Ignore the note about the key Fob being related to the problem. Concentrate on using CRC electronic cleaner on the male and female ignition switch plug which is subject to carbon buildup and oxidation every few years. If that doesn’t work replace the ignition switch as the transistor in the switch begins to electrically drift over time resulting in the BCM, ECM and anti theft module rejecting its signal. Also #1 replace the OEM battery terminals ASAP with good aftermarket brand like Stingers as the OEMs cause multiple electronic issues that can also be affected by temperature and humidity changes.

@bloodyKnucklesGarage I can tell you from experience get your vital engine parts from your local gmc dealer. I bought gm genuine from rockauto and let me tell you they are not nearly as good. Case in point I just finished replacing the rear timing set, which came from rockauto just a few months ago. The chain was very hard to get on. Very tight. Which I assumed was a good thing. It was not. The chain ended up binding and the tensioner did exactly the same thing. Caused a lot of damage. I just picked up a set from My gmc dealer, Balance shaft chain guide and tensioner cost 270$. Made in JAPAN. Unbelievable difference. I'm offering this as helpful advice. If when you got the rear timing done if the chain was nice and tight without needing the tensioner you are going to have a failure in a couple months at most. The chain should have a fair amount of slack which is taken out by the tensioner. I'd say the tensioner ratched about 3 clicks is what I heard. It will get a little tighter from oil pressure. But the main idea here is think to yourself was there any slack in the chain when it went on? Because there needs to be a little. And the slack is taken out by the tensioner. I hope that makes sense. Also My truck is running like a Mercedes benz now. Amazing difference. You get what you pay for. And made in USA sounds great but don't assume it means perfection. And if the parts you installed weren't AT LEAST gm genuine made in the USA they will fail 100%. I also went through 3 front timing sets all from rockauto before i finally gave in not wanting to tear the motor apart AGAIN and bought a set from the dealer. No issues since. Learn from my mistakes. Front and rear timing set from the dealer is about $600 and trust me, money very well spent. Or learn your lesson the hard way. LIke i have. Good luck.

i'm 2000 miles and months into my front/rear chain replacements with no issues. once installed, both had some slack, and tensioner did its job. If i could afford all authentic GM parts for every job i did on the H3, i could afford to drive a newer vehicle ;) willing to roll the dice from time to time on a budget. also 2000 miles into the complete tear down rebuild overhaul of the transmission using rock auto, no problems

Go price an OEM 2 piece steering shaft for the H3. 570.00 ish. No thanks. Rock Auto has saved me so much it’s ridiculous. Remember that a professional mechanic has no incentive to save money on your parts. They make more by selling you more expensive parts. And it’s not cheap for Napa trucks to do their routes. You pay for convenience.

And what about the AC Delco parts that are made in China?

I found some metal screws that i thought would work, and then i held different sizes of drillbits over top of the screw until i found one that was small enough to cover much of the screw middle part, but not the threads. unfortunately though i'm not sure the size exactly..

correct, it only increases the odds of a successful start on key turn, although can still fail. only real way to fix 100% is send to to PCM of NC for VATS removal

plus, the clamp was squeezed all the way and bent and wouldn't collapse any further, apparently there's a special VW tool to squeeze them, not just pliers like normal clamps

good questions! the hummer 5.3L didn't come out until 2008, and is a v8 with two valve covers. the 06 and 07 3.5L covers should be compatible but between 3.5L and 3.7L if they are the same valve cover i honestly don't know for sure, i've not had a chance to compare them yet. I would assume they are they same but i'm just guessing :)

Not necessary to remove you can slide the transmission a good 8 inches, more than enough room to work for this job.

basically the H3 thinks it's being stolen, when it's not. Over time the system has degraded, typically if i use remote start it works more often, if i use a key it is more likely to not start. when this happens i have to wait exactly 10 minutes before i can try again, otherwise the 10 min timer starts over. There is a place i can send in my computer to get reprogrammed and remove that passlock completely, so i'll be doing that soon!

it really depends where you are, for example where i am in Canada, a dealership would charge probably $180 labor (1 hour) and then $50 more for the spark plugs, plus tax...
