Those "condos" are state housing for elderly and disabled. Down at the end of wall st are the family units. You see a large blue house in the back at around 1.17 .I was born there in 1980 and stayed until 2006. I watched my huge yard (freight yard) be built on with those buildings.
I went to a girls camp in the early 1950s, and remember a local freight that would pass through near the entrance to our camp. Does anyone remember the camp, which I think was on or near Concord Rd.? We campers would hike along the tracks.
In the early 1950s, my parents sent me to Camp Naomi, which was located in Billerica. I remember a local freight train which would come across tracks near the entrance to our camp. There was a gate which would close when the train was coming through. would anyone have a record of the camp or the train? We campers would hike along the tracks.
I used to walk on old tracks that cut through from north Billerica into iron horse park to over near the high school area
I know I’m late but did they Finnish the line
It is a good thing you documented this when you did. A lot of this stuff is gone or will be shortly.
Have you ever put together a map of this railroad? I am from the area, now in AZ, and I am building a model of this area. I am really interested in the old Hollihan's brewery area.
This video is 10 years old now, but there are some very recent comments! I’m a truck driver, and been over that High St crossing a million times. I’ve never seen a train on those tracks. Seeing the condition of the tracks I’m shocked they could still be usable. But just a little way past this crossing is another spur, if they pass it and then back into it, Pan Am still has a small yard down there. I have made deliveries there a few times. It’s pretty worn down, and I’m not even sure what they do there. But it sure was cool to see this!
Great video nicecatch. Can you tape a freight train with a caboose at the énd?
This should be an active Crossing when crossing gates to avoid accidents
❤ I love watching trains but this stretch of track needs to be replaced maintenance away needs to look at it
Very cool man! For due intense purposes maybe should invest in some signals at that one crossing just to be safe?
L love short line videos
This is my favorite shortline
You know if you did this video before the vegetation grew in the abandoned rail beds would be more visible. I found some grand trunk beds in Dudley and west Thompson about 3 weeks ago
Thank you. notice there is not a single tie plate under the rail on that bridge. Timber looks ok from here though.
ah yes! these are the ones i needa see ;)
ooh thanks for doing this one!!! been exploring the bruce freeman rail trail and the surrounding historical conservation areas and abandoned lines coming off it, just recently walked the abandoned line branching away from the rail trail into the nashoba brook watershed area at nara park for the first time after seeing on google maps that it connects to a section of causeway trail through a wetland in my hometown Groton! It was a shocking councidence lol. I also recently followed the ROW trail past the paved section and past sudbury down almost all the way to framingham for the first time recently, and even went along the intersecting ROW trail of the old mass central railroad that intersects at the sudbury diamond crossing. cool stuff!
Lawrence Swamp. That guy had one job.
Thank you. I don't know your 1st name but, watched them all. Conrail retired
Rt. 202
I just watched all 9 of these videos. My back is out and it rained all day, so good day to do it. I thought this was it, that's all I could find. So I dug deeper, as into your channel. Yup there's more, I guess 6 more, so have to get back to the show.
Rt. 56
Nice video! What day was this?
The Woburn Loop was, at one time, completely double-tracked. It also had automatic block signals between the two junctions--Winchester and N. Woburn. It was not uncommon during periods of high traffic or otherwise disruptions on the main line to have passenger trains such as the Red Wing and Alouette detour over the loop since there were no scheduled stops on the main line between the two junction points. It must've been really cool seeing CPR E-8's coming down through Woburn Center.
Thank you so much for doing this! When I was around 11 and at the Foster School (last year it was open), I used to go for walks along the tracks where those condos are now. This was around 1980/81, so while not officially "abandoned" by the B&M, the tracks were rarely used. I remember right behind the school there was a switch with the date (1800's) stamped on it. I think that was the beginning of my fascination with trains. My question: Does anyone out there have any pictures of trains going through Tewksbury Center? I've been looking for years. I remember as a very small child seeing freight go through there.
Always sad to see the old reils gone no matter where they are, it angers me when they want to rip everything out and turn it into a Bike jogging trail, its railroad history leave it alone !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every abandoned railroad has a story that deserves to be told, loving every minute of it!
Silently weeping, I understand how those rails are feeling.
Always enjoy learning about the small spurs . Nice !
Fascinating to see decaying 🇺🇸
Nice catch!
Get those videos now. This line is slated for abandonment to please local wealthy land interests
They can't force a railroad to abandon an active line. The air force base will not allow the line to be shut down. Those aasshole NIMBY's will be NOT succeed. So stop worrying.
Thanks for these videos. Get them now: this line is being threatened with abandonment.
Not going to happen. So stop worrying.
The roadbed is very visible on the right side of Century Mill Road in Bolton, a few hundred feet down from route 85. Also the right side of Cox Street in Hudson a short distance from Lincoln Street (route 85) It's also a walking path through Danforth Falls Park off of Lincoln Street in Hudson. Some pilings from the trestle over Bruce's Pond in Hudson appear during heavy summer droughts. I took pictures of these years ago.
I moved to Florida from Woburn 8 yrs. ago. I really enjoy videos like this. The history of that rail line needs to be preserved. Great vid.
You should do a video on the rabbit run Railroad that went through Athol
That river is part of rhe Boston drinking water
One thing about abandoned Train tracks and Railroads is they all have a story, it's magical exploring those rails..
You'll need metal detector pin pointers and lots of luck, you never know what you'll find.
I think you guys should go back in warmer weather and metal detectors, maybe you'll find some interesting artifacts.
I'm a big Maine Two-Foot fan (used to model SR&RL in On2...before I got married!) It's amazing to me that none of the books about the Two-Footers ever mentioned that the Billerica and Bedford right of way was re-laid in standard gauge not very long after the narrow gauge line was removed and sent up to Maine.

Dovetail Games just released a Boston & Albany DLC for Train Simulator that includes this very branch line! You can drive a train all the way to where you just stood at the end of this video. Pretty cool!
Great video!!!
Do you know anything/have a video about a railroad starting at 41°47’24.42”N 70°46’03.72” W
to think that 9 years later that yard would be booming with traffic
yes, he's back!!!!
This is excellent. Thank you for posting. Russ
