Basswood. I get mine from Heinecke Wood in Wisconsin. Good old family business, and I heard they recently had a fire, but still in operation! Highly recommend them! Check out their website

I'm saddened to hear that Bryan passed away in February 2019. Is anyone from Oshawa monitoring the channel?
Sadly, it appears Bryan lost his battle with cancer on February 24, 2019. Just thought I would pass along the sad news for those who haven't heard and may be waiting for a reply to a message.
That is very sad news! A great talent, and teacher, has been lost and will be missed. He will live on in these videos forever!!!
Just discovered his channel, and sad to hear this. God gives each of us a talent to do something really well, and we have the obligation to use those talents to help others. Bryan has succeeded in both of those, just as the Lord intended! RIP Bryan, and thanks for sharing your awesome talents with us!
@@tomt9543 I agree wholeheartedly Tom. I had the pleasure of communicating with him a couple times shortly before he passed away and he was a true gentleman who enjoyed passing his knowledge along to others.
I live in Pennsylvania, how can I get or buy the direction papers I see in the video?
Is there anyway to get the class note that you have in the video? I was able to get the pattern. but I really like your class notes.
Unfortunately Bryan lost his battle with cancer in February, 2019. :(
Condolences to family on his passing.. Too bad.. Lot of talent.
Thanks so much for your classes!! Learned so much!!
Would I be allowed to use your pattern?
Your the greatest instructor I have had the fortune to watch!! Thanks so much!!

Just came across your video today. Am very impressed by your style of instruction. Question; is there any chance of being emailed a copy of your hand out?
Great tutorial can I get a copy of the hand out hilljames844@gmail.com
I agree with everyone your the best on TH-cam, please post your info so we can purchase this class format template. Thanks,
Don: if you're looking for the pattern, you'll find it in Marv Kaisersatt's book 'Caricature Heads' along with instructions very similar to Bryan's. It is a great book! (Hope that helps.)
Hi, I bought the book Caricatrue Carving from Head to Toe today, I am a new carver and want to do the cowboy, I bought the book so I could follow you step by step, but to my disappointment the Cowboy pattern was not in the book. There is a cowboy i the book. but his hands and feet are different .. so I am at a loss. Where can I get the pattern you used? Thank you.
Good day - the pattern used is from Wood Carving Illustrated - Spring 2004 on page 93. It is a design by Phil Bishop. You most likely will be able to get it form them. Let me know how you make out - Bryan
@@oshawaseniorcitizenscarica652 I got the magazine, I had to order it from Fox Chapel. Thank you so much for the wonderful video.

Still searching for Marv K Book
Hi there, Marv's book is available from Chris Whillock at 507-339-0336 or woodcarverwarehouse.com in Faribault MN. Bryan
Very informative. Can't wait 2 carve it.Thaks 4 the lesson.
Hi there, thanks for the comment. It looks like you are going to get into carving some caricatures...I hope these training guides help. Have fun. Did you get Marv's book? Bryan
Hello, would you make make a copy of your pattern you are using . I would be very happy to buy a copy from you. Also what brand are your tools. we are just beginning . thank you.
Hello Cynthia, I teach in a class room setting and have made patterns from a book by Marv Kaisersatt - Caricature Heads Designing and Carving and is available from Chris Willock at 507-339-0336 or woodcarverwarehouse.com in Faribault MN. Mention my name to Chris (Bryan Middleton, just so he knows I am still on the green side - smile). Marv is a good friend of many years and his book is the very best I have ever seen for a carver. I use a several different manufacturers for my tools and I recommend that you buy the best tools you can afford. It is better to buy one good tool then five that you have to continually take the time to sharpen. Most of my tools are Stubai, Flexcut, and Swiss Made palm tools. All of these have beginner sets of 5-6 tools that will get you started on the right foot. Welcome to the wonderful world of carving, Bryan
Wish you would share a pattern to follow in doing a cut-out
Good evening Vaughn, I assume you were viewing the video on carving a caricature head. All the videos are taken during one of my teaching classes, so any handout for patterns are given out during the class. However all my videos are taken from books or patterns from well known carvers - I get their permission first. The 'head' one is from a good friend, Marv Kaisersatt. His book Caricature Heads Designing and Carving is available from Chris Willock at 507-339-0336 or woodcarverwarehouse.com in Faribault MN. It is the very best book I have ever seen for a carver.
Oshawa Senior Citizens Caricature Carving thanks
Hello again, I forgot to include my name. It is Bryan Middleton and if you contact Chris to enquired about Marv's book, please mention my name. Keep those chips flying.
Luvit!
Great video.Have you a book with this information?
Good day, I teach mostly from patterns designed by the Caricature Carvers of America. The 'head' is by Marv Kaisersatt who has long since been my mentor. I suggest you buy his book CARICATURE HEADS in Wood and on Paper - Designing and Carving. It is available from Chris Willock a 507-339-0336. Marv and his book is the best of the best. Mention my name to Chris. Have fun carving...Bryan
The best whittling tutorial I ever found in the net. Thank you very much for this very good video. I hope you are well and healthy again. Greetings from Germany.
Hello, thanks for you kind comments and greetings from Germany. I am still in a battle with a rare cancer, but now they are trying a new way - the infusion makes the immune system fight the cancer. Time will tell. Keep your tools sharp and your hand steady. Smile and have a great day. Bryan
pretty complex isn't it. a friend is working on a horse from an article in 2013 WOODCARVING illustrated but i don't have the issue, any help.
Hi there, without looking up in my old WCI books, I think it is the caricature old, beat up, horse by Gary Batte. We have carved may of his designs (with his permission). Buy his book "Carving Crazy Critters" published by Fox Chapel, the same publisher as WCI. There are 10 fully illustrated different animals. Have a great day, Bryan
Is your step by step instruction guide available for down load or purchase
Hi Scott, I am not sure as to how you might down load my programs. I have one of my students do all the video/TH-cam stuff. I am just an old computer dummy when it comes to this stuff. Have a great day, Bryan
