เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 พ.ค. 2024
Hi, I’m Natalie! After years of chasing deadlines and routines, I decided it was time for a change. My husband and I hit pause on work and set out on a year-long career break to travel, explore, and figure out what’s next.
Murray Out of Office is where I share the highs and lows of this adventure-what it’s like to leave the 9-to-5 behind, discover new places, and reflect on what really matters. You’ll find travel stories, honest conversations about taking a career break, and tips/cost breakdowns for anyone dreaming of doing the same.
New videos every week (as long as we have Wi-Fi 😉). Thanks for stopping by, and as Jimmy would say, Happy Days!

From Sunrise Temples to Night Markets: My 40th in Chiang Mai
For my milestone 40th birthday, I started the day with a stunning sunrise temple tour in Chiang Mai. This magical experience was booked through an Airbnb experience (link below), and it was the perfect way to reflect on this special day. From the peaceful chants of the monks to breathtaking views from Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the morning felt truly unforgettable.
Later in the evening, I explored the vibrant Saturday Night Market, immersing myself in the local culture and delicious food.
You'll notice one of the tour members’ faces is blurred in this video, done at their request, to respect their privacy.
Turning 40 felt like a milestone worth celebrating, and Chiang Mai offered the perfect setting for a mix of beauty, reflection, and excitement.
Watch to join me on this special day and feel free to share how you'd celebrate a big milestone!

Hello welcome to Thailand
@@sathitphemsoot9375 Thank you so much!
Lovely video on Lagos which l love. I have holidayed twice here and visited a few times on day trips. I did find a smaller version of Lagos in my opinion which was Vila Real San Antonio. It's beautiful too. It has it's own beach but it's a bit of a walk. However it has another beach which is a 10 minute drive in Monte Gordo which is a stunning beach. VRSA has a similar vibe and look. It's also on the border with Spain and you can just go on the ferry across the Guidianna River to Spain, Ayemonte in 20 minutes. Thanks for sharing your videos. 🙂
@@lesleysmith8300 Oh wonderful, thank you so much for sharing about your experience with Vila Real San Antonio. We haven't made it there yet, but will gladly visit on your recommendation. Thank you for watching!
Welcome to Thailand 😊❤
@@ThaiStyle Thank you very much!
Milestone birthdays call for something special! If you could spend your next birthday anywhere in the world, where would it be, and how would you celebrate?
Best happiness and best clip of the year
@@voradetboonpok4376 We enjoyed many happy days here 🤗
I’ve played football for RAF Lossiemouth at Tomintoul missed a sitter and had to buy the team a pint in the pub afterwards
Bangkok surprised us in the best way! What’s your favorite thing to do in this city-or what would be at the top of your list if you visited? Let us know!
I'm a foodie so I love China town and Ban That Thong.😊😊😊
@P.C.MORGAN so much good food here. We'll be passing through again, so I'll add Ban That Thong to our list. Thank you!
What questions or recommendations do you have for someone visiting Istanbul for the first time?
I’m not usually a big city gal, but Zagreb really surprised me with its charm! Split’s coastline was stunning too, though. Which would you prefer: soaking up the sun on the coast or exploring a city full of character? Let me know-I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Were any of these costs surprising? Would you spend time in Portugal or Scotland if you could take a break from work? Let me know if you have any questions!
Walking through the Rocks of Solitude felt like stepping into a hidden storybook trail. For those who love exploring Scotland, what’s your go-to everyday walk that gives you that same sense of calm and wonder? Share your favorites-I’m always looking for new spots to explore!
. British life now has become too costly to all but its richest members. Most Brits are pinched and they treat themselves to drink and eat at home and a coffee at work
Thank you for sharing your perspective-we noticed this during our time there too. Rising costs seem to make it harder for many to enjoy small treats, and I imagine this is true in other places as well. It’s a challenge so many are navigating right now.
Interesting to hear a little of the background on how and why you both decided to take a career break. I agree that part of the beauty of a career break is not knowing what you're going to do next. It's like you finally get off the treadmill and can start exploring.
Thanks! Exactly, that's such a great way to put it - getting off the treadmill. It’s been so refreshing to pause, reflect, and let curiosity guide us instead of feeling tied to a strict plan. Really enjoy following along on your adventure as well!
What’s one cost or category you’d like more detail on when planning a trip? Or, if you’ve already been, how did your spending compare to ours in the UK? I’d love to hear your experience or answer any questions about budgeting for travel!
Cooking every single meal? Try local food is part of all experience, without that, its a dumb vacation.
Hey Alex, appreciate the input! We totally understand that local dining can be an essential part of experiencing a place. For us, since we’re traveling long-term, this is more about daily living than a vacation. We really enjoyed shopping at local markets and cooking with fresh ingredients-it’s been a meaningful way to connect with the local cuisine and feel more at home in each spot. Thanks for watching!
It is a beautiful city, but I think the number of young people in this city is less than the old people, and somehow people go there to retire.
You're right-Lagos definitely has a strong retiree community, thanks to its warm climate and relaxed lifestyle! But I also came across many younger travelers, digital nomads, and families, so there's a really nice mix of people of all ages enjoying the area. Thanks for watching!
You'd be surprised to know that alot of young people holiday there too, you'll see them especially at night.
Come soon folks !!! WE need folks like you who appreciate our wee country !! XXX
I can't wait to go back next year, there are endless amounts of beautiful places to see and things to do!
Excellent video. As a Scot, I take a great deal of enjoyment in people appreciating what an amazing country we have. A long weekend isn't nearly enough though, there's so much more to see. I'm in south west Scotland and we have a good deal of beauty down here too. Haste ye back!
I absolutely agree, it's never enough time. We'll be back next year to see more! I need to get down to the south west of Scotland - so many beautiful places to see. Thanks for watching!
Exploring Grantown on Spey and the Highlands was such a mix of surprises and beautiful views! 🌄 Have any of you been to this part of Scotland, or is it on your list? Drop your favorite Highland spots (or questions!) in the comments-always love hearing other travelers' recommendations!
I love listening to your journey❤
Thank you so much, Laura!
I love listening to your journey❤
Thanks for such a detailed break down!!
Glad it was helpful!
What a great way to start the year off. Do you feel like you got used to not working in the first month or does it feel like you’re just on vacation?
Oh, I struggled to feel like this was "real" the first month. You're spot on, it felt like an extended vacation. It really started to hit home the second month that I really don't have to wake up at a certain time or be online for calls. What a privilege this time off is going to be!
Congrats on the start of an amazing adventure!
@@FlagstaffTim Thanks, Tim! Many more adventures to come 😁
