Gruv Gear Kapsule Duo Bass - some possible questions answered
This is not a review, but rather an attempt to answer a few questions you fellow bassplayers might have, after watching some of the youtube reviews about the Gruv Gear Kapsule out there.
The Gruve Gear Kapsule Duo Bass is a hybrid between a hardshell case and gigbag.
After recently buying one and flying with it, I would like to share my views and experiences. I hope it helps you to form an opinion and helps you to decide whether it is something to consider buying or not.
All the best to the community out there.
Keep enjoying to play bassguitars - they are good for you :-)

Underrated Bass Guitars: 1978 Gibson Grabber G3
มุมมอง 9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I seem to have a heart for bassguitars, which are a bit off mainstream. Instruments that may sound quite different to the usual suspects or which look or feel completely different. One of these special creatures is the Gibson G3 Bass. In this short video I give you some background information about the history of this instrument and some general info about the production of the Ripper and the G...
Bass Gear Reviews - Revisiting Sound Examples
มุมมอง 4643 ปีที่แล้ว
I wrote bass gear reviews for magazines for about 25 years. Then I stopped doing it because I got bored. Basically because of the problem: "how many ways are there to describe and alder body, a maple neck or a rosewood fingerboard"? However, the lesson I took out of these many years in which I laid my hands on countless bassguitars is, that there is a mistery in how an instrument speaks to you ...
Underrated Bass Guitars: 1972 Fender Telecaster Bass

How to find a neutral 2-Band EQ position on an old Music Man StingRay Bass which equals passive mode

In an other video I presented my old early 80s MusicMan StingRay with a retrofit passive bypass switch (th-cam.com/video/JcxqY0aDwN0/w-d-xo.html) In this video I show you how to find an EQ setting in active mode, which equals the passive sound. I hope this answers some of the questions you might have had. Enjoy ! Oliver
What do you expect from a Marleaux bass guitar?

Wal Fretless Bass arrangement of indian song "Who Krishna Hey" from the musical show Bharati
มุมมอง 3924 ปีที่แล้ว
I once saw a live show called "Bharati" and was blown away by the Bollywood music, dancing, performance ... One tune stuck with me really strongly. Who Krishna Hey has a great melody and counter melody and I thought - due to the nature of the indian music - a fretless bass would serve the purpose really well. So I did this arrangement. Hope you'll enjoy it.
how does a MusicMan StingRay Bass sound passive with bypassed electronics?
มุมมอง 20K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my little story how it came about that I had a bypass switch installed to my lovely MusicMan StingRay Bass. This way you will observe a/b comparison on how the pickup sounds just by itself and then with the help of the active electronics. Active vs. Passive, quite interesting.

This bass is not underrated. It is exactly on the place which deserves. Sting's variant of P bass is thousand times better.

“Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I completely agree that Sting’s Precision Bass, to my knowledge an original 1951 model, is an outstanding instrument with a legendary sound and a special place in music history. It’s iconic for a reason! That being said, my video was meant to highlight how the 1972 Telecaster Bass, with its humbucker pickup, brings its own unique voice and feel to the table. It may not have the same universal recognition as the original P-Bass, but I believe it deserves more love for the tonal variety and character it offers. Both instruments have their own strengths, and in my opinion, this 2nd incarnation of the Telecaster Bass brings something special that’s often overlooked. Thanks again for engaging with the content!”

Thank you for your kind words! Yes, the G-3 definitely flies under the radar, but it’s great to see it getting some love. I’m glad you enjoyed it! And even though Phil Lynott never used a Grabber, I have to agree-it suits that bassline surprisingly well. Sometimes, a different instrument brings out a whole new character in a classic riff!

I had a 1967 Tele back in the late 70's. Put it through an Acoustic 130B into an Ampeg V4-B cab. It would move a house off the foundation, and had tone, tone, tone. It had the original P pickups then because the Tele was the original Precision Bass from Fender until - I think - 1963??? After that they changed the name to Telecaster. I sold it because my smallish hands had trouble with the fat club style neck.

