1:07 Good day, sir. Don't let the gate hit you on the way out. You're arguing a judgement call long after the fact, and kicking dirt off my plate in a move that's clearly intended to mock or ridicule. Either that, or you're trying to demonstrate how you think the play went down. Either way, you're done. Never mind that he probably got the call right, although I have learned that you can apparently see every single play crystal clear from the dugouts and coach's box, so maybe he didn't.
1:10 this is the exact moment you toss this guy
Looks like he never touched the plate...as an ump I can say at the end of the game, one side will love and the other side won't
What a gun that left fielder has!
Dude. Take off your mask
Why is it always the parents who are way more angry than the kids who are actually playing
The parents who are obnoxious are typically unathletic weenies who either failed at sports, or never participated. They usually understand far less about the game than they think, and certainly less than umpires and officials do. And of course, they think that officials can be swayed by their boorishness, which embarrasses the kids all the while.
Take your mask off when someone is talking to you
Why do parents even come to the ballpark anymore? Drop the kids and go home and watch your kids play on Zoom. And coaches, stop trying to refute every call that goes against you by pointing out “you’ve got it all on camera…”. Ok, so what? What are you going to do? Send the footage off to Williamsport and have the umpire fired? Yeah…that’s what we need. Even fewer umpires willing to umpire LL baseball and not being paid…
Well said. There was a time when it wasn’t this bad, when players, coaches, and to a lesser degree spectators, accepted umpires’ calls, whether good or bad ones, as part of the game, and something to move past immediately. Composure as the real power position for an athlete is a concept all but lost these days, replaced by the bogus notion that whining and arguing will somehow straighten out perceived injustices. It’s disgusting.
Why can’t an umpire do the minimum work by taking his mask off, get in proper position, and act like you have some pride.
@@rayray4192 --Your point is unclear. Are you suggesting that a home plate umpire should work without a mask? And what does your reference to "pride" mean?
@@cardinalRGWhat he’s saying is, when a ball is batted into play, foul or fair, the first thing the plate umpire should do is remove their mask and locate the baseball. We have a very close tag play at the plate here. I don’t know if he got it correct or not but, when a plate umpire does not remove their mask on a close play like this, they lose a great deal of credibility as to whether the call was correct or not.
So, regardless of whether the call was right or not…the umpire indirectly brought this on himself. It doesn’t matter if it’s the final play in game 7 of the World Series or the 1st play of a tee ball game…if you are umpiring and you have a close play or you have something irregular? You have to come up huge and make your call loud with a loud voice. We have a close play here. You cannot simply stand there and bang an out like it’s a routine play at 1B and the runner is out by 5 steps. No! Come up loud and big and call that out! Let’s go…
He’s a lazy guy making a little money. He doesn’t care about doing the job properly.
You actually cannot tell from this camera angle if contact was made by the catcher. The ump had the best angle. The kids just accepted the call and moved on....like a mature person. The adults are acting like, immature jerks.
Excellent point. It used to be that the adults needed to set the example for the kids. These days, unfortunately, it's all too often the other way around.
Yeah it’s all on camera he’s out!
Totally agree the runner should have slid, BUT I would be willing to wager that they haven't been taught how AND the coaches don't know how to teach them.
Why didn’t the runner slide?
There is no rule in baseball at any level mandating a runner slide. Sliding would make the tag more difficult.
It might not be the umpires duty but it should be the catchers duty to clear the path for the play
Not the umpires job to move bat. If he moved it and a kid trips over it and gets hurt, it’s on him. Trust me, I’ve seen it happen.
He never touched home plate either
My son 24 now. Been a ref for football, baseball, and lacrosse since he was 16. Donating his time etween 16 and 18 for pee wee football and little league baseball. Between 16 and 18 he had his well being threatened more than a dozen times by grown adults. We'll see you in the parking lot threats...or he's gotta go home sometime. Let's just say - me I'm 6-6 240 lbs.brick/block layer for at the time he was 16 for 30 years. Many games I stood up when he umped games when he knew had parents that were jack-asses in the stands and a parent made a threat to "blue". I stood up and said "BLUE" is my son....any threats towards him and I would meet THEM in the parking lot and also remind them - We ALL got to go home sometime." I don't worry about my son any longer as he is 24 now, 6 -7, and 230, in the gym evey night, and built like a brick shit house. He now ref's D3 college football and plans to ref professionally and has his masters in business administration.
You are psychotic.
?
Umpire is 100% wrong discussing it with the team that benefited from its fans!
He’s not an umpire
Nothing justifies misbehavior by a coach but it does look like the UMP missed the call at home plate
Plate umpire should have moved the bat before the play at the plate. It basically eliminated the runners option to slide. It may NOT be 'his job' to do so, but in the interest of safety, would have been the right thing to do. The kids at that age are only focused on the play.
