20xPSKR on SWRadiogram, August 13, 2018
This is a 100% copy of a very fast amateur digital mode using 20 PSK carriers. It was sent over an AM transmitter, WRMI on 7730 kHz, and received in upper sideband mode. What's amazing here is how fast this mode is. It prints much faster than anyone can read it.
First the RSID is sent to change modes, then several lines of garbage appear before the transmission starts.
Decode is with Fldigi.

Mystery Time Pips on 6370 kHz
For some time now, beeps that sound like time signals have been showing up on HF. It started on the 30 meter amateur band, then it was on 40, now it's off by itself on 6 MHz. The current version is dead on UTC, although the remote SDR used here delays it from the locally generated time stamps.
Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum Signal on ~24 MHz
This mysterious spread-spectrum signal has been audible in Los Angeles on approximately 24010 kHz (center frequency) for several years now. It shows up on any receiver I tune to that frequency. The video shows the signal at different SDR bandwidths. Nothing else changes. It is also on 48 MHz, suggesting that it probably comes from an electronic device here in the shack.
Cuban "Numbers" (HM01) Broadcast, March 7, 2017
This is a screen dump of a portion of a scheduled "numbers" broadcast of messages for spies. It was received on a remote SDR in Idaho. Notice the huge signal that Havana gets into the northern US. It's annotated with the usual graphics telling what's going on.

16x64 Sounder Type Oddity
Ary Boender made a good recording of this enigmatic signal, which moves up HF with the same 16 bursts of 64 LFMCW sweeps at a declining rate. No one's sure exactly what it is, but it sure sounds like some kind of research transmission, possibly for ionospheric sounding. The first picture is a spectrogram of the whole transmission, then we get into the actual audio itself.
WHRI Sign-On
Nothing fancy here. It's just WHRI, USA, signing on at 1800 UTC, using (I think) 17530 kHz, which is not listed anywhere. It was a good signal despite some deep fades, and I liked the pretty pictures its music made.
Big Pulses Oddity, 7735 kHz
When this powerful transmitter is operating, it sends a regular schedule of modulated carriers, and a 10 pulse per second mode where the width varies continuously on a regular cycle. Its location seems to be Russia, though that's not certain, and it's heard worldwide. Its purpose is unknown. It doesn't fit any known radar type, and it's more likely to be some kind of ionospheric research. I've ...
Weird Pager Malfunction Heard on U. of Twente WebSDR
The WebSDR is on a university campus in the Netherlands. A very loud pager has been on around 27 MHz since day one. However, it just started turning its carrier on and off once per second, and did this for at least two days. The click on "make" was especially strong, and covered several MHz. Update 2018: The pager, with its many overloading spurs all over the WebSDR, and its various weird failu...
IARU HF Championship Eats 40 Meters
This is the WebSDR in the Netherlands during the IARU HF Championship contest which is held every July. It's late night there, and the contest has almost completely taken over 40 meters. Here in the western US, 40 was almost dead.
WWV Leap Second, June 30/ July 1, 2015
At the end of the June 30, 2015 UTC day, an extra second was added to the WWV stream in compliance with world standard bodies calling for a positive leap second to bring UTC into closer sync to other universal time scales. This would have been uploaded on the first, except that it kept giving weird error messages at start of processing.

This HF radar has been identified (thank you, Token) as the Russian 29B6 system. It was completely blasting out the WebSDR at the U. of Twente, Netherlands, spreading noise over just about the whole 20 meter amateur band. This was not the first time, and unfortunately it probably won't be the last. The modulation is FMOP (Frequency Modulation On Pulse). While it looks superficially like the wat...
7000 kHz Sweeper Oddity
This unknown station sweeps a tone up and down with a center right on 7 MHz, the bottom of the 40 meter amateur band. Here are several screen dumps from the University of Twente WebSDR in the Netherlands. This is a tiny image so that's why the video quality is so bad.
HF Stepping Tone Oddity
This station sends an audio tone lasting ~6 seconds, with some kind of 200-Hz modulation. The tone is sent sequentially on ascending frequencies across the HF band. The period for a full cycle is around 80 seconds. This suggests that more frequencies still need to be discovered. The video is a screen shot of Spectrum Lab, with 1-second pips along the bottom of the plot. It was produced by manua...

Different ionosondes do different things, but none of them do this. They jump frequencies and buzz, or sweep up the whole band, or go tick tick tick like SuperDARN. It's not HAARP, since squiggles have been around since way before the thing was built. Also, the HAARP schedule is public now, so it's easy to eliminate. Also it just doesn't transmit unless a research campaign is underway, which is a couple of times a year max. The things that drift continuously around and stop on a frequency loud enough to wipe it out are typically consumer electronics. Usually close by, not propagated. Squiggles are intermittent and cyclic, at semi-regular intervals. They are characterized by a woozy oscillator drifting downwards, then stopping on a freq and going away after a couple of seconds. Common on 10 meters, when it's open, but I've heard them as low as 20 meters. RF heating/welding/gluing is still the best guess. -hugh

Yes hear them often. More readily on my single conversion receivers. And they seem to follow my listening habits. Mostly they just pass thrugh my spot on the dial. Or stop to listen if I've got some good DX. A real nuance when trying to get a report in cw. As I adjust to get better signal they slide in closer. The whing is awful. Equals a lost QSO. ( Hetrodine) this must be human?
