Andrea Gress (she/her) secretly thinks Piping Plovers are better than all the other birds...studied Renewable Resource Management at the University of Saskatchewan. She pivoted towards birds, after an internship in South Africa. Upon returning, she worked with Piping Plovers in Saskatchewan, and then as the Ontario Piping Plover Coordinator. Years of sharing her love of plovers with beach goers has turned into a full time communications role with Birds Canada.

    Being in Eastern Canada, I had not heard of this bird species. They seem to be following the same uncertain path as our chimney Swifts and purple martins. Thanks for a great educational video. I already support the great work done at Birds Canada.

    I don't think making these places public is a way to save the wildlife, much of which does NOT get along well with humans, especially those who think it is only to be enjoyed on a machine, or with a pet tertiary predator that they cannot seem to keep at home or leashed. We must make the distinction between "protected from development but for human recreation" vs "protected for the benefit of the rest of the species on the planet." We have key areas in the Maritimes that are fighting every few years, over and over against golf course developers. We MUST have legislation that at least keeps these fights from happening repeatedly.
