Terry Fox
The Terry Fox Monument, situated in the outskirts of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, is a public monument commemorating cancer research activist Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope.[1] The monument, which depicts Fox, is open to the public and offers a panoramic view of Thunder Bay and its surroundings.
The statue was created by sculptor Manfred Pervich[2] to mark the place where Fox was forced to stop his run on August 31, 1980. It is approximately four kilometres (2+1⁄2 miles) west[3] of the exact spot where Fox ended his run, which is marked by a road sign.
The monument was dedicated on June 26, 1982, just days before the first anniversary of Terry Fox's death, by Governor General Edward Schreyer.
Originally located directly along the route of Highway 17,[5] the statue was later relocated to a dedicated park overlooking the highway to accommodate the widening of the highway route.

Just to clarify, the yellow leather tank cover & backpack / tankbag are sold together as a "Bagster" ? I wouldn't mind one if just to add color to my rather drab appearance Grey / Black paint scheme lol
Manufacture is Bagster, I believe you can mix and match the actual tank bag size
@arthritic.adventures Awesome to hear. Thank YOU 👍
Awesome look at your nicely upgraded DL650. I have same bike a 2008 model. Less mods but still they suit my mostly street riding. I have larger windshield, Givi 22 side cases & engine guards, rear trunk, LED Bulb 💡 upgrade, RK Takasago Chain & Darkside - Car Tire - on the rear. (Fyi: 205/55 VR17 from 150/70 R17) The latter is due to my 20,000 annual miles & commuting - its a drag to replace a rear tire frequently or have it wear out far from home, imho. I bought mine as a lightly used, new condition trade in at a Harley dealer. 12,000 miles not fully broken in even, not a scratch for $3,600 otd. Insane Value ! - Ive owned about 12 bikes over the years, 6 Dirt / Enduro & 6 street - mostly from 1975-82, High School years. Fast forward to 2023 and Ill be darned if the wizards at Suzuki haven't managed to combine all the Virtues of those 12 bikes into a Single Unit !!! The V-Strom is truly the ideal reliable "All - Arounder" - ironically it was our BMW+ Club President who suggested this as a "Poor Man's BMW that is 85% as good & even more reliable, for relative Peanuts". Afrer 18 months of flogging this Ole Girl, I couldn't agree more ! You earned a sub my friend in the GWN. David in Texas

Why do you skin the beets? We just washed them off from the garden chop them and throw them into the smoothies. I'm seeing a lot of people skinning them first they'll boil them and then the skin comes right off and I'm wondering why that is?
I just peel them and pre-freeze them and into a freezer bag, they don't last long we have frequent smoothies. Thanks for asking!

Thanks for the comment, yes, I need to do a way better job of reading my maps and signs. I tend to gloss over the correct name and pronunciation of towns and bridges and such. I'll try to do better job at that, duely noted!
Fantastic video, enjoyed it very much , hoping to do this trip next year , will be retiring soon and this area is on my bucket list, keep up the good work, you are an inspiration to me !
Thank for such a great comment Ken! If I did it again, I'd ride to Thunder Bay on the Canadian side like I've done in the video and then turn around and drive back and see it agai from the other direction. The Canadian side is that pretty!
Great video, thank you. Can I ask, did you have any problem with installing the bar risers from 14:05 the point of view of cable lenghs, etc. That needed lenghening ?
Thanks very much! No I didn't have an issue, but I'm wonering now, when I order a steel braided brake line kit for it, if should add an inch just incase for the few extra dollars???
This is such a cool video of Lake Superior, Arthritic Adventures. ay I ask if you ever use the video monitor on your motorcycle for seeing obstructions? I was considering making a similar setup on my motorcycle.
Hey VeeDriving, thank-you so much for the nice comment! I'm not sure I'm understanding you question? Are asking about the Samsung Active Tab that I have mounted? The V-Strom doesn't have a display so I think so. When I'm running "WAZE" on it, that tells about traffic obstruction, is that the idea? It's wi-fi tethered to my phone and it has a GPS chip so I can run just about any Android software, and know where I am with or without a mobile connection. Hope this helps! Thanks again for commenting

