Cable lacing the easy way - spot tie and running stitches tutorial
Want to up your cable managment? Then this quick tutorial on cable lacing without Nasa's complicated knots might be for you! Cable lacing is a wonderful cable managment technique extensively used in the 20th century which fell out of favor after the invention of the common platic zip tie that was far easier to use. Yet, cable lacing allows for much neater cable managment than zip ties and I think it is totally worth learning!
Also worth noting, this non-professional tutorial is meant for home/DIY use only, and should in no way be used as a guide for how to do it in critical applications like the spacecraft you might be building!

    What keeps the knots from sliding along the wires? Does securing the ends to something (besides the wire) at the ends of the wire stop the knots from sliding along the wires?

    • @ChronicTechClips
      @ChronicTechClips ปีที่แล้ว

      Just friction, ideally you'd use wax coated lacing cord because the wax makes it slightly sticky and prevents things from sliding. Except in spacecraft I read they can't use the wax coated stuff since paraffin sublimates in a vacum

    Which driver?Can you make a video on how to drive it using a4988? i tried but failed to run it using a4988...

    • @ChronicTechClips
      @ChronicTechClips ปีที่แล้ว

      A4988, it's really easy you just need to feed some pulses into the "step" input. Depending on whether "dir" input is high or low it'll turn cw or ccw, and every pulse on "step" will make the motor turn one step (or microstep depending on what you set it to) I'll put the code for my potentiometer speed control in the description of the next video, but for now here's the how-to article I always use as reference: www.makerguides.com/a4988-stepper-motor-driver-arduino-tutorial/

      @ChronicTechClips ปีที่แล้ว

      This one was salvaged from an old Canon flatbed scanner, it's bipolar and I was very surprised to find it has 200 steps/revolution... Yeah the unipolar ones seem to have a much tighter speed range they can be used at, but depending on the application I think they can be made to work anyway via some physical accommodations

    Wait what material you made this from, cause the whole "Be carefull of Lithium fire" and all? Plus keep some space in betwen the lid and body (for any un forseen battery expansions).

    • @ChronicTechClips
      @ChronicTechClips 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made it from wood of course :p Yeah, I'm probably a bit negligent when it comes to fire safety for lithium batteries, it's one of these things I don't really believe till I've seen it. (bit risky ik, but there's a sensitive smoke detector in the room) But generally LiPos don't just spontaneously combust unless there is something SERIOUSLY wrong - yes they do tend to puff up at random times seemingly without reason, I've had that, but to burst into flames it'd need a lot more, for example a sustained short circuit where they get very hot as a result. After all there is a lot of engineering being put into _not_ making them explode at random. I think most of the "lItHiUm BaTtErIeS aRe dAnGeRoUs" is just the media hyping it up, because a bit of drama and badmouthing makes people click... Same thing as with EVs... If lithium batteries were really that dangerous they would never have been deployed at this scale. Either way, when they do randomly inflate, past a certain point they usually just start to slowly leak gas. No, I didn't leave any space between battery and the lid, because if they do randomly expand I want to see it early to be able to dispose of them safely, and that's only possible if the lid starts bulging from being pushed up. (sorry for the novel)

    • @lunarz7117

      @@ChronicTechClips Well try telling "lItHiUm BaTtErIeS aRe dAnGeRoUs" to all those Samsung users as their phones exploded in their hands, pockets and that 1 unfourtunate guys back pocket.... that phone burnt a hole through the pocket and singed his ass too! Yes there is safety circuits present BUT.... if it explodes/ catches on fire there's fule just next to it.... LOL

    • @ChronicTechClips
      @ChronicTechClips 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lunarz7117 Good point! Maybe an exception for all Samsung made smartphone batteries is necessary 🙊 they seriously messed something up there... But even if I had surrounded these specific cells by something other than wood - now they're mounted to a wooden shelf, lol! That being said, simply for lack of a better storage solution almost all my lithium cells are layed out on shelves, one next to the other. And since I do spend a lot of time in the room they are technically under constant surveillance...

    1. Instead of motor, i understand can also use it to drive LEDs (~200-300mA current). 2. Also can i reduce transistor stages, maybe by using PNP to drive the LEDs. Please comment on above. Thanks in advance 😀

    • @ChronicTechClips
      @ChronicTechClips 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, sorry for the delayed reply, I usually don't log into the second channel very often. Yes, you can use the circuit to drive LEDs, as well as anything else controllable via PWM. The maximum current is determined by the collector current of the final output transistor, so for your LEDs you may be able to shorten the output stage by 1 transistor, placing the power transistor where the last BC547 is (necessary to recalculate some resistor values). Using PNPs will likely not be of any advantage for eliminating transistor stages because the transistor before the PNP needs to be able to switch the full base current of the PNP nonetheless. If you want to go really simple you can only use the MOSFET version of the circuit, where almost the entire output stage is replaced by a single MOSFET. I recommend watching the video about this circuit on my main channel where I went into a lot more detail (if you haven't already seen it) in its description there are also three versions of the circuit diagram available for download :)

      Hi! Yeah I didn't talk much about the second channel since I don't really have a specific plan for it yet, but I'll certainly upload the occasional pet project over here. As for the microphone - absolutely, I feel like more and more stuff is completely rushed in development thrown together my seemingly total noobs who don't even really understand what they're doing, just to churn out more and more products to line shelves with. (if you watch bigclivedotcom you'll know what I mean) I think that applies to this microphone as well... I originally had ordered a cheapo lavalier on ebay but it never turned up, which may be an advantage since it was probably crap anyway 😂

    Maybe the audio to USB interface is crappy, so here is one idea: have the mic powered from USB (just a plain USB charging cable, no data lines, or use a phone charger) and use the headphones output to connect it to the microphone input of your PC.

    • @ChronicTechClips
      @ChronicTechClips 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Yeah that might be a possibility, tho from what I remember it didn't sound better through the headphones directly... I also thought about removing the microphone capsule from it and connecting it to a 3.5mm TSSR plug directly like my lavalier mic, or via some circuit of my own design, but in the end I just gave it to my sisters since they don't need as good of an audio quality for what they do ;p
