How I grew mustard seeds, from planting to harvest and cleaning -Time-lapse Video-
Thank you for your video!
❤excellent😂
You can use a hair blow dryer on low no heat to blow off chaff.
You can create a chaff blower with the exhaust port of most wet/dry vacuums.
Very cool !
What zone were you in?
Heya! We are in zone 6, Northern US 😊 sometimes weather can dip into zone 5 typical weather depending on the year
Yellow Mustard I heard helps against nematodes in the soil but will also kill good pests so only use as a last resort.
Thank you. The best video I've seen for growing mustard seeds.
Shared your video!! Thank you!
Ha..ive wanted to grow some for the seeds and been stressing about what variety to grow..while the seeds are extremely expensive when done this way i can at least STOP STRESSING. I SURE USE A LOT OF THEM IN MY COOKING.
Separating the seed from the chaff would be easier with the proper sized screening rack, seeds fall through and chaff remains. A 2.54 mm. or 0.10" screen will do.
Nice! Good video without any unnecessary talk.
Do you soak the seeds overnight? I bought the organic mustard seeds on grocery store? They don’t germinate that well
When is the right time to plant yellow mustard?
th-cam.com/video/ss-1K---sug/w-d-xo.html Great stuff. Here’s a song about Mustard Seeds from the UK
Can you eat the yellow mustard seed plants while they are only 2 weeks old? Are they the same as mustard greens?
Can those be used.as.cut.flowers?
Thats a great question ..and the greens too.
Yes ,eat the greens, make tea with the flowers.
Do you use wood stove ash (pot ash) as a fertilizer or part of your fertilizer?
THANKS FOR SHARING YOURS IS THE BEST VIDEO.. VERY CLEAR HOW TO
I am definitely trying this. What month did you plant? What temps do these do best in? Your mustard plants look beautiful!
I used that Gorilla tape to fix a dust pan, I like your tub fix.
where do you store the pods for drying?
Heya! We just kept the bins in our garage to keep them out of the weather til they completely dried for harvest 🙂
Just got these from Pinetree seeds so excited to plant them. Are they more heat tolerant like they say? And I have some clay in NY and I’m soooo intrigued to grow em now
They are! Our growing season is pretty short, so the optimal time for planting fall carrots happens to be in the heat of summer up here lol
Where are you that you have wild carrots!? OH WAIT white carrots 😂
Awesome!!! Thank you!!!
I love mosterd!
Woow so good job.
That’s awesome. How many plants did you grow to get that much mustard seeds? Thanks.
Soooo many carrots!! Beautiful
Now what?
Grind them with vinegar to make mustard
Make mustard, use it with meat, feed it to the chickens
Now, you have organically grown mustard seeds. Make mustard or sprout them in jars. Enjoy the nutrients! 🙂
There is a.great steak.receipe to make.with these .u basically. Pickle.them...with a.shallot and hot pepper.chopped.fine..the one i.saw used rice.vinegar a little.sugar.and.salt. After the seeds..boiled.for a.little.while...to remove any bitter taste. ..
do you grow in the summertime?
Can't grow carrots here . they look like cow udders . Same thing with the forks ,went through 2 with the flat tines . Some one lent me one with the wide part going the other way. spent 100 + dollars for one that was forged in england , No more broken or bent tines . life tine warranty. Not as nice as the one that had been lent to me but has held up well for several years now . I feel if i had bought 3 of the other it would cost me as much and the headache of always having to straiten until they break. Nice harvest .How will you store them ?
Heya! Thank you so much, we keep ours in a big rubbermaid bin in the attached garage in layers of damp pine shavings. Having it up off the floor keeps the bottom carrots from getting too cold, like having them up on a big block of styrofoam or having them on some wood blocks. Then we cover the top with a folded flat sheet. The seed carrots get put in a punctured plastic bag with the damp pine shavings on a shelf in the garage where I know it doesn't get too cold, so I don't accidently eat them when I get into the carrot bin lol I'm sorry to hear about your garden forks and your carrots, are you still able to plant the sweet potatoes like you like?
Is that in grams or is it in ounces?
Hello! The scale was set for ounces, hope this helps! :)
I don't have any mustard seed like that but I just ordered some stinging nettle seed to grow for nitrogen fertilizer and they sent me some yellow mustard seed as a bonus so I will try that when I can, Thanks
Is that Bull Nettle?
So good to see you are back ! We eat a lot of bean sprouts . She get them at the asian store . But bags of mug beans are cheep , so i will have to give that a try. And happy birthday to (me) ???

Good how to video ! . will have to plant some ,it is a lot like turnips and radishes . The pods and flowers look the same .
Thank you John! I believe you're right, it was pretty similar to cleaning broccoli seeds too