I'm 6′ 6″ and I would love to have an Africa Twin 750 but I can't afford it. I am 52 years old and I am in the process of making arrangements to buy a 2019 Suzuki DL 650 V Strom, but it has no equipment on it. It costs 7100 USD
Hey! Thanks for commenting, I love my 650 V- Strom, I just spend way too much time looking at other shiney toys at the local dealership. You will not be disappointed, great choice, two thumbs up!
Thanks for the vid. Would love to ride with you one day!
Hey thanks for stopping by and commenting, what kind of adventure bike do you ride?
As you noted - the 118 and much of 28 were recently paved.......................... but they left the rehabilitation of the elderly bridges till later............................. but having just come back from a trip on 28 - yes - it is VERY SCENIC- so kudos for a nice video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for the comment Abell!!!
@@arthritic.adventures My pleasure to do so - I have been enjoying your jaunts to the Highlands and just maybe I will feel like driving that far from home some day to have a look at the scenery!!!!!!!!!
I am thinking that anybody hired to be a 19th century road builder would BE DELIGHTED - getting that steady, reliable govt money to work steady cutting down those ENDLESS lines of trees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not to mention the modern day machinery to do it with, can you imagine if one of those original workmen could see us cutting the trees and blasting out the rock??? Crazy compared to how they had to do it. Thanks for the comment!!!!!
@@arthritic.adventures Once upon a time I met some guys from down east who had spent years cutting pulpwood in places like New Brunswick................. those guys simply took it for granted that anything they worked on would break a sweat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For 2024 the Africa twin is shorter

Are you headed to Port Dover this week?
Ahh, would love to, but the stars alighted for a solo trip around Lake Superior. Haven't been to Prt Dover in about 10 years. Need to get back there next time. You going?
Heading to the Timber Trail Loop in a few weeks. Same area but a larger loop with some gravel roads for more excitement. Overnights in Bancroft and Haliburton. Should be great. Have been on those paved roads you were on to get to camping destinations. That 28 is one I try to avoid due to it being a busy secondary highway.
Thanks for the comment, yes there are three up there now and some optional challenging additions I see on the RTH website. I'm going to try and squeeze at least one in this year too. Need to get my friend out, not as keen riding offroad solo. Enjoy!!!!

Get Barkbusters handguards! They are SUPERB! And look great on my (2023) V-strom 650XT.
Yeah that's what I'm after too! Do you have any particular version Sean?
@arthritic.adventures check out the trex bark busters for the vstrom 650, i have their crash guards super quality
I overcome my mesh dilemma with three things. I have a great little jacket with a silver fabric interior that’s windproof and surprisingly warm that packs up into a tiny bag, I wear that underneath the mesh jacket if it’s going to be a bit cool. On top of the jacket I wear a sailing smock that folds into its own pocket. It gives a good level of waterproof protection. Both take up very little space. I also carry a one piece waterproof suit that I can wear over everything if I need to wrap up warm and stay dry. It too packs small.
Great comment David, thanks for the ideas, I have a bit of sailing gear too that's wind and waterproof too. But it's little more bulky than what you've described, but it sure would keep me warm and dry over the mesh! Thanks again for the great comment!
What gps machine are you using
Hey! I use a Samsung Rugged Active Tab 2 ($80 off eBay, all you need, but I'd love to upgrade to a Tab 4). I run DMD2 software on it from www.drivemodedashboard.com/ FYI: From there site. DMD2 APP: DMD2 is probably the only Android navigation app that is made specifically for motorcycles and specialised in Adventure and Off-Road.
Oh, you can actually buy a Bluetooth dongle for it and more or replace your dashboard on the motorcycle with it, too. Attaches to the diagnostic port in your bike and the DMD2 app will display speed, RPM, temperature all that stuff. I like it!
I put a foot peg lowering kit and it’s great. You can find top piece for foot pegs who are not slippery. My garage…Africa twin 2024 ES DCT for long range, Honda NC750 DCT for daily and Honda CRF300L rally ABS…. I cannot complain, I have a 2021 V Strom 650 but with my 193 cm buffering is horrible and I have a Tenere 700 2024 for adventure/enduro riding. New subscriber
Hey that's interesting Francois, I'll look into the top pieces thanks so much for subscribing! I'm jealous of your garage, I've thought of adding a CRF300L to the garage with my V-Strom for riding more off road closer to home, Cheers! CD

