Really the Rev counter ... get real.
My favorite touring days were going up to Hakone and Ashinko. Nice review.
Great roads around the area. Unfortunately way too much tourists these days!
Same weather in Belgium ! My Street triple moto2 : Damp in headlight and blinker today ☹ .
oh dear, Triumph quality😓
Another good video William ! 👍
Thank you as always🙏
Hey William it's been some time since I saw a Vid. from you. Nice road looks like a lot of fun did the mirrors come come with the bike or is that aftermarket Question for you... Do you fellow MotoGp just wondering
Stock mirrors, and yes I do follow Motogp
Nice roads William ! 👍
Tons more to enjoy👍🏼
Hey William where you from? I just moved to Japan from California & came across your cb250r video
Hello there, my veins are running maple syrup 🇨🇦
@@WilliamInJP nice what part of Japan do you still in? Do you have instagram?
@@KotaT-m6v Tokyo, and unfortunately no Instagram
It looks like you're riding in Belgium , the place where I live !😂
There’s bamboo forests in Belgium!? Jokes aside I guess countrysides all looks similar
I nearly got a Street Triple myself last week as they were selling them at 3k off to make room for next years models but sadly they sold it on my way down. But then I saw the heritage white XSR900 and fell in love. So now I am a proud owner of one Yamaha!
Very different animal but a great bike nonetheless, congrats!
Good video !
Thanks!
Excellent, take us to Akita Province, where the origins of my dog are!
that will be a 3 day+ tour🤣
@@WilliamInJP Excellent look forward to it, get a backpack, a tail and tank bag!!!
Did a few tours on this already, have a givi top box. If I get the chance sure would head up to Akita.
@@WilliamInJP
Man, I have no problem commuting in 90-100 degree weather in this thing. Doesn't ever feel like it gets hot to me. Definitely cooler than my old GSX-R 600.
Thats great for you!
I'd do 1,000 in 1 month ha ha. I want a 1999-2002 Yellow 748. I don't want ABS, traction control or wireless throttle. My last bike was a '01 Triumph 955i Triple. Put 50,000 mi in 4 yrs. Now I yearn for a Ducati 748 like yours in Yellow..,Lucky You!
Well…lots of work needs to be done until it is in good shape. And it did break down once like a Ducati should🤣. Hope you find yours soon, and thanks!
Saw one at my dealer. The green looks even better in person. What a magnificent bike!
A stunner
Wow ive got 3 bikes. 1 ducati 2 triumphs one of them being a thruxton rs. I totally disagree with you about the slow/unresponsive acceleration. Are you sure you arent riding in rain/road mode? Instead of Sport. Putting it in Sport mode after the 600 mi breakin period wakes the bike up. I can smoke anything on the street except maybe a street fighter.
Yes it’s in sport mode, but I still find the revs climb and drop a bit slow. In the end I am still stuck at 4000 rpms so will have a better idea after the first service!
In the breaking period you won't feel the torque and responsiveness. It is quite sporty after 600mi. I came off of a Ducati Supersport 950 like you, and once run-in is done, I would challenge anyone to feel much of a difference between the Duc and the Thruxton on the street. Same power, same weight, same ergos, brakes and suspension are comparable. You are used to a Street Triple and that is no comparison which is closer to a full on sport bike- lighter and more tuned for faster transitions and higher revs. The Thruxton is a brilliant bike. You are also riding on a wet road which is restricting your speed and cornering. I can hear you lugging the engine and that is why your feeling it is sluggish. It is not on dry twisties. Also, the mirrors don't vibrate like the Duc. Finally, I disagree about the exhaust sound and decel popping, but I don't live in Japan. In the US, there are options for more sound, although I don't feel I need it.
That’s great to know, will be looking forward to the full rev range, the power curve seems to come around 3500 rpm so after I can go past 4000 should be a lot better.
Wooow its a beauty !👌👍
It is!
I drove this rode in a Kei car when I visited japan. Growing up with V-opt and Best Motoring it was a childhood dream of mine. I met a guy with an FD RX-7 at the mazda center at the top and he took me for a ride. Dream come true! Thanks for making me relive this with this video! Do you know if there's anything like Best Motoring but for motorcycles? The japanese bike scene seems way more gated.
