Bowling Alley Dining Room Table | Part 1
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I take a beat-up old bowling lane and start the process of turning it into a monster dining room table. There were plenty of challenges on this build, and even a little fire 🔥😳 👉 Check out Part 2: th-cam.com/video/_8E9yBogRGA/w-d-xo.html 👉 Make your own Matchfit track clamps: th-cam.com/video/tdnOLu5t968/w-d-xo.html 🚨 Subscribe to my channel: bit.ly/368TIER ╳ FOLLOW ╳ instagram.c...
Turn Your Matchfit Dovetail Clamps into TRACK CLAMPS
มุมมอง 1.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
If you have any Dovetail Matchfit Clamps from MicroJig, then you already have clamps for your track saw track too. A simple little modification is all it takes. (Your mileage may vary - only tested with a Kreg track saw track.) 👉 Bowling Lane Dining Room Table | Part 1: th-cam.com/video/Z2vcxQ_XWSI/w-d-xo.html 👉 Bowling Lane Dining Room Table | Part 2: th-cam.com/video/_8E9yBogRGA/w-d-xo.html 🚨...
Bandsaw Mobile Base | Now With More Snatch Block!
มุมมอง 5K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I finally got around to adding a mobile base to my bandsaw this week. I used the PM-1100 universal base from Bora Portamate (link below) that you can make fit just about any tool’s footprint. In order to lift the bandsaw onto the base, I rigged up a pulley system using 4 snatch blocks. After watching one of Destin Sandlin’s most recent videos, I will never again be able to look at a snatch bloc...
Perfect Fitting Wooden Patches - Bow Tie Alternative
มุมมอง 1.1K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Here’s a quick way to patch up small cracks, knots, or blemishes in wood with an inlay. This is an awesome alternative for times when you don’t actually need the holding power of a bowtie/dutchman/butterfly/dovetail key. The best part is that using a template makes it easily repeatable and extremely accurate for a super tight-fitting joint. The cutting boards in this video are both made primari...

How To Cut Crosslap Joints With a Router
มุมมอง 20K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Here’s an alternate way to cut a basic woodworking joint - the crosslap joint - with a router. This method is useful in situations like this, where the joint is too large to be cut with a table saw or circular saw. Bandsaw Quick-Release Lever Replacement
มุมมอง 3.1K5 ปีที่แล้ว
I recently picked up a new (to me) bandsaw. When I got it home, I realized that the quick-release lever for blade changes was missing. Luckily, it was a super easy fix with parts and scraps I already had in the shop. ╳ WEBSITE ╳ www.thewhiskeredwoodsmith.com/contact ╳ SOCIAL ╳ whiskeredwoodsmith wiskrdwoodsmith whiskeredwoodsmith ╳ MUSIC ╳ 🔊Otis McDonald -...
Miter Saw Dust Collection Improvement
มุมมอง 12K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Dust collection at the miter saw has never been great, but Drew from Fisher’s Shop came up with a really clever design to address that issue. This is my take on his design and how I incorporated it into my miter station. DIY Picture Frame: Ebonized Oak
มุมมอง 3246 ปีที่แล้ว
A simple picture frame made from red oak and ebonized with India ink. An extra rabbet creates a ¼” reveal around the canvas, giving it a floating appearance inside the frame. Video style inspired by the rad synthwave track, ”Com-Kids”, used in the video (link below). ╳ WEBSITE ╳ www.thewhiskeredwoodsmith.com/ ╳ PANDERING ╳ whiskeredwoodsmith wiskrdwoodsmith facebook.c...
Great tips, Will be branding some pieces today with my new branding iron. Your beard in awesome. Like your title "whispered woodsmith".
Thank you very much. How many seconds did you count on a good burn 10 seconds?
I recently got a project doing this exact same type of joint on some wide boards. I've done lap joints before but not on 10in. wide boards. Very helpful video. Very clever little piece of metal you have there for marking the edge of a cut. I'm gonna try that one. Thanks.
Can I brand wood that’s already been varnished?
Beautiful work.
Is there a video on how you moved the table into the house?
At 5:26, why there is a gap?
This was a remarkably useful video! I was just considering purchasing MicroJig Matchfit clamps to use with a Kreg Accucut track and I was worried about the fit. Here you are tweaking the very clamp to fit in the very track! THANK YOU! 😲
Thank You for this tip!
Cool shot of the router bit cleaning up the half lap
Great tips. Thanks!
Thank you for the tips!
What was the finish you used? Also, what plug cutter bits do you use? Seem to have a nice cut to them. Thanks.
My wood surface is painted flat black. Can I still brand it and have it look good? I don’t care if it’s not as noticeable as on unpainted wood.
