Sailing Soraya
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 24 มิ.ย. 2021
Proof you can have a big adventure on a little boat!
Ahoy there! We are a family of three, who have long dreamed of slipping the lines for an extended sailing adventure. We have taken to the high seas to explore the Australian Queensland Coast.
We intend to take “Soraya”, our 30 foot, Sparkman and Stephens designed sloop sailboat, along the Great Barrier Reef. We decided to film this adventure so we can look back on it together one day.
If you (like us) want to find out what happens when you step away from your comfort zone, seize the day, and leave plans to the winds.. we welcome you aboard to join us on the adventure.

Hi, just found your site and have enjoyed the ones we’ve watched so far. Lill is particularly interested in your comments about the Omnia oven so we watched a couple of TH-camrs where they were demonstrating the oven and it seemed pretty tricky with them burning the base of cupcakes and bread. We were hoping we could contact you to discuss it a bit further. Rod & Lillian (Sapphire of London)
Please contact me if you are ever considering selling Soraya. It’s my dream yacht and my daughter’s name is Soraya.
It certainly is a big little boat , will u be sailing this summer 2024 .
The bar was calm. have crossedit countles times. Bit of a swell but that is normal. Should not have had any concerns crossing.
Who made your boat? We have a S & S 30' boat called a Tartan 30, and we really like it. Quite similar to yours, but a bit older (1978). BTW, Dorades were invented by S&S, and were put on their fancy race boat Dorade: www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorade_(yacht)&ved=2ahUKEwjqmej5w5KGAxUQMVkFHYTBA34QFnoECCsQAQ&usg=AOvVaw3KWwZa1fnuULo7e78wTXRe
Hey crew i am currently looking at an s&s Swarbrick build. Could you tell me what the deck build is....ie. composite balsa, ply or foam core? Also your overall draught from waterline, helps with the decision. Will be up your way if things work out
Fav animal ❤❤❤
So beautiful up there ❤ we have the boat, and got our 40ft container yesterday to pack up the farm and house. We wanted to be up there like yesterday lol but we will make it there 😊❤
All the hard work will be worth - you will be living your dream before you know it :)
We've been thinking of heading to tincan bay for a bit before Fraser and Airlie ❤ we've Subscribed might see Yas up north soon 🥰
Tin Can Bay is great, we have just recently been talking about sailing Soraya that way actually. We are back on the hamster wheel of living on land these day’s… planning the next adventure… the sailing life can quickly become an additive! Hope you enjoy every moment as much as we have ❤️
Great video 👍🏼 Curiosity, did you guys get charged $25 to go to the resort on Long Island?
Thanks Heidi! No we didn’t, but when we were there they were in a transition phase for becoming an adult only resort.. so it may have changed since.
Great to c u back cheers
Thank you Barney Scott :)
As soon as I saw you had released another video, I started smiling. I'm really hoping you start sailing and making more videos again. Thanks for another wonderful family sailing video. They are great. 🙂
Wow what a lovely thing to read. Thank you so much ❤️ it really made our hearts smile. Our time on Soraya definitely changed perspective for our family’s life.. they say nothing in life is certain, but I am certain we well be back on the water again.. thanks Lawrence! 😍
Great to see another video guys.
Thanks so much for watching and the lovely comment Kenny ❤️
Beautiful place, enjoyed the video.
Thanks Frank! Whitsundays are definitely very special in our eyes ❤️
Hi guys. Great vid and an awesome boat. Tell me, did she once have a red hull as I think I made an offer on her back in 2008? The interior and rose sink are unforgettable (and I had my reservations as you did) Obviously an unsuccessful offer!
Hi Rick, thanks for the message! Soraya had a red stripe at one stage, but but not a red hull. I understand a boat builder in QLD purchased the moulds around the late 90’s/ 2000’s and made a handful (I know of at least 3) of these little gems - all crafted with the same interior :) . Hope you were successful and found your dream boat in the end!