Wow, you must must have owned one of the very first Telecasters, if it really was a 1967. They are really hard to find these days, much harder than the 2nd generation (like the one in my video, but mine probably was a transition model, as it still has a very chunky u-shape neck). Below is a detailed comparison of the significant differences between the first and second generations. #### First Generation (1968-1971) **Pickup:** - **Type**: Single-coil - **Characteristics**: Provided a bright, punchy tone similar to the original 1951 Precision Bass. **Body:** - **Design**: Slab body - **Influence**: Modeled after the 1951 Precision Bass, maintaining the classic and simple design. **Neck:** - **Shape**: Thicker, "U" shape - **Fingerboard**: Typically maple - **Feel**: Substantial and chunky, offering a more vintage playing experience. **Bridge:** - **Saddles**: Two saddles (each saddle supporting two strings) - **Setup**: Simple and consistent with early Precision Basses and Telecaster guitars. **Neck Joint:** - **Type**: Four-bolt neck joint - **Stability**: Provided a secure and stable connection between the neck and the body. **Production Numbers:** - **Estimate**: Approximately 7,000 to 8,000 units #### Second Generation (1972-1979) **Pickup:** - **Type**: Humbucking - **Characteristics**: Offered a thicker, more powerful tone compared to the single-coil pickup of the first generation. **Body:** - **Design**: Slab body (continued from the first generation) - **Influence**: Maintained the classic slab body design but introduced new electronic features. **Neck:** - **Shape**: Slimmer, "C" shape - **Fingerboard**: Maple or rosewood - **Feel**: Slimmer and more comfortable, appealing to a broader range of players. **Bridge:** - **Saddles**: Two saddles (each saddle supporting two strings) - **Setup**: Continued with the simple two-saddle bridge design. **Neck Joint:** - **Type**: Three-bolt neck joint with Micro-Tilt adjustment - **Adjustability**: Allowed easier adjustability for the neck angle, reflecting Fender's innovations during this period. **Production Numbers:** - **Estimate**: Approximately 12,000 to 15,000 units ### Summary of Significant Differences 1. **Pickup Type:** - First Generation: Single-coil - Second Generation: Humbucking 2. **Neck Shape:** - First Generation: Thicker, "U" shape - Second Generation: Slimmer, "C" shape 3. **Fingerboard Material:** - First Generation: Typically maple - Second Generation: Maple or rosewood 4. **Neck Joint:** - First Generation: Four-bolt neck joint - Second Generation: Three-bolt neck joint with Micro-Tilt adjustment 5. **Body Design:** - Both generations retained the slab body design, but the second generation included the new electronic features of a humbucking pickup.

@@oliverposchmannsbassguitar758 It was defintiely a 67, but had Telecaster on the headstock. Blonde, with the chunky club-style neck. Early pick guard with the small chrome mounting plate for the knobs. Now that I've re-researched these basses, I am corrected by the date of switchover to Precision/Tele. That occurred in 68, so why mine had Tele on the headstock is a mystery, but the neck was the original. Haven't thought of it in many years, but I hope it's still thumping somewhere. Back then, they were not that uncommon, and it came to me from a room mate, who got it from a want add in the local newspaper. That's how we did it back then.

In 1972, all Gibson basses (except the Thunderbird) had come with a big pickup in that neck position. I feel that was the main reason for this pickup configuration.

The active signal with everything flat is basically buffered so it's as clean as it can be, but the full passive mode sounds very vintage/classic.

I've finally had the fortune to get my hands on one of these - just put the deposit down for it today - and it's a Squier body with a proper old Fender neck, looks like it's been loved, used n' abused with all the battle scars on it. Hi Oliver and greetings from Germany! :) In your experience with this bass, would you say the passive mode sounds basically the same as active, just not as loud? Or do you find more differences? I'm used to playing active basses (though they doN't have much in terms of EQ) and planing a custom bass that I'm thinking about making 100% passive so I don't have to care about a preamp, batteries and all that jazz but I do still want big, aggressive tone ;)

My tip for StingRay owners is to unscrew the small screw which fastens the knob onto the spindle of each pot and re-tighten the knob with that screw at the mid point of travel. This way you have a visual indicator, at a glance, of where "centre detent" is on your controls. 😊

May I ask you what the thickness of the body on your Stingray is? I have a 2019 Stingray classic, which has a slab body like yours, but my body appears to be much thicker and the edges aren't as rounded off looking like yours. Im not sure if Ernie Ball made the bodies thicker over time, or Im just imagining things. I would prefer the body to be a bit thinner.
