I think you are fundamentally failing to understand the specific strategic decision they are making here. Destiny Rising is very obviously marketed towards Chinese markets, in an effort to expand into a fresh audience where they can find new, engaged players. You may not understand this, but the mobile gaming market is extremely rich in China, and this, joined by China's economic-political ascendancy and increasing international cultural relevance, marks a gaming turning point where its evident to the business owners that there must be a "pivot to Chinese markets" so to speak. You were never the intended audience, and the game will succeed with or without the Western audiences of "previous Destiny players." If they wanted to keep advertising to current players of Destiny 2, they would make Destiny 2 better. They're not doing this: they're making a unique game, with some similarities, but significant mechanical divergences, to be hosted on the gaming platform which essentially characterizes Chinese gaming. The success of this game has nothing to do with whether you or other Destiny 2 players or really any people in the Anglosphere enjoy it or care about it. It is, like many things, a demarcation point where the world markets are losing interest in the decaying American cultural hegemony and turning to the clear, new ascendant superpower: China.
