This car deserves the title “performance”not only due to the numbers if accomplishes but also because it makes an amazing daily driver.

We have had this tree 3 years. Limited fruit production so far. 1 fruit this year. Takes 9-10 months to ripen. In my opinion it’s like a cross of a banana and an Has avocado in both texture and flavor. Slight grainy at skin like a pear but avocado smooth with similar mild nutty mixed with banana sweetness.

    Is the "ice cream" reference to the taste ke the texture of the banana? What are your favorite ways to use them after harvest

    • @SoCalTropicalgardener
      @SoCalTropicalgardener 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe it is the texture. While texture is nice it is a stretch to compare it to ice cream. Aside from eating out of hand we make banana chocolate chip bread, smoothies and I made bananas foster once which was amazing. 9/10 people I share these with prefer them over store bought.

    • @SoCalTropicalgardener
      @SoCalTropicalgardener 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good questions. I think it’s part of the building of excitement. I have suspicion they may have a buyer come to each Tesla Center today to pick one up. Ramping of these is slow. Most of the ones people see on the road are were “candidates.” Meaning not final production models. It’s not that there are many on the roads. The vehicle is so unique and anticipated that any sighting gets a lot of attention. Mostly likely there are only a few dozen at most that have been produced so far. Hopefully a lot details will be available with the official deliveries today.

    • @SoCalTropicalgardener
      @SoCalTropicalgardener 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! Once a banana tree fruits it no longer grows and will die. The banana bunch does hang down and tends to pull the tree to one side. Sometimes it’s low enough to use a step stool to cut the bananas off. Sometimes I cut a few hands off at a time, more often I cut the whole bunch off. That said, most of the time I cut the whole bunch and then cut the tree down. Thanks for the question as I now know the next video I need to make.

    As someone born & bred with bananas as part of my culture I would say pretty good review. The new coiled banana leaf is cut off at the base of the shoot & used as a plate South-South East Asia. A banana plant will die if the stem hits a core temperature of under 0°C. The moment a frost kicks in the leaves will automatically die as well. The green bananas can be curried, fried etc. They must be boiled first. Some people even cook the flower into a curry. The milk of the stems will stain your clothes with a brown colour. The variety you have is the tallest I've seen. Greetings from a wet Auckland where it always rains. 😂

      My wife has cooked the flower and it was quite delicious. She has friend who from time to time take our flowers to eat. The staining from the bananas can also stain concrete for a time. Agree it is a brownish red color. Can look like an old blood stain.

      It’s interesting because to my knowledge there hasn’t been any frost forecasted here and I don’t think the temp went below 38 F. However, these palm seem more vulnerable than any other palms I have to cool air. They start getting small brown spots on leaflets that coalesce over time and the frond dies. So far the plants have survived a few winters but I am afraid I’ll have a winter into the 28 F one year and I’ll loose them. I will definitely plan ahead to cover them and maybe even use a space heater to keep them alive.

    • @SoCalTropicalgardener

      I think Santa Ana and Del Mar are zone 10b while I’m zone 10a . Not to say I couldn’t do it but it might be difficult if we had a cold winter. Especially if the tree got to a decent size. I have a flame thrower palm but it’s less than 4 feet tall so protecting it is reasonably easy.
