    I'm glad you put that last part in about continuing to learn the fundamentals. I know a lot of blue belts that get to purple and get so caught up in the latest hotness they forget what got them there. You can't be too good at arm bars, triangles and sweeps. Time spent working worm guard could likely be better spent getting your basics to black belt level.

    Good advice Mark.. I like to visit other academies when I travel as well. Traveler be aware though that not all gyms are welcoming lol. Some academies view colored belt drop ins as the ADCC championship finals. One experience in particular I had many years ago in Baltimore was every roll felt like a death match. I was lucky to make it out alive. My advice I give my guys is read the reviews, if any, on the school you plan to visit.

    I started training Gracie Jiujitsu because of the street fighting aspect of the art! I grew up in the Eastend of London So I needed something that could deal with all aspects of fighting.. (with no rules) but the thing that has kept me in good stead has been the Head butts & elbows from the clinch.. and situational awareness! I’m so grateful for the art whether sport or street! But I’m definitely all For the street Gracie Jiujitsu side of the art!

    I’m a two stripe white belt and I feel like I’ve kinda just stopped progressing completely. There’s not a lot of white belts where I am that train regularly, and I get killed by the colour belts. I don’t care as much for the progression of ranks because I honestly can’t see myself getting further than I am with it. I do enjoy the physical aspects of rolling and learning but being beaten up frequently is starting to take its toll and I don’t know how to approach this.

    • @markcukro4129
      @markcukro4129 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can do a few things. One, each time you get submitted, ask the person to break down and teach you what they just did and why it worked. Second, you could ask a higher belt for a coach roll which means every time they see you make a mistake they'll tell you to stop, provide coaching, and then get back to the rolling. You could even tell the person that you're looking for, advice and assistance and how to get better and that you would like their help if they are willing to give it to you. They'll probably change the entire way they roll with you
