This area is known as railway quarters located in Kalyan east. It had some 20-30 houses for low rank railway employees. Many of the houses started remaining empty for the last few years because of lack of maintenance from the owners(railway). Then during covid lockdown, some people nailed Number Labels on all the trees. Since the last six months, dull dozers have been clearing the houses from the area. Next in line is the trees themselves.
Around 3-4 rail lines are planned to replace these trees. This is the last remaining vegetation in the Kalyan area which has undergone massive deforestation since 1991, back when it resembled a lush konkan village with hills and water falls.
It's really strange how people trash their own home towns and then show up at matheran and malshej ghat once a year to relive what their homes once were. Money is a destructive motivator.
