Wightlink's Captain Tom on Victoria of Wight wishes Capt Tom Moore happy 100 Birthday
I saw his show in Atlanta last night. Phenomenal.
He has a great sense of humor.
As a young high school kid in Weat Memphis Arkansas back in the early 70’s we crossed the Mississippi River often to see amazing concerts in Memphis. We went to Ricks Journey to the Centre of the Earth show (I was a Yes Freak!) After the show we went to the Holiday Inn Rivermont where all the bands stayed and I was privileged to see and meet Rick after the show and we shared Heineken beers. What a down to earth friendly man.
He tells a story how he needed £15 to pay his rent, he met a member of T.Rex I think it was in Carnaby Street, and mentioned it. They mentioned it to Marc Bolan, so contact was made for Rick to play piano on Get It On, when he saw what he had to play he said to Marc you could play that, and Marc said you want £15 for your rent don't you.
This great man. What is there to say? Unique, genius, humble, a rare soul.
How much did his genius shape Bowie’s songs, he probably arranged them and suggested chords? Watch the Get Back video of George Harrison arranging Ringo Starr’s Octopus’s Garden to see what I’m meaning, presumably not as much as George did with Ringo but he probably should have had song writing credits.
Rick, what has happened to you? Not so long ago I saw you and the lads in an ARW bit...and you SHOULD get an OBE.
🎶❤️🎶
Always been a huge fan of Rick. Exceptional musician, wonderful human being. Hope the arthritis stays at a low level and doesn't stop him playing. Bit worried about the tic on his right cheek.......
Never knew that it was Rick Wakeman playing the piano on Morning has broken. Superbly played.
I live in middle America; why is this recommended to mr
God Bless you Rick.
Like a fool, based on issues where I lived (a hotel turned SRO full of trash & thieves in Staffing from a fake Charity) I missed a few chances to meet Rick up close in The Castro Theater in SF a few years in a row on his Tours. Environment affects Life. 🤔
Met him at a XM private concert in 02. Amazing man and musician
Rick has been part of my Life for nearly 50yrs.. I bought the six wife's the day it was released. And never looked back. And never wanted to. God bless you Rick thanks for everything
Sir rick wakeman long over due. Considering what and who he played with.
I am a piano player and early Yes fan. I still have and play from Yesterdays, Going for the One, Yes Complete Deluxe Edition piano books I have had since the 70’s 😍 On my morning walks I like to listen to Rick just playing keyboards, no lyrics even when he’s playing a song with Lyrics. Thank you Rick for a lifetime of being my piano teacher, and I am in AWE of your SKILLS ( Humor too) 😍
Whats with the facial tic when he speaks? Is that new?
First time I've seen that. His health has deteriorated but he seems happy as he can still play well!
Great to hear rumours of Rick's demise have been greatly exaggerated, still a living legend. Saw him in the 70's in Perth Australia, still remember it to this day.
I love listening to Rick, always seems totally down to earth. I'm not particularly a fan of Yes, but most of the stuff of theirs that I do like features Rick. I know the word legend is used a bit too much to describe people these days, but this guy is a true music legend imo, his career speaks for itself.
Good to see him still out and making an impact.
Never knew Rick's dad played for Ted Heath, FABULOUS band!! 😊
Rick is a long-lived and great keyboard hero of the Anthropocene era. He’s pioneered many new ways with synthesisers. His humour and intelligence are lovely too.
My dad played drums live on the radio back in the 50s in the big bands. Always been a fan of Rick, who was a big inspiration growing up. I don't blame him not doing Celebrity. It's always people desperate to get recognised or to kickstart their careers. Rick doesn't need to do it.
The fact that I got to experience his playing live during the beginning of the Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe tour, then again during the Union tour was just beyond amazing! But being able to see him THREE times solo, and twice with Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman was just major icing on the cake!!! Probably one of the most amazing musicians I've even seen live, and realizing that I've heard his playing WAY before I even knew who he was (Edison Lighthouse & Cat Stevens) proves that he's just THERE!!! GOD BLESS RICK! Thanks for the music!!!!
OMG my dad just passed and he was a huge fan and he never knew Ricks family was from his hometown Portsmouth, how i wish he had been alive to see this interview :-(
Maybe it's the lighting. He doesn't look well.
My favorite is "No Earthly Connection" which is HIGHLY underrated IMO.
I saw him using a mobile phone in his jag on the M4 in the 1980s - before it was fashionable. At subsequent concerts I reveled in his guilty secret.
Absolutely agree, if anyone deserves a knighthood it's Rick. Just about every notable album in the British song book has his touch. Not only a master musician, but a wonderful person, how can there not be a pressure group to demand for his knighthood. If there isn't one already, maybe we should start one.
I love 'White Rock' especially 'Searching for Gold'
Smashing bloke. He was in Panto at my local theatre (Hall for Cornwall) many years ago and my brother was one of the volunteer stewards. After the last performance, he laid on a big bash for everyone and paid for the lot.
Damn. Missed that Alan. I saw him down in Hayle 20 years ago with his son playing as well.
Love Rick and always have done. Literally been with me nearly all of my life. First time I saw him was at Preston Guildhall 1976 No Earthly Connection tour. And many times since
I always loved this mans music, so original. I still remember seeing Journey to the Center of the Earth on the In Concert tv show in the mid '70's
Bless this man! Please, what causes the facial spasm/tick?
Dunno... Looks like RW has developed Tourette's tics??
He has actually had that for a long time, if you check out old videos of him you can see it when he speaks, but now he does it much more and it’s definitely more pronounced. Met him once by the HMS Belfast in London with his wife Nina, I just called out to him as he was getting in his Rolls Royce and to my surprise he got out of the car and came over, spent about 10 minutes just talking to him, I will never forget that, what a wonderful person.
@@timcoakley5498 Thank you, cool story!
Too much 1970's.....
His book is hilarious! “Grumpy Old Rock Star”
Rick, my prog hero since 1974. Love you man!
What a great musician and fine human being.
What a treasure Rick is.
I asked him for an autograph which he provided, It was very squigley and I said that looks a bit Roger Deanish. He grabbed it off me, looked at it, and said "Oh,yeah!" Brilliant.
Should be a Sir - it’s well well overdue..
Maybe he was offered it and said: “no thanks”. Many intelligent people do.
@@TheExtremenarcissist Yea, he's probably just not evil enough
Had the pleasure of meeting Rick twice. A lovely man who always has time for his fans. His wealth of experiences, his humor and connections to so many musicians in the world is incredible. What a legend. Let's have a knighthood for Rick!
He has created some fabulous music for fans , but interesting, health wise , to see what a piano can do to a man ,,, it really is a beast ... i remember a quote from Oscar peterson ,,,, he was patting a piano and he said " you cant tame this thing !"
Rick always honest, interesting and all-round nice guy...he's a true old school legend....
I'm a guitar player and Yes fan of many decades. I bought all of Rick's albums and love them all.
What a beautiful human being and musician. He should be knighted.
Can we start a petition?
Many freemasons shall be knighted or otherwise praised eventually. Reasons are not public really.
@@edvinlaine Are Yes masons?
100% agree
@@PaulFormentos Rick is
Good news, Rick's losing weight. Bad news, Rick's cut his hair!
I thought he was dead 😮
He's spending the year dead for tax purposes...😉
Currently 75.
Always lovely to hear Rick talking. Never boring :)
Time is catching up with him. The last great living prog keyboardist.
