Keynote talk from the 2021 Deleuze and Guattari Studies conference in Prague. This talk argues that the concept of the assemblage is the engine that drives schizoanalysis as a whole.

Deleuze and Guattari's concept of becoming is elusive to say the least. In this lecture I show that it can only be understood by connecting it to the planes of immanence and organisation.

In conversation with David Nicholls I talk about the 5 books that have influenced me most The Practice of Everyday Life, Anti-Oedipus, Marxism and Form, Looking Awry, and Orientalism with digressions about the state of the contemporary university, wind farms, and using philosophy to change the world.

Drawn from chapter 2 of my book Assemblage Theory and Method this lecture discusses Deleuze and Guattari's schizoanalytic work on sadism and masochism. It explains why the new materialist focus on content is false and demonstrates why it is more useful to focus on form.

Discussion with Mo Hadi about biopolitics, biopower, control society, schizoanalysis and contemporary politics (the last days of Trump). We talk about the differences between Foucault's concepts of discipline and security and how these may be compared to Deleuze's idea of a control society.

This segment is drawn from chapter two of Assemblage Theory and Method (Bloomsbury 2020). It explores Deleuze and Guattari's concept of desire and argues that new materialism is wrongheaded in its understanding of assemblages because it does not take desire into account. It uses the children's TV character Lightning McQueen as an illustration of the concept of desiring machine.

I ask the question: how does stratification work? I explain its origins in a theory of chaos and show that the three main types of strata are radically distinct from one another.

This lecture is adapted from Chapter 1 of my book Assemblage Theory and Method. It asks questions about how we should understand the concept of strata and proposes a new way of reading it. It uses the example of Stephen Jay Gould's discussion of the Cambrian explosion as a way of thinking about the importance of challenging presupposition.

Discussion of the relation between Deleuze and Guattari's concepts of territory and assemblage drawn from my book Assemblage Theory and Method (prepared for the Latin American network of Deleuze and Guattari studies). It uses the example of a visit to Disneyland in 2017 as a way of thinking about Trump and the turn to the right in global politics.
