Mondays - A Porsche Short Film ( Canon R6 Mark II )
So... I shot a short film recently. This is the teaser. The hero shots were mainly on the Canon R6 Mark II, but the footage was a mix of different cameras. Enjoy!

Cheap vs Expensive Earbuds - Can Anyone Tell The Difference?!?! AirPods 3 Review
Hello i use 10$ earphones wired and why they sound loud enough and today i bought 100$ sony c700 and they are the same with sound loudness i should know this before i would never buy them im dissapointed it was better to get vig headset sony 😢
Can I have your number
Hello
+1.7/2 stop?
Nice video! I've noticed I get much cleaner results in the shadows if I overexpose about 1 to 1.5 stops then bring it down in post. So much less noise in the shadows. That means exposing the skin at about 70%. The mid tones also seem to look better this way.
Thanks for the input. Definitely the higher end of 55-60% ire is what I use for clog3. Any higher I find that I risk the highlights along the edges of the skin when I begin to pull the exposure out in post, especially if there is any hard light. As for the light meter, I use it only as a basic guideline. If you ever have a monitor that has false color, that’s the absolute best imo 👌
Dumb question, I'm new to CLog....how do you overexpose one full stop if your F stop is open all the way??
@@natalietucker8280 not a dumb question at all. You have a choice once your f stop / aperture is opened to the max, increase the light of what you are exposing or increase your iso (while it is not ideal, a lot of times it is necessary for the proper exposure)
So I film weddings often in low light. I have zero control of the lighting of what I'm filming here. How do I overexpose one stop if im open all the way and want to stay at iso 800? @@CamerasandTech
Super helpful video! The R6 Mark II, however, oversamples 6k to 4k instead of downsampling. This lessens data loss and results in a significantly sharper image. Keep up the great work!
Thank you sir. I suppose I got my terminology mixed up. I sort of felt like those 2 phrases meant the same thing. I mix my R6 M2 footage with super sharp 6k Red footage and it blends well.
very well done. simple. clear. concise. greatly appreciated.
No problem. I’m glad I could help.
Nice shots and crispness. What lenses were used here?
I used the Canon RF 24-70, 15-35
Man my r7 shoots in h.264 ……it won’t open and when I convert it to h.265 it loses details and still stutters in davinci……what do I even do……..cant grade if I don’t even have the footage
What type of computer are you using?
hi can I ask you a question: in final cut in the tab info - color profile I have : (2-2-2) and not as you show: Canon Log 3/ cinema Gamut. Can you help me?
I'm a bit confused by your question. Are you referring to Final Cut's built in LUTs or the color editing? The LUTs for Canon Log 1, 2 & 3 should automatically be available to you. If you have trouble seeing it, maybe scroll to the bottom and use "Extended".
i have this great camera ! what's for you the best lenses for the R7 ? did u tried a speedbooster ?
I normally use my FF lenses on this camera. The RF 15-35, 24-70, 70-200. I would personally use primes more on this camera, as I feel like the APSC sensor likes to have a bit more light. As for the speedbooster, I have it but it is permanently attached to my c70.
This is great. After 9 years of photographing , I have decided to try video. So when you say shooy Native ISO 800. Do you mean start with that ISO then adjust your settings or is it ok to shoot in with a lowet ISO. Or does that mean try not to push it to above 800 when shooting log3? Thanks for the help.
Good question. The native iso gives you the best image as far as dynamic range. If you go above or below, you will slowly lose a little DR. Your other settings should stay put and you can use ND filters to adjust your exposure. When you’re in a pinch and don’t have filters, changing your iso won’t ruin the image but you will lose a bit of quality.
Thank you. Video is a different world but it is interesting. Thanks for your tips.@@CamerasandTech

Thank you. That was my first time experimenting with that color palette.
@@CamerasandTech nice. I have a long way to go with my new R5C. I can color grade photos no problem, but c-log 3 is so different
@@nachoseventen Yes, I found coloring significantly harder on log footage versus raw photography. I would say, start off conservatively until you get your bearing. The great colors that already exist with canon log does the heavy lifting. It is so rewarding when you can nail a look. I always have to keep in mind that no matter what I want the final product to look like, I have to expose correctly first or else the video won't hold up. Photos feel more pliable and forgiving.