Came across your YT channel while exploring yachts for cruising between Brisbane and the Whitsundays. My daughter is also called Soraya, so you piqued my interest. 👍
Hi! Thanks so much for watching. Your daughter is very lucky, Soraya is such a beautiful name, we love it 😍 Good luck with your yacht search.. what an great adventure you have planned!
Welcome back!
so cool dolphins 🐬
They really were!
Good to see you guys again….keep up the good work….
Thanks so much for the compliment Drew. I know we have been a bit slow in posting new videos.. thanks for sticking with us! :)
Great video guys
Thanks Salty Sings! We really enjoy following your continuing adventures! Hope to meet up again someday down the track!
Great video guys what a beautiful boat Cheers .
Thanks so much for watching Gerard! Obviously we are biased, but while Soraya may be small, we think she is a Beauty too :)
Great video guys! Vinni Tells me he wants to sail with Aoife again :)
Thanks guys! Tell Vinni we would all love that! Hope you are all well ❤️
Did you guys stay at the Coral sea marina?
Hi Cal, yes on this occasion we did, we have stayed there a couple of times. We have also anchored just outside too for short provisioning visits :)
Absolutely wonderful to see your family and videos again. Hope we get to see lots more. Hope the family are all well and having a great time.
Thanks so much Lawrence for the lovely comment… and there is definitely more to come! ❤️
Very good to watch you again. Great coral footage! Wonderful colours!
Thanks so much Andrew. When we woke up to a glass off and a sunny day we took advantage to enjoy of every minute out there - it was so colourful :)
Good to see you guys are back, thanks for sharing
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
Where’s the new videos, love your content 👌🏽🌴
Sorry Jake, we had a little hiatus from TH-cam at the end of last year. I just posted a new video up this morning if you would like to check it out. Thanks so much for the really nice comment!
Epic legends, Mitcho sent me here - Slim, nice work !
Haha thanks guys… your adventures were a source of both entertainment and inspiration for our little family to get out on the water ourselves. Hope you are having a blast out there.. I believe Mitcho may be hot on your heels in the coming months too :)
Hi guys, haven’t heard from you for a while…hope you’re all well and looking forward to your next episode…..cheers drew…
Hi Drew, sorry I fell a little behind with editing our footage.. I do hope to post another one soon. Thanks so much for following the adventure ❤️
Hi Shane, My wife and I enjoy your channel….we have a North shore 33 here on the Gippsland lakes and really hoping that we can sail to Cairns in the next few years…..keep up the good work and have fun with your great family…..cheers drew…
Hi Tammy & Shane,…. Your yacht is so well set up, you have given me ideas for mine….can’t wait to go……cheers 👍
Well guys that tour of the boat is sensational the equipment is top notch. The sailing boats i have had in not prepared for long long term like you have got . no wonder you are haviningh such a wonderful time. love the rose coloured sink sink cheers Kevin Ridgway
Thanks Kevin… we are very fond of our little boat.. (and I don’t mind the sink either 😍)
Leads are hard to spot on Frazer, also be careful of the rocks
Crystal blue waters. Can you cruise all year around there?
Sorry for the delayed response guys- we had a break from TH-cam. We sailed Soraya south in time for the cyclone season- but plenty of others choose to stay. It is possible to cruise there all year around. We have actually chartered a yacht there during the cyclone season in the past and it was awesome 😎
Hi Shane, I met you guys at Double Island Point we shared a few waves there, and you loaned me a wetsuit to which i was very appreciative of, It was nice to meet you and ya beautiful family i hope ya doin well, I have sailed Altair to Tasmania now hangin here for the summer , drop us a line sometime. Cheers Paul
Hi Paul, sorry we took a break from TH-cam! Of course we remember- some very nice waves were shared! We know a few people that headed to Tassie for the summer- it’s made us consider doing it ourselves. Hope you’re enjoying every second!
Awesome. Very informative. I’m hoping to sail my 28ft Compass up there from Sydney next April/May.
Thanks B Role Sailor! You will love it! Best thing we have ever done!
