Making a minimal deep tech house track from scratch on the SP404 MK2
Sorry the voice recording is quieter than the music volume and the music volume is a bit distorting, I keep forgetting how loud the 404 gets :D

Pretty decent set. Thanks for sharing.

A newbie here. How do you export or sort out the files on the sd card into sub divisions? is it done on a laptop or can it be done on the unit?
As far as I know I don’t think it’s possible to create your own folders on the unit itself however it is possible to export sounds you create that are on a pad/bank and when you select to export the samples, they will show up in a folder on the sd card, I hope that helps!
@safa1one thanks. Ive saved bank A samples to sd but when i go back to import them onto the sp theres nothing that shows up, but they are there if i export from sd card to the sp but theres no sub divisions or sample names or anything.not like what your showing on yours.
@@deanbr6ndo70oh weird yeah I’m not sure why that is happening on your device, I would have to look into how it works to give a better answer 😅
im learning stuff 🙌🏻
Thank you I’m glad it’s informative in some way!
Hey Safa! I would like to ask you a question, as a total beginner . Which of these two gears would you recommend to me? I'm more into EDM/Brian eno/four tet music when it comes to production. Roland P6 or SP404 MK2? And a sick work from you, as always!
Hey thank you so much for watching! I think that the P6 is a great tool/sampler for making ambient type stuff and I think its workflow is simple and great. It’s also a bit cheaper than the SP404 MK2. The P6 has a granular sampler engine that also you to manipulate samples in a way that the 404 just can’t, and also it can playback samples in chromatic mode polyphonically meaning you can play chords with the P6 easily where the 404 you can’t as easily. That all being said the P6 does not have an SD card slot so whatever you sample into it or take out of it that’s all you get and you have to delete samples to put new ones in if all the banks are full and you want to have new samples on it to make new songs/loops. The 404 can have as many projects as the sd card capacity can handle meaning endless amount of time and such. So it’s really hard to say which one is best for beginners 😅 but workflow wise I think that the P6 is a bit more straightforward and it’s a little bit easier to come up with sequences/loops/beats etc than the 404. Hope that helps, most importantly whichever you choose they are both dope and enjoy the process!
Wow! Thanks for this amount of valuable informations, I would consider buying a p6, one of the biggest pros is - you can take it anywhere you want!
@ yeah it’s very portable! Hope you enjoy!
Sick ass foo!!!
Thank for watching!
Will be purchasing the mk2 this coming week… it’s vids like this that got me so hype!
Thank you so much, I hope you enjoy the device its a dope sampler!
This is fire
Thank you!
I just got this unit (also have the S-1 which has been fun but this is a different learning curve.). Question, Right now I want to just use the samples that are in the machine until I branch out and do my own. Are the 8 banks completely full of samples or did they provide empty slots? Also, I imagine I can factory reset if I want to keep the samples already in the machine for later use.
If I remember correctly all of the banks are full of sounds initially but you can check by going through the banks 😅 I loaded my own samples the same day I got the unit and never backed up the samples that were on it. This device will only have the sample you store on it and if you delete anything it won’t be retrievable from what I know. However it might be possible to save the samples that come with it I would have to look into it!
sample is hitting
Thank you 🙏
Really nice! I’m still trying to get my head around using the Mute properly but I’ve been making pattern manual and in TR Record but is this done differently to have everything laid out like that?
Hey thanks for watching! For this set I have created 1 pattern per pad and it’s just a loop, then I use the hold “Shift + Reverse” and mute / unmute a sample that is playing within that pad. Basically I’m using that and the effects to arrange/dj the loops I made if that makes sense!
Very cool! Respect from Russia!
Thank you!
Nice work man.
Thank you!
Pretty good workflow for only a month with the 404mk2.
Thank you so much!
Cool! New subscriber.
Thank you!
I was about to be so stressed for you when your sample was off sync - glad it got fixed. I'm also new to my SP404 - it is such an intriguing, painstaking joy. The limitations and difficulties almost churn out better ideas for me. Koala sampler is more convenient and quicker in almost every way and I think I will enjoy utilizing their integration but the pace of sp404 really does help me come up with fuller worlds. Looping and stretching on koala is so easy, so quick. The sp404 start end points r so janky but I appreciate the torture. Hope we can continue to correspond. Thanks for sharing ur music
Thank you for watching! Yeah I was not sure what went wrong when it went off sync but it took me some time to figure it out 😅 it’s nice to know that others are on the same path with this device too, I think it’s nice to use easier stuff too like you mentioned Koala app and other gear but it’s also nice to have a challenge and make something from a device that makes you think in different ways about sampling/recording patterns 😊
👏🏾🏡🎵
Thank you!
🙌🫶 excellent Is it difficult to put together a one-hour set with Tracks and samples? Does it have a good workflow?
@ I think it’s not too difficult, the most important thing is having enough space for samples/sounds in the bank. I could just put a complete loop into one pad and go from there but I would rather have a certain level of control over the individual sounds. I might also try to resample and group certain sounds together and turn them into loops for example percussion elements, hi hats, congos, shakers etc
@@safa1one thanks my friend. I had an electribe sampler and a circuit but I lost them due to debt. I'm looking forward to buying this one when I can! Thank you very much for your video and your comment. I enlighten myself
@@inaki___ Thank you too! I have played with the electribe a long time ago from a friend its a dope machine, I have a circuit rhythm they are great too! If you get a 404 enjoy it, very fun device, thanks again for watching 😃
Brilliant. Thank you. Was just wondering if you use it in conjunction with any software to record whole songs
@@paulvincent5363 Thank you too! I use it with either a zoom portable mic or going directly into my computer via a usb audio interface and OBS or your choice e of DAW (I use FL studio), both methods will work and all you need to do is just jam or perform the track/beat using the P6!
I got this in my wish list
@@dhonkeypunch it’s a cool one for sure, I used the koala app a lot and it’s similar but still the knobs of the 404 and how to utilize stuff is still more fun I think
If the weaker signal changes when you swap the cables between the left and right line outs it is probably a bad cable, not the actual unit
I tried using other gear like the MPC one and didn’t have the same issue. I’m going to test it again using a different cable just to be sure though thank you 😅 I’ll try using a zoom mic with the Roland and see what happens too, maybe it’s a weird malfunction with the mixer I’m using 🥹
yeah i was thinking the same...also depends on what kind of TRS cable you use or if its just a mono 1/4......also try slighty pulling the plug out so its not all the way in and see if it does anything
@ yeah I will do some troubleshooting soon 😅 I haven’t run into this kind of thing before I don’t think but I’m guessing there’s something about it haha 🤣
Nice!! Can u save the song on sdcard?
@@juanlr2023yeah it’s possible, I saved this on the pattern/pad in this case!

Thank you yeah I learned that afterwards too but it’s good to remember how 😅
Nice...
Nice. Agree it's definitely a lot of features for the price and eminently portable. Does it have a song mode?
@@electrosonicnebula there’s not a song mode but you can create patterns around the a song and have variations of it and switch between those variations, I’m not sure if you can link them together so they switch automatically though
FYI, I believe pushing in the top left encoder <> and pressing play is a shortcut to start play head in the middle of song arranger view! Another great video to follow along with, thanks mate!
Thank you for watching and yeah I need to learn the arranger view a bit more I haven't dove too deep into it yet 😅
