From what I can gather it is not polysexual but intentional community. Even traditional communities are not solely marriage and no other relating. It is so sad that extended families nearby are so rare these days.

Solidarity vs solitude. Some may prefer one or both. But these are not opposed to another. One may seek to be alone for contemplation or reservedness. But, in solidarity there is the familial experience of connectedness. I actually think 'solidarity' or 'mutual affection' are better conceits then just saying 'community' which could become cliche or cultish (hence 'the collective'). Side B myself, pragmatically, I think there should be lifestyles based around such solidarity for those that are not on the traditional path. For most of church history that path might've been seen as 'monastic'. But I think as 21st century Christians (and those of us Protestants) the second tier path should be given as solidarity after 'pursuing/marriage' for those singles that want to remain single or celibate whether short or long term. I think if we approach it this way than classifying or categorizing as sexual identity, our conservative faith communities will be more open. Because then they'll see we aren't changing anything they hasn't already been repeated in Church History or in Scripture but bringing it into a modern context

I've also seen Christians completely miss the point and conflate Pride with the Deadly Sin of Pride and thus start going on about the virtue of Humility.... which couldn't be further from reality. It's humbling for me to accept that I am a GSM Christian, that I am a Christian who is a gender and sexual minority person and a gender and sexual minority person who is a child of the One God.

Honestly, I think living in God's image, is to love as unconditionally as we can with our limited human nature. If God is love and love means to will the good of the other, that's what we're called to do, nothing less, nothing more.

Hey Blake! So glad these conversations have been helpful! We would love to hear more of your thoughts as you listen to more. We have more conversations on partnerships planned for in the future. One of the main factors is connecting with couples that are open enough to be public because of various factors. One resource that could be helpful in the meantime is Eve Tushnet's book Tenderness. In one of the chapters she does share at least a little bit of a story of a couple that committed to celibacy together. It is not much in detail but that could be helpful.

Thank you so much for this episode! This was my first episode listening to Life on Side B and I was drawn to it because I am also a bisexual Christian. When you guys talked about how the Gospel meets the needs of the needy more than the satisfaction of the full, I was so moved! As I have struggled with my theology of sexuality, it has been difficult to find a community and belonging in both the Christian and LGBTQ+ circles, but finding that there is a group of LGBTQ+ Christians has utterly changed my life! I am so looking forward to hearing more episodes from you guys! Thank you so much!

Just coming back to this video! The conversation was so rich, and so many topics were touched on that deserve further conversation: developing friendships across gender and sex, differing gender and orientation experiences in Side B community, how the church compels demisexuality for afab folks, and how the broader community can begin to think about misogyny and has already begin to do so. I look forward to hearing more from Johanna F., Ashley, and Sarah.

This whole side A, side B deal is confusing to people. Just say you are gay people who don't have sex because you believe the Bible says it's wrong. Simple.

35:56 this has been my exact experience. I can count on one hand the amount of times i've heard the word "gay" or "homosexual" or anything like that used in church (twice), and in both instances it was a small couple of seconds throwaway comment of little value or meaning from parishioners, and not from anyone of leadership in the church. I've never heard a sermon on the issue of sexuality or even one that mentions it even for just a couple of sentences as an aside to a larger topic. and I can see how that would be seen as the ideal way to approach the topic, and it's certainly better than someone screaming from the pulpit that we're going to hell, but when there is a precedent of exclusion towards sexual and gender minorities in the church, the default is not one of positive inclusion, or even neutrality and indifference for that matter, the default becomes one of fear and exclusion. Until the precedent of exclusion is gone, active inclusion is the only way to include sexual and gender minorities.
