Tiny Vice Restoration | Vintage Antique Tools | Old Town Fabrication & Design |
มุมมอง 7383 ปีที่แล้ว
A couple of weeks ago I restored a big blacksmiths leg vice, so it only seemed fitting that I also restore my smallest vice. It's a Paramo No. 00, with 2 1/4" Jaws! I started by stripping it down into its individual components, and then got to work with the paint stripper. It needed several coats and lots of scrubbing with a wire brush to get all the original paint off it. After rinsing in wate...
Making Door Handles From Old Spanners and Bolts | Metalworking | Old Town Fabrication & Design |
มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I'll be making a pair of door handles using old spanners and bolts. I've had this bucket of rusty spanners and bolts for as long as I can remember. I picked out a couple of spanners that were about the same size, and 4 bolts to match. After cleaning them up with a wire wheel on the angle grinder I grabbed a piece of wood to use as the backer board, got it cut into two equal length...
Rusty Leg Vice Restoration | Metal Working | Old Town Fabrication & Design |
มุมมอง 3.9K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I'll be restoring this vintage blacksmiths leg vice (I'm from England so its a vice, not a vise). It started out very rusty, but underneath that rust there is still a very solid and useable vice. After disassembly I hit the whole thing with a wire brush on the angle grinder, and then covered it all in beeswax to prevent any more rust. The handle was obviously not original and had ...
Simple Solid 8x4 Workbench | Woodworking Workshop Projects | Old Town Fabrication & Design |
มุมมอง 3.7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I'll be making a simple 8x4 workbench. Almost all of the construction for this bench uses 18mm MDF. It's a simple design, utilising a torsion box for both the top and shelf underneath. This ensures the bench will remain strong and flat over time. The top has 2 layers of MDF on it, the bottom layer is permanently glued to the torsion box, while the other is just screwed down, makin...
How To Make A Marking Knife | Beginner Knife Making | Blacksmithing | Old Town Fabrication & Design
มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I'll be making a marking knife. If you're new to blacksmithing (like I am!) then this is a great first project to take on. It can easily be accomplished in a day and requires very basic tools. I upload content on a weekly basis so please like, share, subscribe, and leave a comment if you like what you see. Easy (and free!) DIY Wood Glue Bottle | Wookworking Hacks & Tips | Old Town Fabrication & Design |
มุมมอง 1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This is one of my favourite workshop hacks. Simply cut a hole in the top of a coke bottle, hot glue a silicone nozzle in there, screw it onto a washing up liquid bottle and you've got yourself a pretty darn good glue bottle! A normal 330ml coke bottle will work, but I've found it's easier to control how much glue comes out with a washing up liquid bottle. Easy peasy glue bottle squeezy! Please ...
How to Make Mini Containers From Brazed Copper Pipe | Old Town Fabrication And Design
มุมมอง 1.8K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I’ll be making a small container from copper pipe. I wanted to try my hand at brazing some copper, so I decided to make a small canister that can hold the drill bits I keep in my tool box when I’m away from the workshop. Massive shout out to Habu for the inspiration on the locking mechanism for the lid. Go check out his channel here th-cam.com/channels/GLSZj7A1T93IQ3t3cbcXDg.html ...
DIY Canvas Tool/Chisel Roll with Built In Leather Strop | Old Town Fabrication & Design
มุมมอง 24K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I'll be making a tool roll to hold my chisels. I do quite a lot of work away from my workshop so having a way to transport my chisels without the edges getting damaged is quite important. I decided to make a tool roll with a built in strop, space for a diamond sharpening stone and some mineral oil - everything I need to keep my chisels sharp. Diamond stones work better with water,...
How To Make a GIANT Deck Chair/Beach Chair | Woodworking Projects | Old Town Fabrication & Design
มุมมอง 3.6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I'll be making a giant deck chair/beach chair. I started by cutting all my pieces of timber to length. For this build I'm using 2x4 CLS. Make sure to pick out the straightest and cleanest ones you can when you buy them. After cutting to length I added a heavy round-over to all the edges, and then created a jig to cut the mortises for the horizontal pieces using a pattern bit in a ...
How To Make a Light Up Box Sign with LEDs | Woodworking Projects | Old Town Fabrication & Design
มุมมอง 7714 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I’ll be making an LED light up box sign. I started by planing down my material to the correct thickness, before cutting the pieces to rough length ready to cut the miters on the table saw. This is the first time I’ve cut 45 degree miters at this length so I was a little apprehensive about it, but I took my time setting up a table saw sled as accurately as I could, and I couldn’t b...
FENCE UPGRADE for Dewalt DW745/DWE7485 Table Saw | Workshop Projects | Old Town Fabrication & Design
มุมมอง 161K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I'll be making a fence upgrade for a Dewalt DW745 Table saw. The Dewalt DW745 contractors table saw is a very capable machine, and one of my most used tools in the workshop. My only complaint about it is the length of the fence. I have always wanted more infeed and outfeed, especially when cutting longer lengths of timber and sheet materials. I designed this fence to be removable ...
DEWALT DW745 Zero Clearance Insert CORIAN Upgrade | Old Town Fabrication & Design Workshop Projects
มุมมอง 15K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I’ll be making a Corian zero clearance throat plate insert for the Dewalt DW745 Table saw. I started by cutting the Corian pieces to width, and then shaping the ends to get a perfect fit. I kept the first one as a template, this way I can use a flush trim bit to shape the others. This will speed up making more inserts in the future. After shaping I drilled a large hole to help rem...
How To Make DIY Cornhole Boards | Old Town Fabrication & Design
มุมมอง 2.1K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I’ll be making a set of custom cornhole (baggo) boards. Traditionally you would use 12mm plywood for the top surface, but as the whole world is in lockdown right now I had to make use of what I had, so I used 18mm MDF instead. You can get both boards from one 8x4 sheet, making it a very cheap project to build, and although I used a lot of different tools to make them, you can do i...
Dog Bowl Planter | A Garden For My Dogs Bowl | #BuildAtHome | Old Town Fabrication & Design
มุมมอง 2.6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Sam from the channel DIY Huntress (link below) recently started the #BuildAtHome hashtag. The challenge being to make something from home using only left over materials. I decided to make a garden for my dogs bowl. His name is jack. I love him, but he’s not the tidiest when it comes to having a drink! I figure its a win-win situation. I'm terrible at keeping plants alive, so maybe jack can do i...

