Found this very interesting as a full time unpaid carer myself. In past employments I have done some very hard, challenging, demanding, physical hard work, but being a carer for a loved one is by far the most challenging, exhausting ,demanding, emotional, isolating, hard work that I've ever done. Sometimes I sit alone and wonder where my physical and mental strength comes from. I have to remain strong for the person I love and care for, and to remain strong for my own health. I feel that many people will always under estimate and under value the role of an unpaid carer until the day that they may become a carer themselves. Thank you for putting this out here for others to see, 👍.

Hi. Can i ask a question? I care 24/7 for my diaabled partner since January 2020 and my partner receives PIP since January 2020. We are both in Universal Credit. I never claimed for Carer'w Allowance due to not knowing about this Benefit. I recently found out and applied. My question is: Can Carer's Allowance be backdated to the day i started her care, January 2020 ? Thank you!

Or instead request carers element on UC which is £180 a month as it you apply for carers allowance with your UC it's means tested and you will have it dedicated form UC and end up like £50 worse off. Or least that was the case in 2019/20 when I last checked

I’m a single parent with 2 children and claiming carer’s allowance for my 9yr old Autistic son I also get universal credit’s and I work 16hrs a week. My wage has just gone up at work and I’ve been given a bonus, what will happen with my carers allowance as I’ve gone over my allowed earnings of £151, so this is making me panic a bit. Does anyone know?

Hello Carer's Allowance Rate 2024/2025 Carer's Allowance Rate 2023/2024 Per Week £81.90 £76.75 Every Four Weeks £327.60 £307 Per Year £4,258.80 £3,991 If possible speak to employer and ask if you can reduce hours. You don't have to work 16 hours minimum for universal credit and you have special circumstances

I commented on another post This is how it has been for me: Pip declined at tribunal , no assessment or consultation . ( amputated finger & bone misdiagnosed as a laceration , turned away from treatment 6 times because of original diagnosis, causing whole hand to claw & severe pain .. N H S admitted fault of misdiagnosis after an investigation) I’m a full time carer & lost my part time job because of it, living on carers allowance & £160 UC a month . Council tax department also admitted to mistaking my identity and deducted £8,000 of my UC for six years & still rising ! . Mistaken identity goes back 34 years ! If I didn’t have the documented evidence of admittance from N H S and council tax no one would believe me . I have PTSD because of both issues and receiving therapy. Diagnosed CRPS , arthritis & dupytrens contracture . At my tribunal they told me they used my application forms as their assessment, with no need for a consultation!!!

Anything you claim from PIP has nothing to do with UC. I am a former AA/AO for DWP UC. Anything from CA will be taken off UC but Carer's Element is part of UC and isn't affected. If you have any problem in this regard, you must first alert your Work Coach via your portal/journal - service issues and your Case Manager. You can call the NTL line and ask for a HO or Handover to be sent to the CM for their attention in this regard. If you have further issues ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration to be sent to a Decision Maker. Case Managers and Work coaches have time restrictions on actions, sadly Decision Makers do not and they have a high yield of cases. I hope this helps.

Hi Suzanne , Thank you for doing this. I did get to a certain point & got interrupted. I would like to Thank Mobilise for your emails & advice. Helping to keep our sanity. My dad has Vascular Parkinsonism & I've been caring for him even before his diagnosis due to helping him with my mum who had Lewybodies dementia. I have cried , got angry , sad felt some days out of my control. Can't believe both parents struck with brain disorders that have a major impact on all our lives. The main thing that shocked me as main carer was feeling lonely. I have my daughter back at home from Uni , I have a partner who doesn't live with us but is there for me at the end of a phone. I have carers help dad with personal care as it needs a double up I can no longer move him safely. I have a lady who sits with dad while I have respite & chat to her. But regardless of all the interactions I still feel very lonely. My dad has swallowing issues & feed with risk he didn't want a peg so I've self taught blending foods & finding foods & he's on Nutricreme daily. Noone I know does this or can do this around me. So I feel alone it really can be scary if dad chokes. I did have advice from SALT speech & language therapy but they gave up when he was feed at risk. So I've successfully kept him alive since he left hospital last October. Some days are very difficult. Seeing your dad change from being able bodied & mentally self stimulated to bedbound, virtually paraplegic & non cognitive is a shock in itself. You get used to the new norm but the memories are sad knowing of what he used to do. I therefore hit anticipatory grief. So I am grateful for your check-ins, advice & just knowing other people are out there being main carers & the emotions & hurdles we face are in fact normal in the care giving world ❤
