The smaller of the chicks toppled out of the crate today. Fortunately there was a small ledge to prevent it dropping 4 metres onto concrete and almost certain demise. We have now named him Lucky!

We are starting to see different personalities anong the chicks with some size difference and variation in feeding aggression.

The chicks are developing better strength and head control which is a benefit for feeding. The male kestrel attempts to feed the chicks demonstrating some inexperience in the task.

The fourth egg hatched mid-morning on 18th October. All chicks appear vigorous at this stage. We observed a varied diet of lizards, snakes, mice and insects. Don't miss the touching interaction between the male and female at 7:42.

I expected one or more of the chicks to start leaving the nest soon but not in such a dramatic fashion. There was amore varied diet today and the chicks had plenty of exercise trying to steal each others food!

Feeding today consisted of just insects after 2 days of rain. Both parents are making equal contributions. The chicks are developing at a fast rate with tail and wing feathers becoming evident.

The two week old chicks have learned the importance of food security. Fortunately there is plenty of food with both parents contributing insects, snakes and even the occasional small frog.

Today was a feast of insects as the chicks become more assertive in response to the mother making them work for the food.

good video. Went up there yesterday on my Sertao 650 (with Continental TKC 80s). It's a bit more rutted at the moment but still an easy ride on adventure bike with half decent tyres.
