Kyle's maybe electrical emporium

Hello it is me your friendly neighborhood idiot who likes to make some stuff in his free time. This channel exists to document such stuff... subscribe or don't I'm not your dad
i built a combat robot. in fact i build combat robots now, i guess.
I may be an electrical engineer, but for some reason that didn't sway me away from what is essentially the wildest mechanical engineering challenge. Neither did some strange mishaps, which could be interpreted as either me being too stupid for this sport or some sort of divine intervention.

Making an Album Tier List But Not
มุมมอง 1313 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, Kyle encounters his mortal enemy: type-unsafe programming languages because he cannot shake the question of "which album is best album" from his mind. Some of these may be hot takes, although the tiers are only relative. Since these are all albums I like, I find myself being like "what? D tier? that's dumb" but then I look at A and S. SOME COOL THINGS TO LOOK AT: Tom Scott does s...

Playing Modern PC Games With A Retro Controller - The Right, The Wrong Way, And The Wronger Way
มุมมอง 1803 ปีที่แล้ว
I can go on for hours on why I love Celeste, but when you have analog sticks moving Madeline around feels like driving a Mazda Miata but the power steering system is doing an Exxon Valdez, so there is a massive dead zone that ruins the beautifully tight handling it was designed with. While I can't fix a bad power steering system, I can fix a bad controller setup, so that's what I shall do. LIBR...

cool
Hey Kyle, would you be able to look at the info through my page, so we can discuss further.
Can I ask where these competitions are? I’d love to join!
This is so GOOD!!
Oh my god it's genuinely the real PCBway

I think most combat robots are too good. I think a junkyard war style combat robot thing would be fun. Two teams are given a weekend to build each of their robots out of the scraps provided or something.
i dearly enjoy the airplane transitions during the battle showcases
The action movie fx airplane is a perfect screenwipe tbh
This might be one of the greatest videos I've ever seen, for a variety of reasons, not the least of which are combat robots. I'm adding this lifestyle to my life ...now.
Next thing you know you'll be out $3k on an NHRL 30lb robot after fighting emulsifier
Man I’ve been trying to get my school to set up a combat robotics team for a couple years, you guys are so lucky

If I don't see a Wiimote control scheme within the NHRL in the next year I riot

My laptop dies once the same way 2:51
I have a bunch of usb cables that I use for the esp32 where I litterly cut the 5v line, that way it can never happen. I've heard of a bunch of people destroying ports but I have to say that I have never heard of frying an entire PC before Hopefully the PC was not too nice!
That's an interesting approach... and no it wasn't a particularly high end laptop but it was the one i used for school so...
Well that's annoying... I don't think you said it in the video bit were you able to recover your data?
Yea the SSD was fine. It, along with all of my data, currently lives in the replacement laptop
Glad to hear it! Anyways thanks for the video, it was great!
Loved the video!
reminds me of diodes - you can shine light on them and they start producing a small amount of voltage
That is pretty much exactly the operating mechanism of laser fault injection
Wish this video wasn't so filled with so much zoomer flashy loud crap
The second half of the video isn't that bad tho
Macaroni with the chicken strips ayo the pizza here whats 9+10
amazing content
3:55 don't forget to ahhhh combine them!!!
Iirc the merge scope of sone early feature was out of wack so one of the uprights was a separate body from the rest of the chassis. At the time I had no idea merge scope was a thing so I just added that feature there to fix it.
Shout out to that FUCKING SICK lego Audi Quattro on your desk!
That's actually my dresser lol
this video is incredible. youtube recommendations rare W keep up the solid work man, you're very entertaining and i'm lookin forward more goofy aah engineering content
I regret to inform you i have given up on solid work in order to become a disciple of on shape
I've never seen a SNES fight robots before.
I've thought of it as looking like a wii personally, which btw was completely accidental
Man this was a good video, especially given how new your channel is! Keep it up man. Looking forward to a new video!
I don't understand any of this, the algortihm advises I am a nerd so recommended this, the editing and humour is goddam awesome!
Hah nerd!
Thumbnail looked like dankpods so I clicked it. No regrets
As a massive dankpods fan i didn't realize what i did with the thumbnail until a few hours after i uploaded

