    My symptoms started at the age of 47. My fingers on my left hand were stiff and were difficult to move. People noticed that my walk was not normal. I was often asked did I hurt.I noticed nothing different about my walk. It was difficult getting up from a chair and getting out of a car. I was diagnosed a year later, it was the onset of tremors starting in my right hand that caused my other symptoms to be recognized as Parkinson's.I am now 59. With the new herbal medicine i purchase from totalcureherbalfoundation@gmail.com or totalcureherbalfoundation.blogspot.com was my only way to get fast relief from this PD,their herbal supplement effectively reverse my Parkinson's disease condition and alleviate all my symptoms.

    STDs They are considered a disease. They are preventable by making choices to protect and stay smart. Addiction could also classify under a "preventable disease." They are both diseases that a person's actions are what cause them to have the disease.

      What about babies born addicted to opioids? Or kids being prescribed heavy meds at a very young age? Sure, nobody held a loaded gun to my head, but I trusted a quack as a young teen and got addicted that way. So much for "my fault".

    If you wanna call addiction a disease, feel free. Science has proven that it is. But if you weren't born addicted to drugs or if a stranger didn't randomly inject you with heroin, it's 100% your fault and you don't deserve pity. Whoever made this video should have to play it for a cancer ward and see what they think about it.

  • @JEB276

    I see so much stigma being perpetuated in the comments. Addiction is a disease. Period. "Taking drugs is a choice". Often we observe that people begin taking drugs in order to alleviate the suffering associated with another mental illness. This leads to comorbidity. Also, regions of the brain responsible for judgment and reasoning (mostly PFC) is not as active in people genetically more prone to addiction and mental illnesses as others. Addiction operates on the dopamine reward circuit and floods synapses with dopamine. To keep it simple and short this neurobiological process leads to the development of repetitive behaviors, aka addiction. I also see a lot of "if you saw how so and so treats me then you would stop making these commercials". Well, unfortunately addiction is a psychiatric disease. Aka it alters behaviors. So perhaps if we stop stigmatizing this disease, your loved one can feel comfortable enough to seek the help they need and thus their behavior will become normal again. Drugs alter behavior. Learn your neurobiology before you demonize and dismiss scientifically supported FACT.

    Why would you rob a person of their personal autonomy and self-efficacy by telling them they are just as helpless as if they had cancer? Addiction is not cancer. A large percentage addicts recover on their own simply because they believe that they can. The same cannot be said about cancer.

    • @arnovanniem6936
      @arnovanniem6936 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A large percentage of cancer patients recover too. The addicts that recovered didn't because of a belief. They just got lucky their brains recovered due to neuroplasticity.

    I don't understand the point of this ad... who the hell gets angry at someone for having a physical illness? Is this really a thing or are you just grasping at straws here... EDIT: Oh this is about promoting empathy to addicts? A physical illness and addiction are two different things... An addict can make choices and take steps to get better. Someone with Parkinson's CANNOT... wtf.

  • @sean907

    This ad for StopTheShame.info takes an abrupt approach. As a mother’s hands shake as she attempts to pour salad onto her children’s plates, the children begin yelling at her for having Parkinson’s and accuse her shakes of being “embarrassing.” Children yelling at their mother for having Parkinson’s disease isn’t something anyone would fathom; however, this ad attempts to parallel the way individuals suffering from addiction are treated and connects those treatments to individuals with different types of medical diseases. The ad creates a frame of reference that yelling at someone with a disease is considered unacceptable, which we all know. When we see a daughter yelling at her mother exclaiming, “it is us or the Parkinsons” we are struck that such an ultimatum would be given considering the mother’s disease but these arguments are given to those battling addiction frequently. Addressing the lagging belief by many that addiction is indeed a disease, this ad sinks deep to help viewers draw those parallels. Although it is abrupt and relatively dark, some may even say it is trivializing serious medical diseases, the ad itself is effective at emotionally connecting with viewers to help change their paradigms regarding addiction.

There is huge signs that there is a life threatening problem. It doesn’t just rear it’s head, families and friends ignored it. Nor do they know how to properly handle it.