I assume this is a maple section of the lane? I just bought several sections from a local alley that closed and found out it was maple from where the bowling balls were launched and transitioned to old pine on the latter part of the lane. My 3 each 21 foot x 42" inch sections are all pine. Didn't realize how many nails were put in these guys. Thought they were just glued together. Looks like it will be more work than expected. Still love a challenge. Great job!
Is the slip nut (looks like diagonally sliced socket or nut) made by you or can it be purchased? Thank you
the procrastination is on point. anything not to do it! lol im doing the same thing
Great tutorial. What product did you use to seal it?
What did you use for the border wood?
Approximately How many actual work hours did invest in total from start to finish.
Clean looking shop! Love it
How many legs? Just 4? What c channels did you use on the bottom?
This is amazing. I have 18 pieces of lanes and need to start doing this
Comment......Old Bowling ally lanes seem like a good idea to make other stuff with but they are a lot of work and really not worth the trouble.
As much as we love the table, I can’t really disagree 😏
Put "Top "in Permanent marker on the wood handle
Great video! What was the planing depth?
Just got my new branding iron. Thanks for the helpful tips.
That black shit probably has asbestos in it lol
So are bowling lanes glued and nailed, or just nailed?
Both! They’re built in place and each piece is glued and nailed to the previous one
Excellent tutorial. Very helpful to me. Thanks for the peo tips on branding.
We just started and this video is very helpful! Thank you.
Thanks for watching! 🙏🏼
Just noticed the old Farrah Fawcett poster. Sweet!
Throw back!
does anyone have recommendations for best branding iron? I have found options on etsy that come with iron and stamp, but want to see what others use
Love this video! Which grit sand paper were you applying to the logo ?
Thanks for watching! I don’t remember exactly which grit I used at this point, but I’d say the highest grit you can get away with that will do the job. Probably something like 220. Presumably, your piece is mostly sanded by the time you’re branding, so you wouldn’t want to make any unnecessary scratch marks or ruin the brand with too low a grit.
do you find it better to countersink the feet slightly, vs not?
I don’t think it makes much difference in functionality, but it’s a nice touch and it lets you dial in how high you want the board lifted off the surface
Thank you, nice video
Thanks for watching!
great video! I have a couple stacks of these I pulled out of an old Legion building I have had them for like 4 years, this video just gave me that push I needed. well done
Nice work mate. Turned out awesome. I just got my hands on two 1.8m x 1.1m lengths. I knew there were going to be a lot of nails but I'm still going to give the router flattening jig a go to get that hump out. Thanks for the video. You got my subscription.
Superb video. Looking forward to the update. P.S. test it with a particulate counter
I have a slab of bowling lane. Sooo many nails
I’m gonna make shelves this way. To make the joints faster, I’m just gonna have the crosslaps go further in, overlapping, to compensate for the rounded corners. This will leave a small, concealed gap between the pieces. Do you think this will be a problem? (Could put a piece of wood inside). Just have to find a cnc to make the template. Do you find that your template wont accomodate same thickness materials from different manufacturers or even pieces? Or is this just a theoretic concern?
Great video. Love the subtle top edge bevel, looks great!
I made kitchen c-tops with a few lanes. Learned quickly that 1 rip=1 blade, and hold on tight to the saw. Started wearing a face shield as well. Those hardened spiral nails are a son-of-a-beeotch. Regarding the black stuff on the bottom: I work in the remodeling industry, and that stuff looked like cutback adhesive. Nasty asphalt-based adhesive they used on vinyl tile from the late 1800s up till around the 1980s. It can (and most likely does) contain asbestos. I just wore a mask sanding/planing it outside. Not 100% if it IS cutback, but it sure seems like it, and better safe than sorry. Sure you're fine though. Especially with that brilliant little deflector! Nice work!!
Where did you source the metal cross supports. What were they called? How can I find them? Thanks!
Hi Han, thanks for watching. The supports are pieces of steel c-channel. If you have a steel supplier near you, that is likely the most affordable place to find it and you’ll have more size options both in overall dimensions and in gauge/thickness. I have also seen it for sale at big box stores, though you’ll have fewer options and probably pay more.
Does it work well on end grain?
Good vid. I would’ve gone in a corner for a chopping board so knives don’t remove the brand over time
Ahhh that’s the back 👍
what type of oil do u use?
beautiful work! i now am obsessed with wanting to buy one of ur pieces!
I'm a big fan of pyography art & i try my best to get better at it. Always wondered how to even get started in brands. Who makes them, how much... & ur awesome!👌
What depth was your brand cut? Standard or Deep?