Yeah definitely way less content or information for international viewers. You would have to understand Japanese to go anywhere with the main outlets
Mate your bag strip will interfere with the steering damper. Put the strips under the bracket. Nice Video though
Thanks Paul, I did try but they don’t fit that well. Did keep enough play so they won’t snap or catch the bracket though, no worries
Mitas sportforce+EVO here ! 210 euro (set).
Never heard this brand before, seems not available over here. How does it perform?
@@WilliamInJP Warms up very quick , good in the rain, excellent performance in the dry, quick turning in, rear tyre : hard in the middle soft on the sides . Very stable under hard braking unfortunately it lasts only 5000 kilometres ! I have the same bike as you 💪💪💪 .
@@massimobroccoli9854 Sounds like a great tyre👍🏼
I have the same bike. I too experience the same irritation with vibrations. I fitted grip puppies and that made a huge improvement for my hands. I fitted 255g bar end weights and that made zero difference. Unfortunately the mirrors wash out above 70 mph. The autoblipper is inconsistently blipping or not on the downshift. Up shifts are great. But overall I find the bike amazing. Stay safe.
Solved the mirrors with after market ones but yeah the vibrations stayed. Just got used to it🤣. Quickshifter got a lot better after warranty replacement. Ride safe as well Richard and thank you!
Hey William, its me again ,I lost the only key I have ,dealer charge me a bundle to solve the problem, they want me to have the bike tow to them! even though I have documentation and key code,oh this is XAVIER ,by the way, thanks for your attention
out of luck most likely you will need ducati to issue a new key due to the immobilizer
Thanks for the info, how I do that ,is it with the key code number?I ask my some dealers around, one of them told me I need to buy the costly bundle(ignition, instruments panel, etc)is that true?the bike is only come with one key!oh,the immobilizer drained the battery also,I don't really want to sell her, either
the bike always comes with two or more keys when new, if you only have one this means you lost the master key too, hence maybe why the dealer is saying you need a full new set, including a new immobilizer and master key. The dealers are your only hope now so if they are all saying that…might be out of luck
When I bought the bike ,which is slightly used,it only come with one key!If I got all the locks from another 950,with keys, will that work?including the ignition, you know ,just replacing the ignition, thanks again....
Xavier you really need to work with a dealer with this, I am not sure if the ECU has any code recognition or will be plug and play. Will need a technician who knows what they are talking about
On my second 2002 748R. Previously had a couple of 2001 models (including 853R). They're so pretty, and on an open twisty road they're such fun with the perfect amount of power for the real world. Awful in town though!
Keep it over 60 and they are smooth as butter indeed!
Which windscreen is that on there? Looks wider than most third party offers.
Powerbronze, but it’s bot wider than the oem by much though
Saving up for a 748 myself. I’m 6’2. Do you think someone as tall as me would feel cramped.
I would say yes, the seat doesn’t provide a lot of room to move around. Someone my size can fit easily, but at your height i would watch out for cramped hips and knees
@@WilliamInJP Thank you so much for your insight on it. Ducati 748 review videos are few and far between especially in depth ones like yours. Video makes me invigorated at the thought of getting one eventually. I think the experience of riding such a machine will make up for the possible uncomfortable ergonomics for someone my size. Anyways. Great video! Look forward to watching more in the future.
I am about your size. And I would say it is not a problem with your height. Height is not the main problem. It is more age 😊. 😊I am not young but a couple of hours on the bike is not a problem.
If your wrists hurt just get off and shake it out! I'm 6-2 and put 1500mi a month on my Triumph Speed Triple. Now I want a 748!
Beautiful example. I love my 748SP
Great bike
Thanks 👍
Just picked up my 2024 street triple rs in the gorgeous cosmic yellow. Have only been able to put 100 miles on her but I can tell that this bike is of such high quality and performance. Can’t wait for an exhaust to let her sing! Love your videos and keep up the great videos.
Thanks and congrats!
I gotta ask, does it still misbehave in traffic if you change it to its 'urban" setting?
Mind if I ask by misbehaving what you are referring to?
@WilliamInJP being throttle sensitive etc as one of the things you didn't like
@@kiwibiker9754 got it, urban mode does help with throttle response, but it will numb the power a bit too much
The Turnpike is a rather boring road to drive in a sports car, but it’s completely different when you hop on a bike! Especially it feels so nice with less aggressive bikes like cruisers. With the bit pricy toll, it lets you enjoy yourself occupying the road completely on your own!