      Nebzz if you knew the first thing about addiction u would realize that it is not just a choice u make to have fun. It is an overwhelming compulsion that is rooted all the way at the instinctual dopamine/reward system that is required by all animals for survival. Imagine having to fight the urge to eat and drink? Willpower is irrelevant when the compulsion comes from the most basic survival mechanisms. Your brain literally thinks you will DIE without it. Animals are capable of tremendous feets to survive including chewing off their leg to escape a trap. Its like that only your brain is telling you that you need a drug. You have no fuckin clue what youre talking about

      +muffinman5423 Most people don't take the kind of drugs that land you in hospital frequently (heroin, or other opiods for example) because they want to "fit in", you don't have a clue...it's a systemic problem, poverty, mental health issues, a way of just once wanting to feeling okay with your life, it's insidious, drug problems are avoided when people can access the tools to a happy life, anyone can be prone when mental health issues go unseen and untreated, when jobs are scarce, when you feel your life has no value.

    • @muffinman5423
      @muffinman5423 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drug problems are avoided when you choose not to take drugs. I'm not saying addicts should get/seek help. I have sympathy for them. I've know addicts, but I will not give them the same sympathy I would give a cancer patient. Poverty, job scarcity, the "system", and "wanting to feel okay with your life" don't force you into abusing drugs. Thats a personal choice.

    • @muffinman5423
      @muffinman5423 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      "People use drugs to self medicate their issues" I never said I don't think people did that. I'm saying that it's still a choice, unlike cancer. You are really hung up on the "fit in" line. "Why do people abuse drugs" - to see how it feels to be high, to escape their problems, to fit in, they think it's cool, because they like it, to self medicate [like you mentioned] because they are weak to pressure, because they ignored all the warning, and many many more reasons. It still comes down to a personal choice unlike cancer. "Offer me something of worth seeing as you're so quick to say i'm wrong in my view." I've offered/stated my opinion just like you have to me. Our opinions have worthy in and of themselves. One of the fist things you said to me was "you have no clue". You were quick to say I was wrong also. Do you believe that no one has tried hard drugs to fit in or look cool? Do you think people don't choose to start using drugs? Is it out of their control?

    This is a sadly much-maligned let alone underreported issue in the US today. There are mobile morgues being filled up now in Akron Ohio to cope with the alarming opioid-related deaths. Thanks for tackling this subject. It's time the politicians and lawmakers began holding doctors far more accountable in the prescription phase as well as secure the critical funding - from the manufacturers if need be- for national care/treatment centers and personal to help deal with this out of control epidemic. There needs also to be national teacher school conference (to start with) to discuss opioid awareness education followed by funding once more to implement the findings into school programs. The ER personal and first responders can't cope; families and relatives affected can't cope yet those profiting from the industry appear to be doing just fine!! www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/oh-stark/stark-county-coroners-office-uses-temporary-mobile-morgue-to-store-overflow-of-bodies

      What????

    • @Aman-hg6jq
      @Aman-hg6jq 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lets imagine the user cannot prevent the choice from happening. Environmental pressures, psychological problems, over administration of drugs from the clinic etc. The user will develop a tolerance before the addiction. Tolerance is the decreased effect of a drug that develops with continued use. The first time you take that drug, you get the normal high and then the come-down. However, after continual administration of the same drug, larger doses are required to produce the same desired response. You tend to create this connection between the high and the drug. So you can have either physical dependence ( FirstCallKansasCity calls it physiological dependence) where the taker has adverse physical symptoms and signs that result from the withdrawal of the drug. Or you can have psychological dependence. This is more complex where the drug affects the REWARD system of the brain. Again the user associates pleasurable sensations with the drug causing the user to continue taking it. A patient could have tolerance to the drug, where they dont respond to the drug anymore, which is normal. Addiction is a maladaptive state.

      I think your cause is noble. Addicts need more sympathy. It's a vicious cycle that I've been in. But your video makes it look like addicts are powerless. Addicts feel powerless... There treated me and my family terribly, and they suffered the consequences of those actions, but being honest about what addiction is and isn't despite the actions it might cause people to do is one of the most effective ways of helping cure this epidemic. You can respond to peoples actions, but you have to be able to separate the medical aspect of the disease from those actions.

      steve rausch hey bro, I know you're smart enough to know this, but I'm still going to say it. don't even think about drinking a drop of liquor because you can also become addicte. alcoholism unfortunately can run in the family so stay away from it as far as you can. ✌

      @John Y. This was how I lived my life as a young adult, but around 22 I started drinking occasionally. I'm always on the lookout for warning signs of being an alcoholic. I only drink every other weekend or so now. Plan on keeping it that way. I've realized that when I'm sober I generally want to stay sober. That's not to say I don't enjoy drinking, but it isn't something I crave. Thanks for the kind advice though.