I've had an R5 for a little while now and have had some good results in CLOG3, recently I shot in a dark environment with brighter highlights and high contrast (dark studio with a couple of lights). All seemed exposed well in-camera and I was happy with the way it all looked on the LCD until I looked at the footage later. It's muddy, too dark, and has lots of video noise. I later learned I should have shot at 400 ISO instead of the native 800 ISO and then exposed it higher. Uhg....I love the R5, but I find myself struggling with video noise and it seems unpredictable in anything other than daylight. At least, in my experience.
The struggle with dark scenes and log footage is a never ending struggle on all platforms. Never forget there is no shame in shooting in standard profile. I have also had a lot of success pushing clog3 to up to 3200 iso and denoising in post. The zebras come in really handy here, more so for skin tones than highlights.
Love the shirt 🔥
Letsss go!
Thanks for the great video! I'm a newbie and shot in Clog 3 on the Canon EOS R7. I'm having importing issues and can't find a solution to why all videos are not successfully imported. (NOTE: I try importing using a USB C directly from my camera to my Macbook Pro M1) Is it the editing software that isn't supported? All I have is iMovie. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!
I honestly have never transferred via usb c only. That being said, I bet there’s a communication issue with the canon software and Apple software. I bet there is a canon app that allows you to upload them. My solution would be to pull that sd card out and stick it into your Mac. Easiest way to do it.
@@CamerasandTech Bro thanks for the response! I will definitely try out. Thanks so much! Subbed 💯

The greatest of all time 🇧🇷
How can I record without the AF jumping around? Pretty much record like iphones do everything in focus.
I’ve got an easy solution for you. Set your apertures above f5 or f6. The higher the apertures the more is in focus! Remember to change your shutter so that the shutter speed doesn’t get too low and you get blurry images. I’d say keep it above 1/60 to be safe.
@@CamerasandTech if I use tripod and plan to leave it standing for 45mins to 1hr at church, should I use 1/48 at 24fps?
@@royaltykidstv yes, if you are trying to make it look like a movie. broadcast TV is 30fps 1/60 shutter.
@@CamerasandTech thank you
Can you show us how you dual record edit please? Like what are the steps from recording to importing to editing to have two angles. How is it that you can jump from camera A to camera B while editing?
This is kind of a complicated question to answer. I don’t think I can answer this all in a comment. Maybe look up multicam editing on your specific editing program.
Great info here! Good job man!
Thanks man
Thanks. I had been struggling to color clog 3 from my R7. Got the right lut now.
I’ve been struggling a little with the R7, remember to light your scenes well or you might get some ugly noise.

