The Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College engages with students, general audiences, graduate students, and scholars in a dialogue about Civil War history through an interdisciplinary approach dedicated to public interpretation, historic preservation, public policy, teaching, and academic research. CWI uses its resources to educate Gettysburg College students about a range of professional careers related to the study of history. CWI also offers an annual summer conference composed of a scholarly faculty and directed to a broad public audience and facilitates a range of educational programming, including lectures, exhibits, and select performances - including the annual Fortenbaugh Lecture - for Gettysburg College and the surrounding community.
