How To Heater Core Bypass (1993 Toyota MR2 pt2)

Today I finish bypassing the heater core on the 1993 Toyota MR2 SW20. Last time we removed the dash and deleted the heater core. This time we re install the instruments and burp the coolant. Bleeding the coolant on the MR2 is slightly more complicated because it is mid engine. Check out part one if you missed it! Part one of the heater core delete showed how to re route the heater hoses for the...

Miata is like a Beetle replica of a Lamborghini ! compared to a mr2 !
Miata has no chance ! Mid engine Sportscar against a wife shopping car... funny i think you have never driven the cars faster than inner city ?
The MR2 looks a lot lot better than the miata and the Mr2 is more of a drivers car because it takes a lot longer to master the handling
As the plastic in the plug ages that “push down on the tab and remove” step gets harder and harder. My 2002 is about to hit 360k miles and I’m thinking 2025 is finally the year I will buy a new car. But dang, I still like my old Subaru outback sport.
have you removed the shield under the engine? and would you be able to remove it on a 2007 subaru impreza 2.5i wagon ?
Did you do a video of installing the headliner
Saludos desde panamá tengo un vw fastbac lo estoy restaurando y necesito piezas 😮😮
¡Hola! ISP West tiene una excelente selección de piezas que pueden enviarle. www.vwispwest.com
I see Miata all day every day. I Never seen a mr2 in person. I was hopeing it would be similar when you learn a new word and you hear it every where. Mr2 Is like ghost . I thought I seen it before whistling pass , Oo Nevermind it is a miata
Trying the Plastik Honey today, for the 1st time. I'm mixing it in the filler before hardener, so's I can maximize my application time. Nice work, fun little car! (New sub).
@@JohnnieBravo1 Nice! I hope the Plastik Honey does the trick for you.
Hurts your knuckles, but I just changed both of my son's without moving anything.
@@tellsitasitis Excellent!
Im new to Subaru's and didn't know about the crush washer until i watched your vid. Fortunately the new Subaru oil filter came with one. Cheers.
Great, glad I could help!
What about gas?it’s it a drinker
Oh ya, its a drinker. I don't have exact numbers but it must be in the teens. Part of the problem is that this car really wants to be driven above 3k. Its a dog until the turbo starts spooling up.
I just scored my d pilar sections for my 71. I fully understand your emotions in this video. The I can fix my roof feeling 😏
Nice! Its always a good feeling scoring parts for these old cars.
Did a 3inch down pipe w/ cat back exhaust and a Borlah exhaust, tasty sound, not a fart pipe punk kid sound LOVE IT from a Subaru Tech!
Haha nice! I really like the way the Borla sounds on this car. Just the right amount of noise.
Buddy put im two different oils for filter n oil im confused
Same oil, different size bottle...
I've changed the oil in every vehicle I have owned. But I just acquired a 2007 WRX and haven't done it yet on that car. This one-minute primer video was perfect. Thanks for calling out the socket sizes and the oil spec. It'll make the task go a lot quicker.
Love the hawkeye wrx! Glad I could help
Eine wirklich gute und saubere Arbeit! Schön Dir dabei zu zusehen!
Danke!
More of these 🙏🏾
Where did u get the rear valance?
I found it in the used T3 parts listings on thesamba.com
where is the rally cross track?!
One is Prairie City outside of Sacramento and the other is the Santa Rosa Fairgrounds.
When a somewhat generic search yields the exact model (color) and year of my ‘02 bugeyes WRX wagon I bought new 22 years ago this month to help with replacing its original bulbs (oddly, every single bulb, in and out, on it is original and works). I’m certain I have but 30% of the stock original bulb’s light output remaining haha. Thank you! Subbed, and ready to watch all of your videos.
That's wild!! Very cool that you bought yours new! It must be a relatively low mileage survivor.
@@DreamWrench 74k miles, it’s lived a good life in SoCa, some swift canyon carving but never thrashed and zero mods. Watching a couple other of your vids and would like to eventually replace the struts and maybe sway bar. I’ve taken it in the shop though and instructed them to fix/replace ANYTHING that needs it and I get a “everything looks good” so, I got a solid one I guess. The only thing that is broken is the clock and the #2 fan speed! I may ping you for advice. Great vibes and video though - you’ve got good energy like your bugeyes. Peace brother!
@@tpolerex7282 Sounds like it's in great condition! Most of these cars are thrashed. Replacing the struts was one of the first things I did. I sometimes forget how many little maintenance items I replaced when I first got it. I have some more WRX content planned. Right now I'm finishing up the Toyota.
@@tpolerex7282 how much
@@tpolerex7282 u want to sell?
the dash must be removed to remove the heater core?
Yes, that was the only way to get to it. It's really buried in there.
@@DreamWrench it possible to clean it without taking off the dash?
It would be very difficult to access the inside of the heater core to remove debris without removing the dash.
Great video. Thank for helping me keep my sanity. My connector was stuck so I became unsure of myself but your video helped me to press on. Took a few minutes to wiggle it loose but it was all smooth from there.
That's great to hear! Really glad the video was helpful. Those connectors can be finicky.
Great work!!! I need to do this to one of my squares. Thanks for the video :)
Awesome, thanks! Best of luck with the squares!
Whats the song called 🔥
Great video on bodywork. Thank you
Thanks!
Do you need a flat sander
A really long flat dura block would be great for this job.
Only because it's easier to maintain & get support..I lean towrd the Miata ( hmmm, but MR2 has trunck space..). I like the older design of both though. IF possible to answer, what do I look for in these 2 cars. I mean what is acceptable, fixable and what is a money pit. thx
Definitely stay away from anything with extensive rust or a bent chassis.
All of the bodywork mate!
Haha sounds like I will be showing the bodywork!
Bummer about the fire! Good thing your squareback was fine!
Absolutely
Perfect vid
Thanks!
I just got a '06 wrx recently and I'm relatively new to this kind of thing, you can shut off the engine after you park up the car or just let it warm up for a bit before you drain the oil pan?
It only takes a couple minutes of idling to warm up the oil so the oil is always warm by the time I get the car up onto the ramps. Warm oil before draining isn't mandatory but some people prefer doing it that way. Just be careful not to burn yourself if you try to drain the oil when the engine is actually hot. Best of luck!
@@DreamWrench 2-5 mins of idling the motor would be ok? Thanks by the way, just waiting to get the crush washer in the mail soon which I can't drive the car for the next few days ugh and to make it worse, it stinks (literally) and the car will require professional help to get the interior cleaned up. 🤦🏽♂
@@mista_ruby 2-3 minutes should be plenty. Any more than that you want to be careful not to burn yourself. Best of luck getting the car cleaned up! Sounds like a great project!
@@DreamWrench Thanks =]
@@DreamWrench Thanks and btw I used the same oil and oil catch can too, it really helped! =]
Are there different bulbs for both high and low beams, or is there one dual filament bulb for both?
Good question. It's a dual filament bulb.
Thanks