Great comparison and review. As a mostly photo shooter, it seems like its not worth upgrading from the r6 to the mk2. Thanks for a great video!!
I would agree. The photo quality seems almost indistinguishable to me. It’s in the video realm that needed an upgrade. Thanks for watching
@CamerasandTech Thanks for the truthful reply abd opinion. How about for photography the r5 or r5 mk2 to be? Worth the upgrade or just cherish and enjoy whats working for me. Hmmm. First world problems@CamerasandTech
@RWAquariumPages I have not gotten my hands on an r5 for photography but it is Canon’s flagship so you should expect the best photos. I feel like digital photography hit a wall recently. Pretty much every new camera is good. If you need those extra megapixels or require to highest possible quality on the market I’d say go for the new R5, but most of the time our R6’s will be good for many many years.
I think you are going down the wrong road here. Instead of encouraging a person to get a good eye, you are just saying, "do these steps". The problem here is different lighting, exposure gives a different starting point, and the LUTs don't help you. The best way to learn is to put a colour card in the picture, then when you colour grade the footage you match the colours with the card you had in the picture by looking at the card next to your computer, then match them by adjusting the colour sliders. This method trains your eyes. And you colour match is perfect as it matchs the same card. Then if you want to be artistic, change from there. Playing with a LUT to correct is a fools game, yes use it to get some base colour to darken it, but then use your eyes. The only real tool is scopes as it tells you when the whites are blown out or the colours are. Of course, try not to blow too much out. This is also related to good in camera exposure.
I don’t necessarily disagree with you. But not everyone is dedicated to cinematography the way you assume they are. Some people want a way to get a good useable image without dedicating their life to color correction and color grading. So many of the audience are gamers, entrepreneurs and storytellers that just want to get started. You shouldn’t turn your nose up at people who take a different path. I took the long road and I’m okay with sharing shortcuts who don’t want to learn nodes, color contrast, and color science the way I do. Once they have the answer they can decide, not us, whether they would rather pursue the reasons behind what they just did.
@CamerasandTech that is what picture profile is for, you don't need to film log. You only shot log to get more dynamic range and creative control. Otherwise why shoot log?
Dynamic range, 10 bit color, editablity.
How about if using clog2 settings ? When is it best to use clog3 and when is it best to use clog3?
Good question. If given the choice I would almost always use clog2. The situations that I would opt for clog3 are : if the B camera I’m trying to match only has clog3 (most mirrorless canons use cl3) or if the scene is super dark I’d think about using clog3 to reduce the noise (but even in this situation I’d probably just go with standard profile or continue on with the noise in clog2)
do you have c70 and r6 mark ii?@@CamerasandTech
@@creativegreatsvisuals yes, I do
@@CamerasandTech does canon r6 mark ii match up with c70 in clog 3 in post easy ?
please can i get a one on one conversation,,,i am really struggling with the log3 noise.... i do not know what to do and i got the r8 solely to shoot really clean videos and color grade on them but it really breaks my heart not to have found a solution as i am thinking of selling at a losss. i shoot proposals and wedding videos and these have to happen after dark with ambient lights ordinarily id shoot is0 800 to 1000 on my eosr and be good! but i dont just get it and i am already frustrated
I can’t speak on the r8 directly but, the r7 is very light hungry. If you’re slightly underexposed it will give you tons of noise. It’s always been better to work with standard profile or overexpose a bit to get a cleaner image. In your situation maybe a faster prime lens to let in some more light if your iso and shutter are already locked in.
@@CamerasandTech this solves my problem... I think it does like lots of light and a 1.4 sigma might do the trick!
@@WilliemBills In your case I'd turn on the zebras to protect your highlights and expose as high as you can until it get close to clipping. Should give you the best possible result.
@@CamerasandTech thank you 🙏
Dude, love the video! Just got me the R3 and found your channel about the exposing c-log3. Great work. Keep up! New sub.
Thank you 🙏 Working on some more as we speak.
Do these settings change when shooting at higher fps? If I want to shoot at 120 fps on a music video for example, how does this differ and what are the important things to keep in mind when shooting clog3 at those fast frame rates?
Yeah so because your shutter should always be double your fps, your shutter for 120p would be 1/240. That makes for a pretty dark image. You can either pump up your iso or increase your lights to compensate. A lot of what pros don’t tell you is that you can play with the shutter a little and people won’t notice all the time. I wouldn’t go too low on the shutter though, you’ll get that drunk motion effect.
Thank you so much! Also wondering, you say to use 85 IRE for highlights but on skin set to 55? Just wanted to make I'm understanding correctly that you're saying to change that specific setting to have zebras focus on your skin vs the highlights right? I'm shooting something where the highlights will mostly be on the skin (as we're doing a paparazzi lighting set up on the subject) so I'm not sure which IRE to be using for this. Thanks again! :)
@@HelloMyNameIsVB yes, that's correct. 50-60 is where I like to keep my skin tone for that perfect exposure. When you start to apply the your color correction, you'll see those perfect orange skin tones pop. 85-90 is the safe limit for highlights, sometimes highlights have to be blown out for artistic reasons or because you have no choice.
Why not use shutter angle feature on the c70? Or are u using another camera
@@creativegreatsvisuals I just felt like most people would be using an R6 or R5. I haven't taken my c70 off of shutter angle ever 🙃
you saved me so much time.... thank you for this video
It makes me happy to know that you found the info useful. Lmk what else you would like to learn.
Thanks for the video. I see I get a lot of noise when I shoot on clog3. Which camera are you using for this video? I can see a lot of noise on the wall behind you. Was it shot with the R6 in clog3 with ISO 800? Your face looks very clean though so I'm not sure if it's normal to get so much noise in the shadows.
Hey! I shot this with the R6 in Clog3. Any log is always susceptible to noise if you under expose. ISO 800 leave you vulnerable if you don’t have sufficient light. I personally don’t mind a little noise, sometimes I prefer it. If I wanted to get rid of it I’d just find a way to light those areas a little more or crush the blacks a little more and use noise reduction in post. Super easy fixes.
Good visuals and story
Thank you 🙏

My wife walked in to me watching your video and this is how the conversation went: Her: "how long do you want to spend setting up your camera?" Me: "I'm learning about log footage" Her: "Do you want to log me?" It was at this point I added your video to "watch later".
