I'm taking a course in court reporting it seems to be a crises

CR here with 28 years experience. Electronic recording is great…until it’s not. I occasionally transcribe proceedings that were recorded. The amount of words missed in electronic recording is substantial. Sometimes it’s the microphone, someone shuffling papers next to microphone, someone coughing constantly next to a microphone. You get my point. Mostly it’s just because attorneys stand too far away from microphones and nobody notices. What can be heard in courtroom is completely different than what a microphone will pick up clearly. In other words, if it was me being charged with a crime, I wouldn’t expect to get a verbatim transcript from a recording. Don’t let anyone kid you. Btw, im not shilling for court reporters. I’m retiring soon and have no skin in this game.

Did you say elected ??? As 8 understand Court Commissioners are appointed to the Position and Department. Are they claiming the public elected these vary honorable Commissioner ?
Why don't we just have voice recording in all the court rooms? Get the transcript when needed. We may need transcript only 20 % of the hearings. It will deter judges' abuse of power by having voice recording in all hearings.

You don’t get the transcript when needed. A court reporter will have a rough draft of the transcript in real time when a digital recorder will need to transcribe later on (sometimes using a court reporter). It cuts down so much more time in the long run. Plus not to mention there are a lot more technical problems. A court report will also be able to speak up when things arise and digital technology does not have the ability to understand if it does record a word properly or when it is not working.
@@101fanofTwilight but court reporter is so expensive,. If we have recording, judges are less likely to abuse power. We may not even need a transcript.
@@thegoldenland It is not about the judges abusing power, a court reporter is unbiased and creates a record of what is said in court from all parties. If there is a problem with a judge then wouldn't it be best to have an actual person taking down the record to reflect on what the judge had said? A recent example is the Alex Murdaugh Trial, they started with a digital court reporting company and had to switch to actual reporters because there were too many issues with the technology.

Now I want to learn court reporting at any Institute at US.... Whether is it possible for me to learn this skill being non-native English speaker, not much familiar to English kindly guide me in this regard

Thats a great question Ana. I'm actually searching for schools right now. Would love to know what the requirements are for loan reimbursement. It's pretty expensive...And I'm very interested in the profession. Any advise would be appreciated.
