เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 26 มิ.ย. 2020
A vlog for handspinners, knitters and the wool curious. All about handspinning yarn, knitting, wool processing and farm life with Kim Biegler, owner of Ewethful Fiber Farm and Mill. I own a wool mill where I process animal fibers into products for hand spinners. I share how to tips and life inside owning a wool mill, making yarn, spinning yarn and owning a fiber flock of animals.
I also have online classes that teach you how to spin yarn by hand. I educate about wool and try to share some of the knowledge I have gained and how to apply to your crafts and yarn making. And of course include trips to see the animals as well as current projects I am working inside the wool mill and on my knitting needles.

PS - I got a giant pot from goodwill that is big enough for 5 skeins (usually a sweater's quantity for me) of yarn. Then I sometimes only use 1 or 2 of the AEF dye packs. =)
Look at you knitting all the things =) And wearing the things you knit. YES! Interestingly, my brother and I had to change instantly from "school clothes" to "play clothes" (last year's school clothes) when we got home in the afternoon, but mom always said about her beautiful china and colored cut glass " I know that by using this someday a piece will get broken, but that would be better than never getting to use it". I hold on to the latter philosophy for my handknits. Happy Thanksgiving!

Yes!!!! I mean I did bake it. OK only 1 of 3 but still. 😉
Very impressive self spun cotton top! And I'm looking forward to seeing your Fruity Knitting project 😊
Thank you Susan! A labor of love and frustration, lol. But I'm proud of the results and loving the top!
I am coveting your washing machine.
It's amazing!
Excellent
Thanks for the tip about knitting alpaca with a more complicated stitch pattern to help minimize the growth/stretching! I have SO much alpaca fiber to work through and have been a little stumped about what to do with it. Your advice helped spark some project ideas!
Wonderful! So glad I could help. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I love that blue sweater that you are wearing in this video!
So interesting to learn about alpaca and how it compares to wool. Thanks! 🦙
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for listening!
Nice to meet you! Sorry to hear that there was this fleece club that I missed out on! Would you ever consider repeating it in the future?
I don't see it in the future again but never say never. For now, being in my Patreon community is the easiest way to get fibers. And on my newsletter it's next best place! Thank you for watching.
Thanks, I have been putting off spinning my alpaca cuz I wasn't sure about my skills. Will for sure do a blend to start. Love your cat!
Wish the mill cat is pretty awesome! Don't be too afraid of alpaca but a blend is a great place to start. And knowing is half the battle shop when you do try alpaca you'll be ready and less frustrated! Thanks for watching.
I'm very much looking forward to beginning to spin this winter. Thank you for your Channel and for the content.
Aw thank you! Yay to becoming a handspinner! Are you planning to start with a spindle or a wheel?
I spun that alpaca in one sitting the day it arrived! Lovely stuff! Thanks, Kim.😍
Wonderful! So glad you enjoyed it!!!
Hi from south Australia. I have been spinning for about 30 years, and spinning mostly alpaca. I've never really had a problem with it. I would love to buy some of your rovings, but not sure if it would clear customs!!
Thank you watching! It's alpaca easiest to get there or do you just love it? Hard fiber not to love, unless your a beginner and then maybe, lol. I'm trying to think if I've shipped to Australia...
Hi Kim, I knit a friend a pair of alpaca/ Romney blended socks. He loves them and they keep his feet nice and warm.
You are a great friend!!!! So warm!
Hi Kim. Thanks for featuring alpaca! I love to spin alpaca/wool blends. I have not had much luck spinning 100% alpaca. My problem is with plying. The singles untwist and fall apart before I can get them into the orifice. Any tips?
Yes! You need to add more twist while you are spinning. Singles falling apart equals not enough twist. Alpaca tends to be shorter than a lot of wool so does require a little extra repost twist to keep it together. Hope that helps!
Omg I have the same drop spindal!!! Enjoy dear!

Maggie your watching TH-cam!!! I bought a special brush for him to use in the spring. He loves being groomed so much!