I wonder is that construction adding too much weight on the fence so it affects mechanism to bent over time especially if cutting wider sheets?

Is there any way to make that heavier? 45lbs might be a bit too light for the flimsy R&P system they use.😂😂

Starboard or melamine would be great as the surface is slick and materials would slide through much easier. Great concept!

So I know this is a few years old, but I'm just seeing it for the first time and wonder if you had any issue with the weight of the additional fence when extended past the table? Any sag or bending? Or did you specifically make for work that would be close to the blade?

Hello Sir. I love your presentation. I have a Dewalt table saw that the surface is 19 X 19 what do you suggest the available working space to be excluding the thickness of the fences ? I appreciate your input.

Your video is very informative and well presented. I have one question. Your arrangement appears to be rather heavy because of the thickness of the material used and because of the sizes involved. Could you please advise whether you have encountered any problems with this design. Thank you in advance for your response.

Looks like I'm a bit late to this party 🥳 and I've a QUESTION: On the non-blade side of the fence, the plastic housing for the lockdown mechanism actually has this little shoulder-like shape -- did you notch the underside of your fence so that it mates flush with the DW fence, or...?

I have questions about why this or that and size or design but without words the video just leaves them unanswered. Call me old fashioned (or just old) but i expected a how to instructional that explained things, not just a watch me work while listening to repetitive music. I like idea of upgrading my Dewalt fence but what are advantages of your design and why can you not tell us about your thought process that led you to it. Thanks, I appreciate the effort, i hope to learn more next time.

Great build! I need to build something like this I have the same saw. Question, do you find the rack-and-pinion flexes downward under the weight of that MDF when extended out all the way?

    • @carterscustomrods
      @carterscustomrods 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

It most definitely will. The Rack & Pinion flexes under its own weight, so adding 10-15lbs of 3/4" MDF is really gonna cause issues if the fence is not supported throughout it's entire range of movement.
