Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands - Sheldon Lake
มุมมอง 4K11 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a short video showing a typical campsite in the QE II Wildlands. This site is on the north shore of Sheldon Lake, which is located approximately 4 k from the parking lot at Devil's lake. This camp site is very close to the Ganaraska Hiking train wilderness section that runs through the QEII park.

Here is the second video of my best pictures of 2009-2012. I uploaded this second version because of rights management issues on the background music by U2, that I used on the first version. This now has my own music, "The Shortened Winter" as a backing track and should be available on all platforms. All images and music copyright Christopher HC Brown.

Here is volume 1 of what I think are my best images from 2009-2012. These include rural and city images. This is the second version of this file, as the first contained music from U2 in the sound track that limited the distribution of the deck. This version has a soundtrack based on my own music, "Fin's Beach". All images and music copyright Christopher HC Brown.

In response to the plane located on the far shore of Sheldon Lake. There is a privet building located there that was built in 1937, by my great-grandfather it acted as a logging and hunting camp for many years up till the mid-1990s. I basically grew up on the lake before it was part of the Ganaraska Trail. If anyone is familiar with the army truck that used to sit on Devils Lake, well that was ours and that's how we got supplies in and out.
I stayed on this campsite once. I liked it, but... We were canoe tripping, and while going for a day trip 2 ATVs stopped on our site. When they saw us coming they left without saying anything.
Yes there is a hunt camp across the bay that the plane is parked at the lakes about 4 km long the portage out takes you back to the for end of Devil’s lake
I've dayhiked and backpacked in the Wilderness (though backpacked closer to Victoria Bridge). Thinking of doing an easter trip this year in from Devil's Lake so it's nice to see what the sites are like - I remember seeing some of them a while back and thinking they looked nice on Sheldon Lake!
How far of a hike is this from the Devils lake parking lot? I tried to go this summer but didn't make it past the initial steep section and I'd like to know how far it is to your particular site.
Bought an hour and a half if you stick to the trail, we didnt quite make it to his spot. We crossed the lake with our packs over our heads at 44.857379, -78.848083 and camped at 44.856423, -78.844004. Its a nice spot we dubbed chipmunk hill due to the massive chipmunk nest there, they'll keep you up at night throwing their nuts down from the tree tops but its nice to be able to bed down knowing there's a vanguard of chipmunks surrounding you. Cheers
Thanks for the information! I should have stuck it out, but I found the beginning so challenging and I was a bit scared going out my first time alone and I panicked and gave up. I am going to try again this fall.
DFK - It's shallow enough to cross at that junction? How deep was it?
wagonman01 yes it certainly is. Below waist high water in the summer. Easy to wade across, just don't trip in the logs!
oh boy. So this time of year for 'wading 'is not good idea i guess. How deep is the water this time of year?
hows the fishing i this lake? lots of bass i would hope??
The stocks are pretty depleted, to be honest. It's become really popular in the last year or so.
It’s packed with bass been fishing it all my life as I grew up on devils lake best fishing is down the lake closer to the black lake trail
Thanks for the video. I am wondering, what other camp sites would you also reccomend at QEII Wildlands?
Nation, try Google maps. Devils Lake definitely exists.
sorry, I meant PARK in Minden (not camp). My husband and I also take out other people's garbage at wilderness sites, we are responsible nature lovers.
I would like to canoe in for the day. I'm told I can camp in Minden somewhere and start at Devil's Lake. However, I cannot MapQuest Devil's Lake (apparently it doesn't exist). Any hints? Many thanks
Marion Reichert it exists lmao
Great video, I've been planning to go up to QE2W for a while and will be going this weekend after feeling I've gleaned enough information to go. Thanks for the great info on the campsites!
desertusuf there are a few beaver damb that need be crossed I do not recommend a bike! trails are very awkward for a bike! beware of bear
Hey Christopher, I was wondering if it's possible to bike into Sheldon lake from Devils lake road? Just wondering what the trail condition is like, and if i'd be able to bike in. Thanks!
there are a few wobbly beaver damb that need walking sticks to cross. I dont recommend a bike in fact do not take a bike the trail is very awkward for a bike I do everything on my bike but I wouldn't attempt this... I was on that trail hiking and survival camping July 4 2014 for 3 days and didn't see a single person. if you get hurt your on your own.. beware of bear good luck. p.s. it is very beautiful and I'll be going back next summer
No
:)
Glad you had a good trip Super. I carry bear spray too and am going to add some bear bangers to my kit. I have never heard of anybody being towed from the Devils lake car park, so you are probably good for a couple of days.
I went with buddy of mine 3 weeks ago! It was awesome, we had to do a emergency camp because we got into the QEWL2 a little late! We camped on the mountain rock just attached to the first beaver dam.... It was a very dark night we spent about 2 hours collecting as Mich dry wood as possible. The stars were amazing and we also seen skink lizards everywhere beautiful metallic blue with gold.. Wild blueberries and raspberries.. Amazing trip can't wait to do it again. I had gone to a information spot in Barrie and I had them print out all the bylaws for minden and you are not aloud to park your car for more than 24 hours Ina parking lot they did mark my car with orange spray which came off! We just hiked back out in the morn from the beaver dam, moved my car then went back in and hiked to Sheldon it was beautiful... Doing it again for sure.. I had bear spray but I think I would to have a firearm of some sort... I had been talking to a local that said there were 3 or 4 cottages ransacked by bears the week before.. Thank you for you info even it was late
I was camping on the cliff in June and instead of a float plane, there was a helicopter parked on the lake!
SuperChrisssh... sorry for the delayed repsonse. It only takes about 60 - 90 minutes to hike through to the north end of Sheldon Lake.
Another question :) how long did it take to hike from devil to Sheldon
Okay thank you!
Okay thank you!
This is at the norther end of Sheldon Lake. I have parked a few times at the Devils lake parking lot with no issues. Happy trails.
Hello! Great scenery, so beautiful. I'm wondering if this is the south part of Sheldon lake! And also wondering if it is okay to park your car in that parking lot for a few days? Is there any payment involved? Thank you so much
nice work