What a lot of fun. Thanks guys
Thanks Dreamtime Crew!
PS. Ive just been watching one of your recent videos (Season 2, ep54). Thanks for sharing the fishing tips! Really interesting info about using an anchor buoy too!
If you haven't done you haven't lived😉
Forgot to tell you, very strong yacht to🙋♂️
Nice story.former S&S and other owner from perth WA
Thanks Peter! This is our first S&S and we do love her.. you can probably see our interior is a little different.. it polarises opinion :)… it has grown on me though :)
@@sailingsoraya My wife and I are looking for a 30ft (ish) size boat, this certainly is an option.
Ahh yep Solaway can be fun but looked pretty good So i gather for family you have bareboated a Yatch ? Was in the Whitsundays in May on a 40Lagoon Bareboat 15days was bliss th-cam.com/video/jYCytqBxsCA/w-d-xo.html
Hi Mal! A bareboat would have been great too, but our reunion wasn’t planned far enough in advance for that :) I just watched your video. Looks like you had great conditions and visited some awesome spots! I didn’t know there was a lookout at Langford!.. something for next time, thanks for sharing :)
Great video guys.
Thanks very much Will :)
You want to know what 'la nina' is like, come to the southern part of Australia, Victoria and Tasmania... one low after another.
Hi Artys, we are originally from WA, so we do know how lucky we really are :)
@@sailingsoraya my wife and I are planning to do something similar to the cruising your doing now. Can't wait. Also, great footage and channel. Thanks for posting
Thanks Artys, it definitely the best thing we have ever done.. very excited to hear you are about to embark on a similar adventure. Hope you post some videos so we can follow too! ❤️
And the adventure continues. Great stuff team.
Thanks so much for the support guys! Hope you are having a great time wherever you are right now :)
@@sailingsoraya we've just reached the Whitsundays on our way to Townsville to sit out the Cyclone Season. Where are you guys?
Awesome Dreamtime, I’ve sent you a FB message :)
@@sailingsoraya and we've replied. Cheers!
Great video guys!
Hi Hamster Brian! Thanks very much for watching!
Great boat! They don't make them no more unfortunately
Thanks Yoram.. She was certainly made by someone who loved their craft and we are quite proud to have her :)
Great video of your adventures with Soraya. The scenery there is simply beautiful, and it must be lovely to be enjoying the nice temperatures now (soon to be minus 20's here in Canada). I'm looking forward to adventures in a new to us 30 footer next year, and it was handy seeing how you manage all of your limited storage space. Looking forward to watching your adventures!
Thanks Jon! I must admit it is a pretty nice time of year to be in Queensland right now…I can’t imagine minus 20! It sounds like you have an exciting adventure ahead though! I have no doubt sailing in your part of the world has some absolutely incredible scenery to explore. Wish you all the best!
Love love love your boat! 💗
Hi Sam and Rene, thanks so much. We just found your TH-cam channel and are really enjoying it. Fair winds!
@@sailingsoraya thank you our sailboat is 31ft and no where near the space yours at 30ft has! What an incredible design, we fell off our seats when we heard 700 Litres of water!!! What?? Where???
Great video guys, have been waiting for a tour. Aoife is growing up so fast. Cant believe how much storage you have inside
Thanks Tracie! Yes Aoife is certainly growing up fast..for better or worse she is becoming more and more interested in helping us sail Soraya these days too! :) Thanks for watching ox
Nice little boat! That lounge area looks groovy :)
Thanks Cal! It appears to have divided opinions.. :) but it's been a great topic of conversation and source of some fun jokes along the way.
Good luck guys, I'll be following along for the adventure
Thanks very much for joining us Graeme!
I just came across your video for the first time, loved the tour and I must say what an outstanding job fitting a 30" into a palace job well done. Enough for now and looking forward to more adventures on sailing Soraya and her crew of three!
Hi Ralph, that's quite a compliment! Thanks very much for your message and following the adventure with us :)
