That "pointless" circuit is for battery protection. The drill stops when the voltage falls to far to be recharged, so you can't fry a battery every time you use the drill. It may also have some other safety functions, idk, I didn't get a close look at it. It could have a thermistor on the motor, to prevent a melt-down, or monitor circuit current, to prevent a smoke show. Regardless, the circuit is designed to save you money, and you didn't actually diagnose the problem.

My hart drill stopped working as well. Up til this point I didnt have any complaints about the brand at all. But other day im going to use the drill and I can hear the drill power but slowly die which i think its the battery so I yell to my son to come grab this battery and go get the other battery thats currently on the charge n replace it with this one. He come out with the battery and now the drill doesnt do anything. So i yell to my son again " bro dont tell me you brought me the same battery back becuz this is dead lol" " he replies " Its highly possible" lol smart ass. But after trying all 5 batteries that i have. I thought either my son is a jerk or this drill is garbage bound.
