The Pretty Stitch
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 เม.ย. 2018
My name is Sonja and I love to crochet. (I also can knit too, but feel more confident with a hook than needles.) I started writing out my own patterns about 10 years when my daughter requested clothing for her American Girl Doll. I really enjoyed designing my own crochet patterns and started branching off into other crochet items besides doll clothing. Since then I have self-published over 100 of my own patterns on Ravelry, Love Crafts, and Etsy. I also have been blessed to have worked with Knit PIcks and I Love Crochet.
I love sharing about how to crochet and wanted to try You Tube. It turns out I really enjoy the filming and editing process. (Although editing is REALLY HARD for technically challenged people like myself.) Hopefully, I will continue to be able to grow my channel The Pretty Stitch in the future.

@@godlovesyou84 thank you!!😊
How do you square up the sides?
@@kathiepaulk3687 when doing this stitch, the sides should be fairly straight. You definitely want to be using all the same yarn weights and watch your tension. Also, if using this stitch for a blanket, you would probably want to have a border, to help neaten up the edges and give a more cohesive look.
Thankyou, the sides just didn’t look straight on the video, but probably because it just wasn’t shown upclose. Love your video
@ they were not the straightest as my yarn weights were slightly different. I was just using some stash yarn to demonstrate the technique. If it was a project, I’d make sure the yarn was all the same weight. It makes a difference!😀
is there a written pattern? if so, i’d love to see it! i struggle with videos sometimes 🩵
Not yet, but I plan to write one up. I hope to have written patterns for most of my video patterns. It is a goal I have for 2025. I will put the link up when it's ready.
I just finished this hat and what FUN this was! I’m making 7 grandkids matching ones.
So glad you are enjoying it!🥰
💜 What a gorgeous stitch design. Love it. Thank you for sharing this. I’m definitely going to try this. 😃👊🏼
Thanks! I love it too! I have some project ideas for this stitch. ☺
This is a great idea. It's just me and my son to cook for at my house, so trimming down my food budget should be doable. One thing we do maybe once every other week is have breakfast for supper. And that's only fried potatoes and scrambled eggs or omelets along with 2 slices of toast each. A cheap snack is popcorn (not the store bought microwave popcorn). A bag of popcorn (to pop on the stove or popper) is fairly cheap and has many servings/bag! I've even had popcorn for lunch occasionally.
@@territn8871 breakfast for dinner sounds yummy! I also pop popcorn from kernels too. With homemade butter and a little salt and it’s great! My dad used to grow popcorn when I was a kid. We just used a pot with some oil and a lid, no need for fancy equipment. The first time my kids saw me do it that way, they were amazed. 😂
WHAT SIZE IS THIS HAT FOR ??
@@Rita-cd9bj fits most adults. One of my friends made one for her husband and just bumped up a hook and used slightly heavier yarn for a larger size.
Very pretty stitch 🤩 I think this is the one I will be using for my sweater scarf. Thanks
Beautiful and. I want One
This is so pretty and creative 😮😊
I’m going to try to make an afghan with this stitch …. I am new to the Tunisian crochet so wish luck…. LOL 😆
@@catherinebrochard7503 Good luck and I bet it will be beautiful.😊❤️
So pretty! Great yarn choice
Thank you! It's Ice Yarns Picasso, not sure the name of the color way. ☺
I love that yarn 😮
Thank you!
Love this stitch for hats.
Very pretty design.
Oh that looks like cables 🎉
I think so too!☺
I’d like to do more Tunisian.
You should! 🥰
Very nice. Love the technique at the end to finish hat.
Thank you! ☺
The whey from cheese making can make real nice bread dough 😉 and poured over plants (if growing veg) helps make them grow more too If using full cream milk and its beyond its bb date its perfect for cheese making
More great tips! Thank you. ☺
Only a pleasure.... we also lost my dad years back so know .... just my mom and i at home now We're also trying to use up what we have without wastage and without having to just keep buying Another thing we do is buy already roasted chickens and shred the meat and store in portions in freezer bags... and when a salmon special comes around we buy bulk, portion it in vacuum sealed bags and freeze until we want... usually the special is when we take the whole fish costs us like R700 but if you work it out per portion comes down to R100 or maybe less per meal for the 2 of us.... gotta change the way you think when buying bulk Your freezer will be your best friend
@@carrilyons5304 Absolutely! Get those deals when they are available and plan ahead. Before my husband passed we got a large freezer which has definitely been a blessing.
Making your own cheese & butter (and subsequently buttermilk) btw butter & buttermilk can freeze well. U might want to buy bulk to stretch over a few weeks... it may splurge as a weekly spend but spread over a few weeks it works out
Great tips! Thank you. 🥰 I have made my own butter before, and I really should do it again. I am fortunate to have a local dairy close by that sells cream much cheaper than a regular grocery store. I'll need to pick some up and get to it!🙂
Youre lucky in that respect to have a dairy so close.... good chance they keep chickens too (or maybe some of the other farms nearby too) and you could get meat and eggs from them much cheaper too... and if you can get honey from a local bee keeper then you are covered for your super expensive grocery items Make your own salad dressing a combo of olive oil, red and/or white wine vinegar, dijon mustard honey or sugar (i prefer honey) salt and pepper and youll have made a most delicious salad dressing.... cant say on the ratios as im still working that out myself from a bottle i bought from a restaurant (had an ingredient list on the label)
A bit loud is an understatement!