Completely agree, little traffic and long sweeping curves Perfect for a quick get away
I have the same bike and love it .
It feels as if it's ALIVE
Slipper clutch was standard on the 748R.
Got it, but it has a aftermarket one!
watching this cause the black color RS is not available in India and everyone is just putting black PPF 😅
That’s a pity!
Do you prefer the Street triple than Supersport 950s? Regards
As a total package, yes. As a weekend bike, no.
@@WilliamInJP Thank you
Wonderful review! Woudk you have a link for the bar end mirror's?
Here you go: www.highsider.de/en/product/301-024-v-victory-handlebar-end-mirrors-2191018/
I only hear a noise from the timing chain at the first start. Other than that, I'm very satisfied. I've done 14K kilometres.
I have the timing chain sound too, and the quickshifter, AND the clutch cable issue🤣
@@WilliamInJP 20K kilometes here, timing chain rattle (cold start), two blinker lights with water inside and at 18K indent spring gear selector broken ! Still very satisfied !🤣
it took you 3 months to do 1000 miles round Japan on a red Ducatti.. sheesh
In and out of the shop, have another bike, wasn’t in the country, …etc.
I got a 748s myself pure love machine, wish you the best with the 748R ❤️🔥
Thank you, enjoy your ride!
Bike is sick William! Guessing you don't miss your Supersport at all? Going to make that my next bike here in the states.
I still do! The Supersport is such a great balance of fun, exotica and comfort. It does everything and miss the pops from that exhaust to this very day
Nice tour in Japan!!!!!!!!!!!
A 14 year tour and continuing 🤣
I currently have a Panigale 899 but have been looking at these as I want something more comfortable. Do the mirrors fold in to squeeze through traffic?
Yes they do
@@WilliamInJP brilliant, thanks for the reply. One of the main reasons I've kept my 899 for so long is because the mirrors fold and on the later 959 & V2 they do not. I need them to fold to access the rear of my property. Thanks again.
Looking to get a street triple but im 5ft4in and im older, how tall are you
5’7, both feet can stay flat on the ground
Thanks for the critic comments! I really want the bike, but also didn't want to get hard boiled eggs. So...now i have to think it over. But - thanks!
If you live in areas with less traffic no reason not to get it though
wonder if there is a replacement visor for that, I do also have one the silver one
They do sell smoked and mirror visors on their site
Just discovering this channel and I enjoy hearing your opinions on these. Good questions and interesting answers! Ride safe!
Thank you and do stick around
This is one stunning little thing! I am about to pull the trigger on an extremely well maintained 2004.model 🤗
great bike, I suggest getting the revo (2007+) model though, a bit more performance.
@@WilliamInJP Unfortunately in my country we have up to 2004 models. Shame cause I'm drooling over the latest models every time I see one in a video
@@WeeFreeMan78 that’s unfortunate, but still the older ones are great too
Nice to hear your quickshifter is fixed. Got my quickshifter replaced today, but no significant improvement for me. In any case, safe travels!
Thanks! And great you got yours replaced too
Thank you for answering my questions😊My wife is from a similar background with you (Asian origin, Western citizenship, living in Japan for quite a while) so your story is very relatable!
no prob, thanks for asking!
This is the first video I've watched with you on this bike. It sounds amazing!
That’s why I say this is a dream bike. Rides so well too.
I enjoyed this video more because I got to see what Japan looks like...
Thanks, more to come for sure
Not sure what you were expecting??? It’s a solid beautiful bike. It’s not lazy, it’s not a track bike. If you appreciate bikes and know how to ride you don’t have any complaints. I ride one in Australia, no complaints or negative things to say.
As mentioned in the video, the CB250R/CB300R felt way better turning and accelerating. I completely understand it’s not a sporty bike, but it definitely did not suit me.
@@WilliamInJP I think there’s something wrong here, maybe with the bike you rode. Mine accelerates well and pulls nicely and has lots of character
I think it comes down to preference, and it’s normal if a bike doesn’t suit everyone. It’s not bad, just not for me. In the end it sells like hot cakes, so a good bike for a lot of people indeed.
