I have not seen this type of function on a grand piano before. It seems to be moving the damper upstop rail. I don't understand what the advantage of pivoting the upstop rail forward would be. I'm looking for answers!

There is no "one perfect tuning' for pianos! This short video shows the tolerances for the Piano Technicians Guild tuning exam. It demonstrates that a little flexibility in the tuning can capture time that can be utilized for touch and tone issues, especially voicing.

This describes the advantage of "floating the pitch" when tuning pianos. Pianos naturally go sharp in the more humid months of summer and early fall, and typically drop flatter during the colder months when the cold outdoor air is heated to room temperature and becomes much dryer.

For about a year I've been starting most mornings with a cold dunk to awaken my senses and clear my mind. For about a year I've been starting out most mornings with a cold dunk in my 110 gallon feed trough/tub! It really is a fantastic way to start the day off. In the summer the tub got up to around 60 degrees or so, but as we moved into fall I watched the temperature slowly drop, and now with the cold snap this week it is at freezing temperature! I love it!

I think that’s not the upstop rail, it’s a sostenuto mechanism.

Is this an attempt to emulate Bernhard Stopper’s “OnlyPure” tuning methodology?
More or less. There really isn't anything that special about the concept. Stopper is based on a pure 12th equal temperament, whereas I find that a 12th is sometimes too wide in the midrange. I shoot for pure or barely wide 4:2 octaves in the midrange and transition to 3:1 12ths as I move into the treble and then feather back to 2:1 octaves in the very top octave.

An electric leaf blower is a great tool for keeping a piano clean. I have a concert grand in my studio, and I blow any dust out of it a couple of times a year. If you do it regularly, there's never that much dust, and you can do it inside. It's when pianos collect dust for years and years that you're going to make a mess blowing the dust out.
Poor baby, look at all that dust. Take care of your pianos, people! (:

Verry verry easy , glue sandpaper on a piece of wood , which you use to stear paint in a can with paint and sand the front of the hammer softly till its flat , 1mm deep , and touches all the strings , nice job ! Greetings George from Holland

Piano seems in good condition...How old was this spinet? Were the hammers still factory originals? Were they filed before the needling?
I believe this was a mid-century piano. The hammers had been reshaped. It looks like there's a string grooves but it's really graphite marks.
For me, it's a dream of expenditure. Just a dream...

I had the same buzz on the same notes! The culprit was the lowest A also. Wish I would have found your video first. Drove me nuts for several hours until I decided to dampen strings as I tested to figure it out.
