indeed you need to git gud. demons are partly immaterial, so they can save against any damage. all bloodseekers are ungodly beasts in melee, assaults can't even compete. only thing to do : divide and conquer : bulk up in a corner, wait the big ones out and nuke em, while assaults wait behind rocks on the right for the canons and then evade melee units, luring them back to your main force. And yes, daemons are cheated.

Note that minelayers only lay mines while at war. So, you can save by only having them in places you think your current enemy might attack.

I find the friendly AI accounts for ships within a group, but not for ships in other groups. ISo, I avoid having a million small groups like you were using here. Put all of the destroyers in 2-3 groups. If you think they're too long, change them into a different formation. Don't leave TBs on "Loose" because they're too far apart when making torpedo runs. I never really understood why they had so much trouble with getting the AI to recognize and react to other ships when other games do it very well, but it is what it is.

IMO the main reason to go for 9" cannons at the start is to aim to upgrade them to Mark 2 ASAP (since Mark 2 9" come up first). Otherwise, I go for 10"+. Mark 2s have better accuracy. It's also a free upgrade in this game, since it doesn't consider it replacing the turret or the barrels. You just have to pay the base refit cost, with no money or time added on.

If you don't have them already, Nose Fuse shells with Guncotton would be very helpful for your 2" destroyer guns, as well as other things. Getting 2" Mark 2 would be helpful as well.

I must say, I've seen many, many battles in UAD. This was the absolute biggest cluster fuck of a battle but also the most entertaining battle I've seen
