Tell me you don’t know anything about Bella’s character without telling me. Her outfits are never supposed to be iconic, she is simple and doesn’t like to call any attention. As per the dresses over leggings, it was just the fashion at the time of that movie, nothing too deep

Sadly I can't remember the video off hand, but on the note of witchcraft and associations with clothing and cloth and "weaving magic," another link here might be related to something another TH-camr shared about the connection between the modern word spinster, and medieval unmarried women who made their way in life by being spinners and weavers. Older unmarried women, women with independent power and independent opinions, could be part of the equation.

I watched "Ripley" on Netflix this summer. The book is from the 50's and I think Donna Tartt owes so much to it. It was adapted for a great movie and a great TV series - with two very different results. The series is particularly good at conveying some of the book darkest and more psychological aspects. I think it's a good example of how The Secret History could be turned into a series.

This is such a great video! Practical Magic has been my favorite movie since it was released in 1998 (I was 14 so it was verrrrry formative) and I’ve loved The Craft since it was released as well. The 90’s was such a great time for witch content and I loved how you highlighted whimsygoth in that era (and I agree The Craft has the best witch fashion everrrrr).

Really interesting article. Boston witches here, our members portray lots of witch styles, vampire goth, fey witch, even Lolita fashion witch, we get our inspiration from many places. Its far more welcoming and acceptable now to be a witch, and as dancers, we entertain and promote body confidence, and mental health well being and positivity. so its lovely to see a channel like this doing a great video that helps and inspired people on witch clothing. We don’t care for the arts anymore. Post 2016 has over saturated entertainment to the point the value is gone. Back then we had one centralized system and place to watch the movie. Today we have several. I don’t watch shows because they are hiding behind paywall on some apps

Interesting takes, some of which I agree with but as a whole, I'm not sure that I buy this whole argument. Perhaps it is the want-to-be filmmaker in me, but I do not think that an argument should be proposed against the creation of art in fear of potential cultural interpretations and such. I do think that an adaptation would be difficult and would have to be executed quite thoughtfully as much of the nuance and beauty of the novel come from Tartt's prose itself, but I absolutely do not think that it cannot and should not be done. I think that to reject any potential adaptation because of the world we live in today, or how the shortcomings of the Goldfinch is narrow-minded. Yeah, if Hollywood mishandled the content, it would be disappointing, but I do not doubt that there are creative minds out there that could create something new out of The Secret History and handle all the subjects in an interesting way. After all, even if it was a failure or whatever, while disappointing, it doesn't detract from the original novel.

Something that I remember from back when Twilight came out (I was in middle school) was that, the most influential character for the fashion of the time was actually Alice Cullen. Alice’s fashion expressed what quintessential high, street-fashion was of the time. Everybody was dressing a little bit to emulate her. Her haircut was the most influential part of her look- everybody was getting the “ragdoll” haircut and flat ironing it to make the ends stick out a bit, like Alice’s hair. I even had the haircut. I’d love to see a video about Alice’s looks ranked!

I was a teen during the golden era of this show (2010s) and all of the girls in my class LOVED the outfits, like they were the epitome of fashion of those days. Hannah was the tredy it-girl, Aria was the alternative cool girl (I idolized her so much and loved all her outfits), Spencer was the preppy rich girl and Emily was the sporty jock girl. They were the fashon gods in my school that’s for sure. So fashion-wise for the era it’s actually on point.

It's not cool in my family but universally yes, a lot more acceptable.

I'd love nothing more than a director who truly loves the book and would be willing to use the source material to make a mini series. I wouldn't care for A listers or well known actors, just actors who can act (I know a tough ask) and match the characters. It has crazy good potential if the correct people work on it.

I had 2 weird henley tops with kangaroo pockets and hoods in middle school. Yes I would have with them to meet my boyfriend's parents. They were certainly a choice but I thought they were cool at the time. I have no regrets.
