IBADA YA PILI 20TH OCTOBER
THE STORY OF THE SHUNAMMITE WOMAN IN THE CONTEXT OF SERVING THE LORD (Joshua 24:15)
2 Kings 4:8-17
1. A POSITIVE INTERACTION WITH A SITUATION THAT REQUIRES YOUR ATTENTION
Life presents us with circumstances that call for action, and it is our response that defines the outcome. Every situation we face in the physical realm originates in the spiritual. What manifests in the physical is a reflection of spiritual occurrences. As believers, we must recognize these triggers as opportunities to act with wisdom and discernment.
2. DIVINE PERCEPTION OF AN OPPORTUNITY
The Shunammite woman perceived that Elisha, who often passed by, was a holy man of God. But this perception did not come out of nowhere..it was born out of interaction. You cannot discern divine opportunities without engaging in meaningful interactions. As believers, we must not be passive observers. We cannot afford to be on-and-off Christians when it comes to ministry. True perception comes from being consistently engaged in the work of God.
3. UNDERSTANDING THE CURRENT REQUIREMENTS
In the context of service, we must assess the needs before us. The Shunammite woman conducted a thoughtful analysis of what was required. She reacted positively to the situation and responded with purpose. As servants of God, we must be attuned to the needs around us, prepared to meet them with excellence and generosity. We should always be ready to fulfill the requirements of the moment with wisdom and diligence.
4. SPACE FOR CONSULTATION
Although the Shunammite woman was wealthy and well-respected, she did not act alone. She consulted her husband before making any decisions. Proverbs 15:22 reminds us, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisors they succeed.” We must guard against the temptation to assume we know everything( KNOW-IT-ALL DEMEANOR). A lack of consultation can lead to unintended consequences. Instead,
5. THE PLACE OF GOD'S BLESSINGS WHEN WE GIVE
The Shunammite woman did not serve the man of God or give her resources with the expectation of receiving a blessing. True service to the Lord is not transactional. We do not serve or give to receive, but rather out of a pure heart of worship and obedience. God, who is a faithful and just judge, will bless as He sees fit. We must never try to manipulate God with our service. When we give, we should release it into His hands, trusting that if He desires to bless us, He will do so beyond our expectations. When the Shunammite woman was asked what she desired, her response was, “I AM CONTENT.” Such is the heart of true servanthood, serving wholeheartedly without expectation of return. But when God purposes to bless, He will do so against all odds, far exceeding what we could imagine.
Serve the Lord with all your heart, expecting nothing in return, and trust that His blessings will come in due season, in ways only He can orchestrate

*"But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." - Joshua 24:15* In a world full of choices, let our commitment to God be unwavering. May this verse remind us that serving the Lord is a lifelong decision, a declaration that transforms our homes and hearts. Let us stand firm in faith, leading our families in the path of righteousness, no matter the challenges. When we choose to serve t...

Temptations are part of our journey, but the danger lies in falling into them. In Matthew 4:1-11, we learn how Satan often tests us when we are vulnerable-hungry for something we deeply desire. He tempts us with what we value, misrepresents the truth, and often disguises himself as an angel of light. Yet, we are reminded that with God's Word hidden in our hearts, through submission to Him, and ...

As we reach the climax of Brigade Sunday, we are reminded that "It is the Lord Christ we are serving" (Colossians 3:24b). Today’s theme resonates deeply as we reflect on the scriptures from Exodus 4:1-11 and Colossians 3:20-25. Just as God called Moses despite his fears and uncertainties, He calls each of us to serve with the knowledge that our true Master is Christ. In every task, big or small...
