On highway projects they would do that to us quite often... meaning they would pull concrete from another project & dump it at our site. So they're making twice the money!! The last guy on the route gets screwed over.

Many times, what happens when you adjust a steering box for loose steering while driving straight. It gets better but then tightens up during left and right turns. Considering the majority of driving is done in the middle of the steering gear, that's where the most wear happens, so adjusting it means bringing the gears closer together, and reducing lash, which is good for the worn center, but the left and right side of the gear still contain lots of material, and will bind up tightly while turning left to right. A new steering box is generally what's needed. Unless your issue was a seized support pitman arm the gm's have.
