No one like Dyens
I feel the same as you.
It's a darn shame this Quintet only made 2 albums together before Clifford and Ritchie were killed in a car accident. The other album was Sonny Rollins Plus Four which is essentially a Clifford Brown/Max Roach album. It's equally as brilliant as "At Basin Street".
This is the one I have been looking for ! Thank you 🥰

I need a keyboard. You know when it sounds this good it aught to be easy but that's brilliantly performed music for you.
Jan 16, 1938, Carnegie Hall, New York - _“Blue Skies”_ - Irving Berlin (music & words) - Fletcher Henderson (arrangement) - Benny Goodman, clarinet, directing: Harry H. James, first trumpet; Harry A. (Finkelman) “Ziggy” Elman, Gordon “Chris” Griffin, trumpets; Vernon Brown, Sterling “Red” Ballard, trombones; Hymie Shertzer, first alto saxophone; George Koenig, alto saxophone; Irving “Babe” Russin, Arthur Rollini, tenor saxophones; Jess Stacy, piano; Allan Reuss, guitar; Harry Goodman, bass; Eugene B. “Gene” Krupa, drums. *"Blue Skies"* is a popular song, written by Irving Berlin in 1926. "Blue Skies" is one of many popular songs whose lyrics use a "bluebird of happiness" as a symbol of cheer: "Bluebirds singing a song/Nothing but bluebirds all day long." The sunny optimism of the lyrics is undercut by the minor key giving the words an ironic feeling. History The song was composed in 1926 as a last-minute addition to the Rodgers and Hart musical _Betsy._ Although the show ran for only 39 performances, "Blue Skies" was an instant success, with audiences on opening night demanding 24 encores of the piece from star Belle Baker. During the final repetition, Ms. Baker forgot her lyrics, prompting Berlin to sing them from his seat in the front row. In 1927, the music was published and Ben Selvin's recorded version (as The Knickerbockers with vocals by Charles Kaley) was a hit. That same year, it became one of the first songs to be featured in a talkie, when Al Jolson performed it in _The Jazz Singer._ The song was recorded for all of the major and dime store labels of the time. A version was recorded by *Benny Goodman and his Orchestra in 1935* (Victor 25136). 1946 was also a notable year for the song, with a Bing Crosby/Fred Astaire film taking its title along with two recorded versions by Count Basie and Benny Goodman reaching #8 and #9 on the pop charts, respectively. Thelonious Monk's 1947 composition "In Walked Bud" is based on the chord changes to "Blue Skies." Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye performed the song in the 1954 seasonally perennial film, _White Christmas._ In 1958, Ella Fitzgerald crossed genres putting her own distinctive scat jazz stylings on "Blue Skies" for her double-LP album, _Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Irving Berlin Song Book,_ that year's installment in her famous eight-album _Song Book_ series. The track was also included in that year's Ella compilation album, Get Happy!. In 1962 the song was released as a single by Johnny Rivers. The song was featured in Ann Marie Fleming's 2002 short film _Blue Skies,_ performed by Alessandro Juliani. The song was featured prominently in the film _Star Trek: Nemesis,_ as sung by Lieutenant Commander Data during Commander William T. Riker and Counselor Deanna Troi's wedding at the start of the film. It is sung again at the very end of the film by his "brother," the android B-4, during the final scene set in the 24th century, a time period not revisited by the Star Trek franchise for another 18 years, until the release of _Star Trek: Picard_ in 2020. The song "Blue Skies" is featured in that series' premiere episode during a dream sequence involving Data and Captain Picard. The song receives a cover by lead actress Isa Briones for the 10th episode when Data's "spirit" dies. *FLETCHER HENDERSON'S arrangement of "Blue Skies"* The classic 1935 Goodman recording of “Blue Skies,” in a Fletcher Henderson arrangement, is indelibly stamped with the mark of Bunny Berigan, both as a dynamic first trumpeter and as a perceptive, dramatic soloist whose playing so perfectly captures and enhances the mood of Henderson’s arrangement. Henderson’s arrangement, which is in the key of B-minor, came into the Goodman band book in early 1935 while BG made the most of a weekly allowance for arrangements which was a part of the consideration for him appearing on the NBC Let’s Dance series of radio shows. It is a wonderful example of Henderson’s way of memorably refashioning a familiar melody, using the basic musical tools of swing, some of which he invented and/or perfected in his own band in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Henderson’s ascending introduction, which has always struck me as rather eerie, has the reed players, including BG, playing a counterline on their clarinets to a small brass fanfare. As Fletcher later explained, this was the storm before the arrival of the blue skies. The first and second expositions of the eight-bar main melody in the first chorus has Henderson using the clipped syncopated open brass, led brilliantly by Berigan, against an uncluttered 2/4 rhythm. It is as though a lapidary has has spread colorful precious stones on white velvet to be inspected and appreciated. The song’s secondary eight-bar melody or bridge is begun by the saxophones, led by Toots Mondello, But Henderson uses this instrumental color, which is a contrast to the first sixteen bars, for only four bars. He then allocates the last four bars of the bridge to a melodic trombone solo played by Jack Lacey against a mellow, humming saxophone background. Arthur Rollini in the Goodman band - 1937. Rollini was a stalwart Goodman sideman from 1934 to 1939. Then Henderson brings the saxophones back to play a transitional passage into the second chorus, which begins with the brass, now in straight mutes, for eight bars. Henderson’s use of antiphony - the reeds and brass in a musical conversation, is also one of his quintessential arranging touches. Tenor saxophonist Arthur Rollini, a master technician, then plays a lovely, fluid 16-bar improvisation. A four note ensemble transition opens the way for Berigan’s 16 bar trumpet solo. His improvisation here is one of his most inspired. It is a complete abstraction of the musical materials that make up “Blue Skies,” and it immediately evokes disquiet: there are dark clouds in Berigan’s blue sky. What Bunny plays is so fraught with emotion that one is barely aware of the churning saxophones and repeated cymbal splashes going on behind his solo. And it is all delivered with Berigan’s heroic tone and relaxed swing. Bunny immediately reverts to leading the brass after his solo, as they play chains of syncopation against the melodic saxophones. The brass then play a rhythmic sequence which leads into Benny Goodman’s two clarinet solos, which are separated by riffs played by the ensemble with Berigan’s ringing trumpet on top. The saxophones carry the melody in the next phase, once again juxtaposed with the syncopated brass. The bright finale has the two trombones outlining the melody against the bouncing trumpets. Fletcher Henderson’s arrangement on “Blue Skies” is a perfectly paced and contrast filled piece of music that is immaculately performed by the Goodman band. In 1935, the magic mixture of Benny Goodman’s band playing Fletcher Henderson’s arrangements was new and terrifically exciting and attractive to the young people who were slowly becoming aware of what jazz and swing were. Berigan’s role in making this performance of “Blue Skies” explode with vitality as both first trumpeter and jazz soloist is huge.

