I wish you included the "Highly Responsive to Prayers" flash animation created by ペペーチョ. It's genuinely impressive in terms of both animation and voice acting and kind of reminds me of an 80's-90's esque anime.

something i honestly really love is that the artist for memories of phantasm drew a couple of story cards for lostword. lostword is fine i guess, but it's nice that an official game recognized such an important fanwork

I got in Touhou by my friend's recomendation. He said "oh, you like Mortal kombat? Then you'll like Tougou fighting 12.3!". And he was god damn right. Now I'm nuclear power addicted :) Also we watched the "Summer day's dream" together and I liked it.

While Sealed Esoteric History is my favorite of the three anime talked about here, I do consider the other two important to my experience getting into the series. Summer Day's Dream was the first one I watched back when deciding to do more research into Touhou after being only vaguely familiar with it. Despite my interest, the sheer amount of games and fanworks felt very intimidating, which was what held me back from becoming a fan for a long time. That barrier would only be broken years later when youtube decided to recommend to me uploads of Memories of Phantasm, whose vocal arrangements of the tracks from the series made me compelled to listen to the rest of ZUN's compositions and from there the rest is history.

I liked the world of this anime, while characters pale at its backdrop. I guess, this is what you get when they are written as normal humans instead of being sort of one-dimensional images. In many shows characters stand out so much that the world becomes irrelevant (in Madoka or Evangelion it literally disintegrates) but it is what draws attention, people are attracted to characters and this is why Shinsekai Yori is not remembered that often. That is my opinion at least. Also, the kinship plays the role. There is a solid reason why people like Asuka, or Shinji, or Lain, or Homura. When characters are shown at their lowest point, people, who are at the lowest point themselves can feel like they are not alone. Shinsekai Yori, on the other hand is not about personal drama, it's about society as a whole. Actually, cute girls drive engagement, that's the law. P.S. I haven't seen a single Utena kinnie. If that was the case, the world would have been a better place. My point being? Watch Utena.

Ironically enough, one of the most realistic depictions of war is depicted with unrealistic abilities. That alone was special enough

I know I'm a bit crazy for loving Zun's Touhou art style, but I didn't think I'd see animation that encapsulated the style so well. I had to watch Red Mist right away and wasn't disappointed. 👍

Summer's Day Dream's art may be worse quality wise, but style-wise is the best. It's the most fitting for the pure silliness of Touhou designs. Memories of Phantasm and Sealed Esoteric History, and a lot of modern anime, try too hard to look impressive and shiny, which is distracting