So glad I found you. You have a calming voice. 🥰
That is so kind. Thank you!☺
Hi, I also have come over from Litsa @cocoscrochet and have just subscribed. Thanks for the tutorial, it is looking a bit big in the dk yarn i am using, I also went down to a 4mm hook but will wait and see how this goes.
Sonja. TY for your generosity in sharing the patterns and your talent. I’ve bookmarked the patterns. Do you have your email listed somewhere here on your channel. Also, do you have a buy a cup of coffee or something that others have. You are so talented and giving.
Thank you for your kind words. I currently do not have my email listed. I am looking into buy a cup of coffee or something similar and may have that up in the near future.
Hi again Sonja. Last text - I promise. TY for your response. I finished the skirt and it is adorable. Litsa from Coco’s Crochet has other items planned for the rest of the year. This is all perfect timing as my four year old granddaughter moves out of state with her parents on Nee Year’s Day. I crocheted my sadness into the doll skirt - something I truly thought I could or would never do. I even ordered a dolly that looks like her as a model. By the time I see her again, I will hopefully have a wardrobe of doll clothes. You are a lovely, talented, patient, and creative teacher. TY again for giving me the gift of confidence.
@@1windycitygirl Long distance moves are always so hard! That sounds so lovely making a wardrobe for your granddaughter. I'm sure she will love it when she visits.
Hello Sonja. I am here watching your wonderful video because of Litsa from Coco’s Crochet. I also subscribed to your channel today as she will be participating in a doll Clothes CAL and I would like To try to participate as I have a beautiful (gorgeous) four year old granddaughter. It would be amazing if I could feel confident enough to crochet clothes for her Dollies. She loves everything I crochet and I believe she would really like these article of clothing. I am a 66 year old young lady ( but I truly feel 35- especially after retiring) who only started crochet two years ago after my retirement. I have looked diligently for your Etsy shop so that I may support you to buy patterns but I am not sure what it is called. Thank you for your tutorials and I will let you know how I did after I try to crochet this dolly skirt. ❤
Thank you for your kind words and your support. 🥰While I do have an Etsy shop, I am currently not selling on there for various reasons. I may start it up again, still deciding. But I do sell my 18 inch doll patterns on Ravelry. (Not all of my 18 inch doll videos have a written pattern. I hope to do that this year) Ravelry is free to join the site and you can also find many other free and paid patterns on there as well. It is a great resource for crocheters and knitters. Here is a link to all of my 18 inch doll patterns on Ravelry: www.ravelry.com/bundles/patterns-for-american-girl-or-18-inch-dolls
Very Nice stitch. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful pattern! I cannot wait to give it a try, so many ideas I want to make with this pattern. Thanks again, I love your videos. Happy New Year. I hope 2025 brings you all the best! 🫶🎉
Thank you! Happy New Year!☺
Really pretty!
Thank you!☺
Absolutely gorgeous ❤
@@Riviere-qq3bn thank you!😊
Impressive video, The Pretty Stitch. Looking forward to your next upload from you. I smashed the thumbs up button on your content. Keep up the fantastic work! The way you explained the mixing of yarn types was very helpful. Have you considered any other techniques for achieving a similar effect with different yarn blends?
Thank you so much for this pattern!
You're so welcome!☺
Look forward to making this one!
It looks so nice! I'd like to make one :)
Thank you!☺
I REALLY love this stitch pattern. Thank you for sharing! I’m going to make some for my cousins in NY!
Thank you! I love it too! I was going to donate it, but I liked it so much, I'm keeping it. I've already worn it a few times. It's nice and warm. ☺
Love the hat, worst tutorial ever! Fumbling over words, not showing all stitches. The hat looks great, you should redo tutorial correctly.
@@moiraalix7962 your criticism is warranted although a bit harsh. I agree this was not one of my best tutorials. In my defense, I was very new to making tutorials on TH-cam and editing. We all have to start somewhere. I am always trying to learn and grow with this platform. Sometimes I get it right and sometimes I don’t.
That is a pretty stitch 🎉

@@Robin31716 thank you!!😊
U amazing ❤
Beautiful hat I love it
Thank you! ☺
Thanks for sharing. I have tried knit patterns with Tunisian but haven’t been successful. Maybe I just need to make swatches first 😂
I don't think all knit patterns translate well with Tunisian crochet, but there are some that do work. And yes to swatches! ☺I purposely keep "junk" yarn just for swatches and pattern prototypes. I don't want to use the "good" yarn if my idea isn't going to work.
How can I donate to NC
I put some links in the description box. 🥰
Please sent more Bible marker pattern. I need more diffrent patterns. Thanks
I really enjoyed making this, it is beautiful this days I am making but this is very diffrent Thanks for sharing.
