama haha, but I’m a moving target
@tabletopwarstories1852 well done with the game I feel like crossfires style of game is overlooked but has great aspects to its style of play I want to implement the style of rules in other games as well
I remember this same technique for dropping airborne in the old rule set of “command decision” it was the first miniature I game played way back in my middle school days in the early 90s. I’m not sure which ruleset originally used to drop airborne in this fashion but it is fun to do.
I like the changes you've made to the rules. The closer attention to real tactics.
Epic, I'd love to see tanks in crossfire
Crossfire is a fun game as far as infantry combat goes. It really does make you think like a company commander and use good tactics. Unfortunately the armor rules leave something to be desired. I played a lot of CF until I found Chain of Command by Too Fat Lardies. If you haven’t played it, I highly recommend it
I’ve made some home spun rules on vehicles for the next video. You’ll have to give me your feedback
@@tabletopwarstories1852 I’d love to see them. That part of the game could definitely use an upgrade.
@@tabletopwarstories1852 Looking forward to it!
I appreciate eth fine work you have done here, we gotta get you in our gaming group!
We’ve played a similar, massive Arnhem game using 6mm miniatures on a 24’ by 6’ table, using ‘All Hell Let Loose’ rules. I love your table!
This is insane. Please make more

great table - looking forward to the continued content.
I'm not sure if you are correct about the way every shots from all units have to declared before any dice rolling. I played a trial game yesterday the same way, but i just looked at the rules again as well as coming to youtube to see how others are doing it. 12.3 Procedure A player may conduct fire with his stands in any order. The player indicates one or more firing stands, identifies the target, and states the type of weapon(s) being fired. The player then resolves the attack(s). The player then declares and resolves the next attack. Note that this allows a player to see the effect of the first attack before he declares the second attack. However, all fire against a given target must be declared before resolving any attack against that target.
Nice set up...looks good. FFT3 is a good system.
👏 Promo SM
Most impressive table, great looking game!!
A nice looking game on a gorgeous and fantastic table, big like!!!
Just started playing FFoT3 a few months ago. Put on a North Africa game between Italians and British during Op Crusader. Good rule set but I need more than one tank for a platoon.
Great videos, and I love the scale and the table! Just as a reminder, armor suffers a -1 ROF when splitting fire for each additional target (13.4.4 ROF Reduction for Multiple Targets)
You're right! Thanks for keeping me honest
Bro what size of table is this??
6 x 8 foot
31st Subscriber. Just found your channel and I am digging it. Also starting to get back into wargaming myself. Great table and miniatures, would love to hear more about them in amongst the battle reports.
Excellent video, extremely clear and easy to understand
Thanks for the video. Where are you getting the ranges for your tanks. In the rule book the T34 has a range of 10 why are you multiplying it by 4?
I am a fan of these rules so Thanks for the intro and other videos.
Definitely makes me want to break out my 6mm WWII and have a game. Are you planning on doing a small scenario?
Really pleasing terrain and comprehensive video. Great stuff!
Thanks for the videos
