The Salmon Homestead
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 29 มี.ค. 2020
In 2014, as a 5th & 6th grade teacher, I thought it would be a chance of a lifetime to travel from my home in WI to Bristol Bay, Alaska to work on a commercial salmon fishing boat for my cousin/Captain, Phil. With the idea of teaching my classroom ALL about the world's largest sockeye salmon run on the planet in the fall, I listened and learned as much as I possibly could! I also learned that I really enjoyed the work and the Alaska fishing industry! I continue to travel each Summer to Alaska. In 2019 our family began to sell our Salmon here in WI through delivery and at local farm markets. I have pivoted from teaching a classroom to homeschooling our children, homesteading, while still working a day job. We recently purchased our family's future 20-acre homestead, which we are developing from a corn field to our forever homestead. We work hard and play hard with our goals in order.... God, Family, & Work
On Boat With The Crew/Fishing Alaska
I've finally made the journey from Appleton WI to my cousin/Captain Phil's JET Boat, yes.......that's right....he made it a jet boat, so we're the fast guys this year. The crew is back together and it's time to get in sync with each other as we fish the LARGEST SOCKEYE SALMON run on the planet. Bristol Bay, Naknek, ALASKA

We're not fishing ALASKA today, Guys. We're taking a little family time to explore all Hawaii has to offer. The waters and surroundings are VERY different from ALASKA, where our videos are mostly filmed. We hoped you enjoy a little tropical break with lots of aquatics, cool boats, and beautiful waters. #travel #hawaii #fish #adventure

Wow, I've never seen those fruits before
I’m amazed at how fresh everything looks.
I just seen a boat leaving here yesterday from Port Townsend, Washington going to Alaska fishing for salmon
Dude, you need to get some stitches in your finger cause that’s not looking good at all. Better not get infected.
I just started following you and are there boats there from Port Townsend Washington
We didn't have RSW in cordova and did have to add additional cleats to hold the bags in place both for empty or full.
Классный станок
The ladder same climb differient location in Cordova. Our boat did one bag at a time in PWS
I haven't been to Egegik since 1975. Interesting to see that those old amphibious vehicles at 3:28 are still sitting there. Some memories come right back.
You definitely deserve more subscribers.
Your videos are making me excited for the 24 season
Is there not a brake on your drum? Seems like you’re not gonna avoid back lash that way.
There is a hydraulic breaking system to slow the reel and stop if needed. It's not instant. You also slow down and hand break at the same time
Pick the fish, make a set, THEN bleed. Kinda fucks with my OCD seeing you stop picking while the net is coming in.
How can someone brand new get on one of these boats to fish and gain the experience. Maybe learn the trade before getting his own boat to fish
Hi Abraham, It was great to have you aboard the ALEUTIAN EXPRESS. I was pleasantly surprised to see your video while showing friends some of my own. The salmon industry is in chaos right now. I got word that Copper River needed to cut 2 tenders due to the global prices and competition from a couple new floaters coming online. I'll be buying fish in Chignik this summer. All the best in your 2024 season! Safe travels and good fishing to you!
So happy you saw this! It was such an awesome experience seeing and hearing what all went into it. My family here in WI were amazed at the care and craftsmanship you put into the boat….it was also amazing to read the history of the boat when I returned as well! After last years prices and also us pivoting away from the in laws flower shop, I was hired last August by Drexel Truss here in Wrightstown WI. I currently make trusses 10pm-6am during the week along with the farming in the early morning. so for this Salmon Season, I will be up for 16 days only over the Fourth of July. Really hoping to get some great content for the channel, bring back some awesome fish to sell here, and help Phil as much as possible….yes, pricing is just a mess. Unbelievable. Can’t believe Copper River is cutting 2 tenders. Craziness right now. God bless you and thanks again for the tour!
Wow, John! You've put lots of work into the lady. Safe sailing!
Man, that sucks. This last year was my first and luckily I didn't get any bad injuries
looks kinda shallow where you're tied up
gotta luv it when the heater goes tits up
Lol. Yeah. Not the best environment..
More people need to see this video. Very cool
Thanks so much for watching!
No my state doesn't allow it
Fishing yes, crabbing yes (if it is not a crab working boat on the Bering Sea)
fishing boat yes crabbing no not anymore too old too fat.. I'm an over the road trucker I have spent 197 days straight away from what I used to call home now the truck is my everything
I don’t eat a lot of fish but I thinks it’s admirable that you help conserve and sustain the fishes environment as you harvest from it! Keep it up!
Thanks so much! I Appreciate you taking time to say that and encourage us. Thanks again!
I don't eat salmon, but I appreciate everyone supplying quality food!❤
Right on! It's so very important to be connected to our food and know where it comes from. Thanks for sharing!
We are going to need a direct market this year it seems
Used to Halibut fish when I was stationed out on Adak Island. Some real brutes out that way...
Thank you for sharing that! We’ve met others who have spent time up in Alaska in service too. I’m sure that would of been quite an experience! Thanks again for watching!
Meth drops lol
Funny!
😅 I normally work 110 to 150 hours a week on call 24/7 6 months out of the year how I deal with it is a cigar Rockstar drinks and a good beat on the radio
Thanks for sharing that, man! Ya, good beat on the radio….had my first really good cigar at a salmon delivery this year. It was a game changer, I had no idea the difference. Take care.
Damn Ive caught ones about that size here in S California !! thought they were giant up there. Also what do you dry dock your boat when the tide goes down, looks like its in the mud !
Great question about the dry dock. We dry dock when we need to maybe work on the prop. Otherwise, when we're fishing those 6-8 weeks, we are living out on the water.... fishing when the periods are open to fish, repairing nets, eating, and sleeping out in Bristol Bay. We'll go in to dock and go dry when we transfer districts. Because at that time you need to sit out 48 hours of fishing. in this video the salmon season hasn't begin yet. Thanks so much for watching!
Hell yeah 👍
Your so happy 😊
Mama said they’d be days like this
I do love turtles. In a soup
lol! yes.
Beautiful scenery, thank you.
Thanks for spending some time with us! Appreciate it.
Awesome scenery
Thanks for watching!
Good to see beluga my favourite animal. Salmon my favourite fish, they farm Atlantic down here in Tasmania. Hope you found fish, all the best for the new year.
Happy New Year!