Good job and glad you stayed in your comfort zone.
Thanks Glenn, hope you enjoy it
Always enjoy your videos, riding the highlands is something that I would like to try out, keep up the good work, look forward to more videos!
Thanks for the kind comment, Ken. Get on the RideTheHighlands.ca site, and they will send you a free map of all the routes.
Great loadout vid planning to make my own doing the Colorado BDR next week hopefully all my gear works perfect! Happy riding! Just subscribed!
DeadOnTrail, I'm so jealous of your location! I rode a bit of the NEBDR out on this coast last summer. But I look at all the BDR's out in your neck of the woods with great envy! Just subscribe, looking forward you your loadout video. Thanks for the support, just getting started on YT, greatly appreciated! Cheers
BTW Love the new jeep!!! Used to watch a lot of Trail Recon too
Good ride! Letterkenny is filmed in Sudbury, Ontario. The town of Letterkenny portrayed in the series is fictional and is not based on the real Letterkenny in Ontario, which is now part of Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan. The town in the show is instead loosely based on (Wayne) Jared Keeso's hometown of Listowel, Ontario.
Thanks for the comment! Interesting, thanks for that info, I just ran their signature episode "intro" across the page for fun! A sort of tribute to the fictional, Thanks George(?)
Another pleasant video detailing a scenic afternoon ride! Very nice....................... but along the way it occurs to me that you should probably NOT be letting the public know that you will be out of the country for a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Call me a cynic but such an announcement seems like an open invitation to THIEVES!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey! Thanks for the comment, you have a great point, we've had been back for a fair bit of time before I mentioned it online and my adult daughters and the sometimes their boy friends live here too. Trying to get them to move out!!! LMAO Thanks again for commenting!!
@@arthritic.adventures Uh.......timing is every thing? I had the idea from watching videos - but maybe not looking to closely at dates - that you had mentioned the upcoming trip PRIOR to leaving.................. but with daughters and assorted boy friends lurking about - one would have thought the place was safe???? Or perhaps somebody came home and interrupted the thieves and scared them away just as they were breaking in? Oh well............in any case I guess you had a good trip and now can go back to doing nice videos showcasing the Highlands for us riders that are curious about the area............I have ideas about riding some of the more southerly and westerly areas eventually...............
@abellseaman4114 who knows, guess that's why we have insurance, always appreciate your comments!!! Thanks
@@arthritic.adventures Looking forward to more of your videos though I may never get to Ride The Highlands as it is rather far from the Toronto area and 3 hours on a bike is about my limit............just too lazy I guess! so I will have to watch your stuff to see what I might be missing - that Pick axe loop looks pretty good!!!!!!!!
Every year I say I’m going to do the Elephant Lake, Peterson Road ride, now I will. Thanks.
Ahh, that's great to here Nick. Thanks, it's ever so satisfying to get a positive comment. It's so satisfying to get one from a fellow motorcyclist or arthritic. It makes all the time and effort to travel there, record/comment, edit, and build out the video worth wild!!! If you're riding out there, make sure you take in the Letterkenny route. It's a gem. Cheers
I enjoyed this and your Creemore video, I am 66, ride a road bike and just started motorcycle camping with the advent of the pandemic. Camped out at Black Donald campground near Calabogie, Huntsville and in Michigan near Traverse City twice. Your newest subscriber Gerhard
Hey Gerhard, thanks for the comment and the subscription. Greatly appreciated!!!! I'll have to look up Traverse City. I think one of my favourite things is packing my camping gear, starting the bike up, and heading off with no idea where I'm stopping during the day or camping that night. I did that all the way to the Cabot trail last year. Thanks again, cheers!
I will absolutely give your video a like! What a relaxing way to wind down at the end of the day! I admire your positivity and the way you stop and look at the view along the way. Such a beautiful province we live in! Cheers BB
I always appreciate your kind words Bob! Thanks for the comment and the like, we are sooo lucky in Ontario
I'm looking forward to exploring more roads from the Ride the Highlands map as well. Nice to see some previews and points of interest. Thinking after the Pick axe loop the new Timber Trail looks fantastic. Nice thing is some of those beauty paved roads your showing link up and are a part of those off the pavement journeys. Best of both worlds. Thanks again.👍
Hey your more than welcome for the videos, it's a pleasure to make them for everyone, especially those that have the time to comment as well. I'm looking forward to giving Timber Trail ago myself, thank-you for the nice comment, always appreciated!!! Cheers!