Terrible call though. Got to admit
It’s just a game and coaches at that age need to teach catchers to throw bat out of the way
Awesome call, from the blue!!
No where near out. Horrible call. Wow.
I did umpired Little League for years and can honestly say the best games were the ones where the parents stayed home.
Funny enough that the coach who was complaining so much said at the end ... don't worry it is all on tape on the home plate camera. Indeed and shows the right call ... OUT.
It's damn ridiculous that umpires are so lazy and they think that the 12u game being played has something to do with them. As your looking at the runners you kick the bat and rotate to the other side of plate as clown
That throw to home was a dime
Where was the tag?????
It's a little league game stop the angry crap.
That was very close. Without good sportsmanship we miss learning something very important. Good sportsmanship win or lose, we all make mistakes and this man is umpiring youth baseball ✊️
I have to disagree with many people here. I played this back at .25 speed and you can clearly see the puff of dust hitting the catcher's mitt as the runner passed him, so the kid was safe.
What are these parents teaching their kids about sportsmanship. What about handling adversity and the difficulty that life presents. This is not just about winning a baseball game.
Coach was telling him he HAS TO remove the bat. As usual another idiot who does not know anything. If you can safely get the bat out of the way, you do it. if not your responsibility is any play or tag at the plate. Experience. Graduate MLB Umpire school. Single A, double AA, College. 22 years.
Vat was not an issue. If runner slides he kicks the bat out in front of him. Might disrupt the catcher. Catcher could have cleared the bat. I would have got my mask off and kicked the bat out of the way. Easy.
He made the correct call and this is a part of learning. If only the adults could learn something 1:08
Not enough fps to determine definitively, but it certainly appeared that tag made before foot touched plate. Good call by umpire. Parent should ask his kid why his base running was so lax, and he didn't slide. Shame on parents who set such a poor example for kids.
The issue is the Catcher is in the baseline on the throw. Little league rule is catcher can't be in the line until after the catch. However, if the young man would have slid into home he would have been safe. So coaching failure there. If I had been the ump I probably would have called him out as well. There was no collusion or interference, just good baseball
The catcher is legal. His feet are in fair territory until he receives the ball. Once he has the ball in can block the runner.
Was a great throw by the left feilder and a great tag by the catcher. Looked like a good call by the ump, but whether it was the correct call or not shouldn't matter. These parents should be embarrassed and ashamed at their behavior.
Plain as day he was out. Parents need stay out of the dam game. Oh my boys not out he was safe blah blah blah. Karens
My daughter got called out at first a couple of weeks ago at a softball showcase. It was close, but she was clearly safe. Later on, our coach told us she was called out because she slowed down and did not run thru the base. That’s what all the coaches scouting are looking for. So the ump did her a favor and hopefully she’ll remember next time.
Coach needs to teach his kids how to slide. You know how many times ive pushed a bat with my heel or toe sliding. Better than stepping on it or trying to avoid it.
I slo Mo'd this and he is for sure out. No doubt. Good grief. This is a KIDS game, not the little league World Series.. 🤷🏻♂️🤯
Is sliding at home plate illegal in youth league baseball?.... then again the bat was blocking home plate.
Sliding is not illegal. Slide hard feet first into home plate and possibly dislodge ball.
I paused video as tag was being applied. CLEARLY OUT. Foot was in the air about to come down about a foot away
WHAT A THROW! Kid was out too
I am a highly trained youth baseball umpire (I have worked all levels of youth baseball, high school, Junior College and worked the LL World Series, in addition to being an instructor at a Western United States level for more than a decade.) A few things you notice about this play. The umpire is not well-trained. #1 - he has the indicator in the wrong hand. #2 He is out of position to make this call. He was straightlined - meaning he was making the call from a position where he was blocked by the runner from seeing the actual tag and the timing of that tag. Did he get the call right? Even after taking this into a software program that blew this up and slowed it down to a frame-by-frame analysis, you really can't tell. After the timing of when the tag should have occurred, the glove does not move substantially, which would have indicated a tag. That does not mean he wasn't tagged, however. I am not berating this umpire - he simply is not at a level to make this call from the proper angle, which would have been from the 3rd base line extended behind the plate. We have all been at that level of expertise in our development.
This is quite deceptive title, click bait I guess, but besides the normal parents saying bad call, and the other team saying good call, not much happened. Thought is was going to be like some huge ordeal but nope just a typical game.
If the tag was made, the runner was definitely out.....as the ball got there first.
They're mad because they know their pitcher sucks 😂