You put waayyy too much time and effort into editing this video to only have 1.06K subscribers, but you just got another one outta me! Great video and congrats on getting into the hobby! I've always wanted to get into it myself but I ended up going down the information security route and 3D printing as a hobby instead... 😅
If an electrical engineer can do this then an infosec person can do it too - 3d printing is super easy to get into so long as you don't touch anything with the words "creality" and "ender3"
@@KylesMaybeElectricalStuff oh, I'm already knee deep in 3D printing (built my own RepRap Prusa Mendel over a decade ago 🥴, had a stint with an Ender 3 Pro that still produces decent results, but my X1 Carbon is my daily driver these days), it's just translating it to functional designs that would hold up in a fight is where I'm less confident. 😅 I can do very basic stuff in Fusion 360, but it's still an uphill battle for me at the moment. Regardless, I appreciate the encouragement and maybe I'll be fighting you in robot combat in a decade when I finally get the knack for it! 🤣
nice
I was most curious to see how the WiiMote was used to control Who Cares. You could probably get absolutely silly and map tilt controls to a throttle somewhere...
Nunchuk is drive, B is 1/3 weapon throttle, A is 2/3 weapon throttle, A+B is max weapon throttle. The wiimote itself only has an accelerometer, so anything more than waggle controls are infeasible with the amount of effort i was willing to put in (even then i struggled to get super fine control). Wii motion plus adds a gyro for actually usable tilt controls. I should figure out how to use it...
I have no interest in combat robots, but youtube served me this since I've been watching 3D printing videos. Good video.
This video is such good crack

Humour (Commonwealth English) or humor (American English) is the tendency of experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement. The term derives from the humoral medicine of the ancient Greeks, which taught that the balance of fluids in the human body, known as humours (Latin: humor, "body fluid"), controlled human health and emotion. People of all ages and cultures respond to humour. Most people are able to experience humour-be amused, smile or laugh at something funny (such as a pun or joke)-and thus are considered to have a sense of humour. The hypothetical person lacking a sense of humour would likely find the behaviour to be inexplicable, strange, or even irrational. Though ultimately decided by subjective personal taste, the extent to which a person finds something humorous depends on a host of variables, including geographical location, culture, maturity, level of education, intelligence and context. For example, young children may favour slapstick such as Punch and Judy puppet shows or cartoons such as Tom and Jerry or Looney Tunes, whose physical nature makes it accessible to them. By contrast, more sophisticated forms of humour such as satire require an understanding of its social meaning and context, and thus tend to appeal to a more mature audience.
very underrated channel. subbed also cool robots lol
You should check out the channel Alexs alchemy. Hes a beginner with a similar bot shape to yours that has some really really informative videos! I really enjoyed this vid, cant wait to see more :D

sry guys Ukraine and Russia have the best battle bots league now. They had Kamikaze robots vs grenade launcher robots last week. freaking badass
Couldn't you make it a controller output instead of keyboard
I've tried that - someone made a library to make any of the Atmega32u4 based arduinos into a USB gamepad. If memory serves me right i had limited success using it, but I ultimately found that the keyboard was overall less finnicky. I did add this library to the adapter as its own config, but nothing would recognize it for unknown reasons.
this is underrated
Great video! Loved the combat and the humor. I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but I had a similar controller disconnect issue with my ant weight (also using an ESP32 and bluetooth controller). The issue turned out to be the boot button on the microcontroller. Sometimes big hits would cause the button to trigger, the board to reboot, and the controller to disconnect until I went through the pairing process again. Other times it would still think the controller was connected, but wouldn't accept input until I fully shut down and re-paired the controller. As a short term fix, a big glob of hot glue on the button worked great!
THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE! What you're describing is basically what happened. I didn't show it, but in that final grudge where the drum split, the same thing happened where it died and couldn't accept input. We opened the box, power cycled, and just as you described, it came back to life.
Hi, kyle, if your reading this, how would you connect a wii remote to an arduino to control a robot?
The wii remote itself is just a bluetooth device, so I had an ESP32 inside the robot that it connects to. Someone made a library to do this which I used, though it takes a small modification to get it to work. I keep meaning contribute my fix to github but I keep forgetting to github.com/hrgraf/ESP32Wiimote The ESP32, in my experience, is not able to handle pretty harsh conditions (i.e. combat robotics), so I'm working on a different solution using ELRS, but it's still a bit immature to talk about here. That being said, I can still recommend it for most other things. Some folks use ESP32s to control 3lb combat robots at NHRL with xbox controllers and such, so I might just be bad at this.
I love this
Honestly shocked to see you only have 600ish subs
I had 97 when this was uploaded and still don't know what happened since
