This lecture explores the persistent segregation and discrimination faced by African Americans in the mid-20th century and the Civil Rights Movement’s emergence. It examines Brown v. Board of Education, which declared school segregation unconstitutional, overturning Plessy v. Ferguson. Despite progress, resistance, including white flight and violence, delayed integration. Landmark cases like Alexander v. Holmes advanced desegregation, but rising de facto segregation underscores ongoing inequities in education and housing.

Great video.
thanls for these videos, they are incredibly helpful for my AP African american studdies class
Ya rabbi la ilahe illa ente subhanaka inni kuntu minaddhalimin
This video mentions that African societies had slavery, but does not distinguish the ways that slavery in those society differed dramatically from the European version. Slavery in African societies was not chattel slavery. In African societies people were enslaved for two main reasons: as punishment for a crime or because they were prisoners of war. Enslaved people were considered human beings with rights - they had to be treated fairly or they could complain to the local chief and request a new master. They could own wealth themselves - and even own slaves themselves. In many cultures they could marry into the family that enslaved them. And in all cultures, their children were ALWAYS FREE!. This video mentions the narrative of Olaudah Equiano but leaves out his description of slavery in his Edo society. He specifically mentions how slaves did the SAME work as their enslavers - no more; they had the same food to eat - no less. The enslaved and the enslavers worked side by side; the only distinction was that the enslaved were not allowed to eat at the same table. This video states that "There were many difficulties for the captives during the Middle Passage." I think that might be the understatement of the year - the conditions of the Middle Passage were far beyond "difficult." The video also states that "captives...were instilled with obedience, often through beatings." Again, "instill" is a poor word choice here. "Instill" means to "gradually but firmly establish and idea or attitude in a person's mind." That is not what happened. Captives were beaten into submission, but, as Phyllis Wheatley's poetry shows, their minds were still free.
Correction: Gullah is not African words mixed with English. Gullah is an African-based language with some English words mixed in. Request: The speed of this video is incredibly fast and makes it difficult to process the information without repeated pausing and rewinding. The only option for slowing it down is to go to .5 speed, which is too slow. Is there any way to have the option for .75 speed?
Thank you for your service
Great video, really helped me understand 👍
Glad to hear it!
I love you!!!
wow yu are such a good man for making these videos i salute you *does salute*
no prollem 😎
thank you so much for making these videos! they helped me learn the whole unit in a short amount of time
You’re welcome! Good luck studying!
"Savage and brutal action from the Haytians," I guess it was their God's will to put a whole race in slavery and treat them worse than their animals 🤔
You are so cool and smart ❤
And now comes the rise of the Artificial Intelligence robots. Currently they are able to do household chores. And soon one day cooking. And then when they find out how to have sexual relations with the robot, women will be completely replaced. Congratulations women, you played yourselves.
Hey I was wondering on your website if you could consolidate all the files for each unit into one PDF for each unit instead of me having to individually print off each lesson. I LOVE these videos and they are very helpful as it is a brand new course. THANK YOU SO MUCH. You helped me get a 980/999 on Unit 1.
Thanks! I will try to work on that, I’m still working on finishing all of the lectures atm. Best of luck this year!
thank youu theres no videos on this ap class
This is really great! In a time where there’s next to nothing on this AP, this is truly the best learning/reviewing tool rn!
if only they had this last year when i took this class </3
keep the grind going
Your work is a life saver as an educator!
Why nobody comment "this guy carries my grade" 💀
hey just wanted to say ur a amazing guy for saving me in apush. You dont know how much ur videos mean
Thank you! I hope you have a great year!
These are so helpful!! Do you post any kinds of homework or test FRQs for this subject?
Thanks! The closest thing I have at the moment is a notes guide which corresponds to each lecture. You can find them here: www.apushslides.com/afam/unit1. There’s some FRQ practice and the required sources the College Board lists for each topic in each of the notes guides. I’m trying to finish the last two units at the moment, after that I’ll try to publish more of the things in doing in class.
Based
A good start to a popularized knowledge of African American Studies. But more precise theoretical definition required at the outset, e.g. The interdisciplinary study of people identified by links to land and culture in Africa and the America's. Important because land and culture are essential to human survival. Also, post WWII international efforts to decolonize history under the U.N.E.S.C.O. banner is ignored. Founding and development of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History also neglected in covering Dr. Woodson. We should be looking to ASAALH to create, circulate, critique and evaluate African American Studies curricula and institutional development.
Thanks man, this stuff aligns with a sponsored course I took! Keep going
Thank you so much for these!!! My school stopped teaching APAAS but they let me take the course as an independent study. This is helping so much!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I AM CURRENTLY IN AP US HISTORY!
Happy to help!

He didn't warn against the MIC, but the corrupting influence it can have. But, why are you singling out the MIC when professional and business services, real estate, finance, and health care/pharma all have much greater corrupting influences?
Imagine referring to Albert parsons a just some guy
That's my 9th Great Grandfather.
Excellent
oh my god its finally over
Dude you are literally the best, thank you so much for these
Every moment in history has created an exaggerated response.
The 60s radicals became the Yuppies of the 80s.
and this is why Black Lives Matter- because they didn’t at one point- we must continue to evolve and treat all earthlings with love
Now they are self implementing the same things. Way to go liberals.
Where? 🤨🦾🦾
Implementation exacted by the democratic party. F LBJ who fooled the and destroyed the black community trying to keep these standards.
Ahh yes the democrats
Ahhh yes forgetting the great party switch, classic.
@@MudgeCSthe great party switch is propaganda put out by Woodrow Wilson
@@lanasmith4795I mean it happened though so whats your point
Research the Republican Lily White Movement if you can read! 🦾🤨😱
I think you mean, “Ah, yes. The Conservatives.”
SDS might have been superficially about freedom of speech , civil rights etc. but in reality they were about power and control and nothing else.