Thanks God, this is honest and evergreen jazz !
Lovely
This album, Hikari Ichihara's 3rd album, was released on January 24, 2007 at PGE, New York. The band members are Adam Birnbaum (3), who loves "The Whisper" and "Adelime", George Mraz (2), who is known for his support of Oscar Peterson, Tommy Flanagan, Hank Jones, etc., and MJQ. Pactor Lewis (da), Penn Riley, Tom Harrell's members, Wayne Escoffery (ix), Chaka Khan, Richard Pona, Aaron Haick (ox) All the members of the Jodaikai did this. Two songs (5, S) are Hikari's original songs, and the remaining seven songs are all famous songs that Imo knows. Hikari is arranging the whole house. It gives a new light to each master with an extraordinary feeling. The result of the album is that ``Hikari takes on new challenges, but her feet are firmly placed in the place of being a jazz legend.'' It's an album of indescribable sounds that will instantly draw you in.
ジャケットの写真はもちろん本人ですよね。 現代の女性をモデルに当時の雰囲気を出して撮ったと言われてもおかしくない。
Yet another example of pure majic beyond description. Magnificent!
I’m pretty sure this is the same sone, Ella just put herself fully into it!
Great choice, thanks!!

milet?
Lieber Mario Marcassa, Was ist das für ein Stück ? Soll das eine neue Version von dem berühmten Stück von George Gershwin sein ???. Nicht zu erkennen, tut mir leid.
Some play it right and some it wrong
Played w the correct and disciplined restraint needed for a great jazz piano trio . Everyone works as a team . No one tries to outdo anyone else. Perfection!!
This is nice and cool, man. Well played...
Marvelous!
この曲を聴いたのは中学生の頃でした♪その頃ベルトケンプフェルトにハマりにハマっていました、、とても懐かしいです UPありがとうございます♪
Heard this on Boom Light yesterday. I'm hooked!!!