Hi, is there no service reset to do on the speedo? Thx
I don't believe there is a service reset for an oil change on the GD chassis. I just take note of the mileage when I change the oil.
Mate, you went to all that trouble and didn't change/upgrade the shocks? 😮
Already did the shocks
Since yours is a 2002 like mine AND you're in the USA, I was just wondering where you would source a brand new complete headlamp assembly from if you had to. I'm in Australia and if I want a *brand new* item my only choice is to get it from Japan - there are no aftermarket options here and the car is too old for any Subaru dealers to carry the part. This makes it very pricey. I'm just wondering if you have options available to you over there it may be cheaper for me to import it from USA, but I have no idea where to start looking.
Last time I looked I didn't see new OEM units available. I think we have to pull good used ones from the junk yard now.
@@DreamWrench No worries, thanks for the reply mate.
@ashchaya7676 What you could do is grab a used JDM set off ebay. The JDM units look so much better imo. Unfortunately in the US we have to convert JDM headlights to left hand drive but they should be fairly plug and play for you guys in AUS.
@@DreamWrench Yeah JDM is what I have access to, it's just that they're hugely expensive to buy genuine. I want brand new rather than used because the whole reason I'm doing this is to get nice and pretty clear lenses for the final touches to my project Forester :)
Patrick, I’m a neighbor of Trish & Brian’s. Had dinner with them tonight. They mentioned that you were restoring a VW Squareback & had a You Tube site called Dream Wrench. Just checked it out, subscribed. Good name. I’m coming into procession of two Karmann Ghia’s. I intend to restore one and I don’t know with the other one. Maybe you would be interested in comparing notes. Let me know, Mark
Absolutely! I just asked them to send you my contact. Would love to check out the Ghias sometime or have you swing by my place. Sounds like you got a couple of early 60s models?
2 more bulbs are in this headlight so maybe show how to replace those also? also could've included what bulb types that go in
Fur sure! Maybe I'll make another video. I do have a link to the bulb that I used in this video in the description.
nice
Thanks

Awesome love the music❤

Thanks for making this a simple to-the-point vid without all the "Whatsupguiz I'm blabla and shoutout to blabla and I'm here with blabla at blabla and he thinks blabla and I think blabla so what we're gonna do is blabla but first blablablabla..."
lololol I'll drop the 90 Minute Bulb Change video next week
Nice to see you at it again! I use that very same catch pan, but for coolant, as I already had a VERY old oil catch pan that still does the job. I kept feeling like this could have been taken in my garage. Same Craftsman driver, nearly same looking car..
We basically have the same set up! It's good to be back in the garage and making videos again. The next VW video will take a minute to make so its nice to get another short one out in the meantime. Good to hear from you!
@@DreamWrench I’ve got a doozy to put together about my WRX. I actually just decided it really has to be more than one video, so I need to get started on the first. Keep getting in that garage!
Noice 👽
Thanks mang!
Who knew you could change your oil in a minute? Who knew you could change your oil at all? Thanks so much for making this look so easy. It's probably a little harder than we imagine but it really makes you want to do it. I especially appreciate all the little details, like spread oil on the filter gasket, and don't forget to dispose of oil container properly.
Thanks Jan!! It really is pretty easy once you know what to do and have a few tools.
I guarantee you CAN change your own oil and filter as long as you have some basic tools. It really is as simple as it looks here (unless you have mild OCD like me) and I really do recommend the latex gloves as shown in this vid too. EDIT: You'll need an oil filter wrench though. That's the only non-basic tool.
Love this, very succinct and helpful! 🎉🔧🔧🔧
Thanks 🙏🙏🙏
Been a minute bro.
Should I just replace mine with stock bulbs or should I upgrade? If you think I should upgrade what should I upgrade to?
I went with the stock bulbs. They're fine as long as your lenses are clear.
I upgraded to LEDs mainly because I'm constantly driving on rough rural highways and LEDs don't blow because they have no filaments. However you will need different wiring to make this upgrade. (I was blowing globes every few months with the stock bulbs)