It's a carding machine
Good girls 🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑
That says it all!
Mike does a great job, he's calm, the sheep are calm. Big fluffy beautiful fleece! The chickens photo-bombing you, they are show-offy.
So calm! Not all shearers are. We are grateful!
Awww, Cuddlebug 🧡
He's such a sweetie! Unless he's being a jerk, hahaha.
I love watching the shearing!
I'm so glad cause there's a lot of it, lol!
Love Cuddlebug’s face 🤩❤️ And all the fiber looks sooo nice!😍
Cuddlebug loves getting shorn!
Wow. What brand is your spinning wheel? It looks so evenly balanced.
It's a Majacraft. Amazing wheels!
Siiiick!
Spinning vinyl.
Love this shop!!
Michael is an amazing shearer! He takes such care with your gorgeous wool. And I think Cuddlebug said good bye for you! Thanks for sharing.
He really is. I forgot about Cuddlebug's goodbye. Great point! Hope you are well Holly!!!
Love seeing the sheep and Cuddle bug! what cuties =) And hearing the chickens. Great day on the farm, and so much pretty fiber.
So much pretty fiber!!!
Hi! I am new to your channel and I will visit again! I am a shepherdess and a spinner. I enjoyed seeing all the beautiful wool and your spins! Take good care!
Welcome!!! So glad you found me and enjoyed the episode. I talk a lot about wool, lolol. Take care!
Hi there! Just wondering if your washer needs a special setup to drain the lanolin water? I've always avoided putting my fiber waste water through my septic system, but I don't really know if that caution is warranted or not. I love your content btw. Thanks for being here... especially now.
I do not. I don't wash enough that we were concerned about the lanolin and my water stays hot enough that it would take a bit before the lanolin would harden again. That said if I'm washing at home I use power scour and just toss all the dirty water outside on the lawn.
If only I found the time to make a whole outfit of yarn that I spun myself, and knitted to gsrments. Just like my ancestors did. Skirt, sweater, mittens, socks...
You can!!! Slow progress will get you there.
Do you use soap or anything?
Absolutely. I use a product called power scour.
My son has an alpaca farm, it’s cool to see the process of how he gets it back. He has most of his turned into yarn, but I do a bunch of asking for some of it in spinning form. Right now I’m spinning some alpaca cria fiber, it’s of so soft!!!
That sounds like a lovely spin. Next week I'll be processing and taking a lot about alpaca!
Look at you in your pretty cowl =). Good to see you and all the gorgeous wool! xo
Love the cowl. Been wearing it a lot!!!
I think in moments like this there's no better way to feel better than making something with your hands ❤
I agree. Hard to push ourselves to do it but so good for our souls once we get there.
I enjoyed every moment of this video, but was surprised (and so, so heartened) by the ending. Thank you for putting into words how so many of us feel right now. I'm doing my best to avoid election-related content -- videos like yours soothe my frayed nerves. I'm subscribing to your channel and sending good wishes to you and the people you love.
That was the second ending. The first was from election day, when my hope was strong. The sentiment changed for sure. But my hope is coming back. Take care of yourself.
I have watched nothing but making videos and I just found you. I love watching about the process of making hand dyed yarn. Thank you for your comments as I am disappointed and sad and you made me feel better.
I'm so glad i was able to bring some level of comfort to you. Take care of yourself.
So good for the soul to watch this today! Thank you. 🐑
I'm so glad!!! Thank you for watching.
Cocteau Twins?
Was just playing this fir Maxi today! Pixies that is.
That sure puffed up !! Can you turn off the lights and check out that static electricity?
I’ve watched this video multiple times in the last 24 hours. I used it to quiet my brain to fall asleep last night, and watching it during my coffee this morning. Thank you for all you do!
Oh I'm so glad it helped. Maybe I should've just done a half hour of spinning, I'll keep that one in my back pocket. Take care of yourself!
Thanks for the video! That alpaca roving looks so good, I hope it makes it to the website so I can buy some! I’m so glad to hear Mill Day is coming back! I sadly won’t be able to make it because my in-laws will be here until the next day. I can’t wait to see everyone again. ❤
Well if you can sneak out for an hour! I'll do another in December.
those colours! the caramel colored alpaca! yum
It's so gorgeous!!!
Thanks Kim, for your wonderful video, we’re dealing with the spectrum of feelings in Canada. I completely agree with your sentiments about finding something beautiful in one’s day your fibre is beautiful, I love Wool Wednesday. ❤
Thank you for watching and sharing!
Wool therapy, yessss ❤
❤️❤️❤️
I love watching the carding. I'm envious as ji usually get my fleece by whole fleece cc and your machine would make it sooo much eadier
The carding really never gets old! My machines do make processing easier! Thanks for watching.
I just unsubscribed to all of my political podcasts and sat with a moment watching this episode of Wool Wednesday. It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed spending time with my favorite fiber videos. Making and spending “time” with like minded folks certainly is a healthy way to go. Thank you for deciding to record today ❤
Peggy ❤ thank you for being here to watch.
Me too! ❤️ I am new to this channel, but I'm loving it and finding peace and beauty in your work. Thank you so much for sharing with us. ❤️😊
