    I almost think that him being deaf is his advantage in the competition. He is more connected to his partner and her movements because he has to be! Because he's deaf. And he's not feeling the vibration of the music. It's about his connection to his partner more than anything. And obviously he's good at dancing too. Which seemed to help. Without the talent there isn't much to work with. He is such an inspiration. Makes me a little sad tho. My deaf uncle's were kicked out of school in 4th grade and never learned proper signing. We have always made up our own signs to communicate with them. And they didn't get treated very well after my grandmother put them in group homes. They could have done so much more! It breaks my heart a little. But nyle is such a beautiful human on the inside and out!

    This dance by these still gives me chills. It has to be the most symbolic of how a handicap , in any form, can be dealt with and won.

      And this wasn't the last time they dealt w/it.Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions) was on last year and she has Muscular Dystrophy or Lou Gehrig's.She had to bow out after a month.This was the only Nyle/Peta one I did but I'm going back over the season He was excellent.

    I wish the interpreter was not shown...We as interpreters should not be included. He is good at his job, but I think it takes away from Nyle with the camera being panned so wide.

      DC E I am also an ASL interpreter and I agree that the conversation should never be about us or have the focus on us. With that being said, the interpreter being in the frame also allows for Deaf viewers to watch the interview in ASL through the interpreter. Some Deaf viewers are fine with/prefer captions while others would prefer to see the interview interpreted in ASL. I also think this interview was facilitated perfectly. Even though the interpreter was in the frame and acknowledged by Ellen in the beginning when she said "Hi, how are you?" the focus was not kept on him, Ellen immediately turned to Nyle and spoke directly to him and looked at him when he was signing. I have watched other interviews with Nyle where the host looked directly at the interpreter the entire time and never looked at Nyle. Or the host introduced the interpreter as "Nyle's voice" or made a big deal about the interpretation process (even saying the interpreter should have his own talk show.🤦) I think Ellen did a wonderful job acknowledging the interpreter while keeping the focus on Nyle. 🙌👏👍 Again, while an interpreter should never be the focus, we can't deny the fact that we are not invisible (though sometimes we wish we were. 😂) I think that this interview is a beautiful example of how a clear/smooth interpretation should go. 🤟

    He has come along at the perfect time in our evolution as a society....he hasn't just overcome the challenges of dealing with a mostly "hearing" world, his warmth, drive and inner beauty have inspired every viewer to better themselves. I wish he would consider developing a sign language course and market it, I would definitely buy it. He strikes me as the kind of person that would take commercial success and use it to genuinely better the world. I only know him from watching him dance and seeing his videos on TH-cam, but he has brought so much joy into my life because he is such a decent person.

    • @codename9824
      @codename9824 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      rawwithnature_ if he were less attractive he wouldn't be nearly as effective at communicating and representing the deaf community. It is a biological truth that we are more likely to listen to a pretty face at least initially, so a pretty face with such a great message behind it is not a bad thing. People listen to pretty faces telling them dangerous bullshit like "vaccines cause autism" so at least he isn't advocating idiocy.

    • @ComeSandia
      @ComeSandia 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@codename9824 yes, totally yes, but lets be honest here, people do sexualize him way too much. if he was a she and men started saying things like that to "her", oof, that would be a problem. admiring someones beauty is a thing, oversexualizing them is a totally different one.
