Welcome to the Wood! That tall bird that looks grayish is a Blue Heron. I named him Grumpy because he stands on the end of the boat launch every morning and when people start arriving and walk down the boat launch he takes off does a circle and then flies real low over them & screams like a pterodactyl you would hear in a dinosaur movie. There’s black and white Heron’s there too. I worked there in the 90’s when I was a single father and now I work there again. I stay year round, most employees don’t, they’re laid off for the winter with the option to come back each summer. We trade employees with Mountain High Ski resort. People work here in the summer and then go work Mt. High when our season ends. But Silverwood is cold enough for me so I stay. I run the store some days, the dock others. Cleghorn Beach is where they stock trout now, no longer doing it at the boat launch, Cleghorn is the first left right after you go through the entrance booth. We are due for a stock because they haven’t stocked since November 19. Might be able to find stock week on department of water resources site but it will only tell you the week of, so everybody doesn’t show up and catch them the day of. And we now get nice trout! 5000 pounds of huge Mt. Lassen trout that the stripper can’t eat due to size so they stay in the lake longer and roam. All other species come in naturally through aqueduct. Fun Fact the town of Cedar Springs, California is still standing under water. State bought properties and filled it with water without knocking down buildings. L.A. needed more water so they made it reservoir. - -Crappie & Bluegill caught from dock ($3 wristband dock pass available at Beach Store) or close to dock, from shore or Kayak. Last time I was in Miller Canyon I went to the silver unmanned dock at Serrano Beach. (canyon to the right of the boat launch.) Got off the boat and could see the largemouth bass at the bottom but every time I drop my bait in a blue gill would shoot out from underneath the dock and get it before it could get to the largemouth bass. Stripper are all over but huge ones are by dam. It’s about 200 feet deep out there. Behind The Beach Store is an inlet creek and when I send people there they come in and tip me big and say they caught every type of fish in that spot. Catfish are every where, dock fishermen drop to bottom for them. There are hundreds of huge Shad usually in Miller Canyon that look like they’ve been wrapped in aluminum foil. They’ll run past the dock into Miller Canyon now and then and It makes all the dock fisherman run down the dock dragging their lure in front of the school 😂.

Hey Casey. Welcome back to AZ. I’m in Yuma for the winter. Live in Davis CA the rest of the year. It is my understanding if you’re in the Colorado River, anywhere, or a backwater or pond ‘connected’ to the River - either a CA or AZ fishing license is legal. I’ve been checked on the Colorado on the AZ side with my CA license and never had a problem. No idea about stuff on the Reservations. Sounds like they hit you up pretty good.

New to your channel, I am a Crit member and have lived here my whole life and never have I ever fished the preserve lol but there are other “ponds” on the reservation I would like to see you fish if you ever make it down this way again

I was on that boat, were in the deep part of the channel area, any further out we would have bottomed out. You shouldn't have been out in the Chanel with kayak. And by the way Pal we slow down... and we are not tweakers..

It took forever to build Delta Coves. Thought it would never happen. For many years it was all docks without houses like the ones you came up on. Some peckerwoods were even bold enough to steal a couple of the docks and tweakers stole the copper wiring out of the street lamps. Nice to see it finally built

Casey, all kidding aside, there are pirates on the delta! Not Capt hook type, but losers who come up on an unsuspecting guy and take his boat, gear, everything. Look into this, and ask around. By all means don’t be a victim out there.
