My acoustic rendition of the Elvis Presley classic 'Don't Be Cruel', which was originally released in 1956, and written by Otis Blackwell (who also wrote other Presley hits such as 'All Shook Up' and 'Return to Sender). You and your friend is another one.
The live version from On The Night is definitely a favourite of mine!
Excellent choices - so glad you included In the Gallery. John Peel played it late one evening in around January '79 and it stopped me dead in my tracks - had never heard a sound like that, and went out to buy the album the very next day. Love all their stuff, but this is the track I always come back to.
@@stevensquires9822 Brilliant, love it when that sort of thing happens. Thanks for watching and pleased you liked the choices 🙂
The man's too strong is such an amazing track. Nothing tops telegraph road though.
@@serpentinefire921 Yeah agreed Telegraph Road is incredible. Can never make up my mind about if I prefer the studio or live version though - both outstanding in different ways!
I loved your list, especially It Never Rains, it's probably my #1 Dire Straits song, I love the emotions and sensations that this song awakens in me. One detail, the version of Where do you think you're going from the 1988 compilation is the demo version, recorded in late 1978, before the band went to the Bahamas to record the album Communiqué. My list is: 1- It Never Rains 2- Lions 3- Single Handed Sailor 4- You and Your Friend 5- Down to the Waterline
@@StraimanNunes Oh nice thanks for the info, I didn’t realise that about Where Do You Think You’re Going! Excellent fact. Loving your list too - Single Handed Sailor and Lions are both tracks that only just missed out on my list, they’re belters.
I love this song! Thank you for lesson!!!
@@garyblomquist7198 You’re very welcome! 😊
Matt this outrageous, no water of love, Wild West End, Brothers in Arms, or Telegragh Road!!! But yeah, love In the gallery. Cant believe its not the same Harry.
@@moveslikemagnus Ha well most of those were released as singles so they didn’t fit the criteria! Although I must admit Wild West End nearly made the cut, it’s such a great tune. As far as I’m aware it’s not the same Harry, but I’ve no actual evidence to back that up!
@@mattjamesmusicyork Oh I see, ive no idea what tracks where were released as singles except obviously the very famous ones. Didn't think water of love or telegraph road would have been as the latter was so long. Figures Brothers in Arms would be though. Anyway, great vid and you should do more like this.
@ In fairness I think you’re right regarding the length of Telegraph Road, as the single that was released was a much shorter version than the album version. Appreciate your kind words regarding the video, means a lot. I enjoyed doing it so definitely intend to do more 🙂
I was hoping single handed sailor might be in there. My top 5 would be 5. My Parties 4. Ride across the river 3. Les boys 2. Industrial disease 1. Single handed sailor
@ Single Handed Sailor is so good! A great choice. I was incredibly close to including it, but Iron Hand just won out by a whisker. Loving you’ve got My Parties on there, and good to see someone likes Les Boys as most people I speak to absolutely despise it 😂
Love the arrangement buy wish you had played thru the entire song.
Great advice Matt ! I started out trying to play Barr chords with all fingers in place and although I can play them it still hurts my index finger , so I’m going to try your way for a while and see if it works for me . Thanks H
Great stuff Harold, I really hope my suggestions help you. Let me know how you get on :)
I will keep you updated Matt . Thanks
Awesome! That’s a great video and lesson x thanks Matt . H

Muy buena interpretación. Gracias por compartirla...

Could you like show the actual tabs on the screen please?? Thanks for being accessible.
Hi Emily, it's a good point and is something I've tried to start adding to my more recent videos, albeit very simply. I'd eventually like to add tabs on the screen that move along with what I'm playing, but I'm still yet to figure out how to do it! Whilst I can't add tabs to this particular video, here's a link to the tab that I used when I was learning it myself tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/fleetwood-mac/the-chain-tabs-1210806 Hope that helps!
Well done mate!

Thanks very much! I did a separate video showing how to play it which includes the chords - here's the link th-cam.com/video/MpBpG25CM1o/w-d-xo.html
why is this video backwards ?
Ah yes sorry, the camera had defaulted to mirror mode and I hadn't realised until it was too late - will be rectified for future videos!
I was never a Presley fan, but this acoustic rendition brings that song to life. Of course, Mr P never wrote any of his songs but sang them well at first before drink and drugs sadly ruined his life. Thank you Matt.
Thank you Nikki, that's very kind and means a lot :)
Wonderful - The Kinks did some iconic songs but never found the same stardom as The Beatles. Lovely rendition.
Thank you Nikki :)
Great channel and a superb idea to show folk how to play a guitar. Sadly, I have never developed this skill - indeed anything that relies upon complex hand and finger control has always been impossible for me - I even have an inability to play racquet sports. But it is lovely to watch and listen to. Thank you. And only 14 more subs to go before you get to the magic number! . Do you play professionally in York at all ?
Thank you Nikki, that's very kind and much appreciated :)
@@NikkisNosh I wouldn’t class myself as professional per se as I have a day job, but I’m in a 60s band which gets regular paid work throughout the year, and I do the odd solo gig too 🙂
How amazing!

Love your tutorials Matt. Can you please do more Elvis tutorials??
@@stevendavls2109 Thanks so much Steven, really appreciate it. And yes I’m more than happy to do more Elvis tutorials, I shall get on it!
key change ???
@@stewarttaylor997 I chose not to include it on this tutorial as I figured if you’re playing it solo it’s a bit easier to stick to one key. If you want to include it though just go half a step up from the key you’re playing it in. When I play it in my band I play it with a capo on the 5th fret and then just slide it up to the 6th fret at the appropriate moment!
Hell yea fall outs radio station are so lit
They certainly are :)
I find G minor so hard Matt.Changing from E minor to G minor is still holding me back from playing I,ll remember you by Elvis.I keep trying also varying which finger order to place first.Any advice on that would also be appreciated Matt.
I feel your pain Carl, it's so tough and frustrating. The only bit of advice I can think of that might help is just to stick at it. If you keep practising the change from Em to Gm regularly, even really slowly, then eventually you'll get to a point where your fingers will get used to it and you'll find you can make the change more smoothly. I found practising little and often is the key. One day you'll find you can do it, but it takes a lot of frustration and perseverance to get to that point. Keep going :)
@@mattjamesmusicyork Thanks Matt I shall keep at it..🙏
GREAT COVER...AND so helpful in learning a complicated song in recordings!!!

Hi Matt, another great lesson I remember your great tutorial on "The sun always shines on TV" too. The finger picking is explained well, thanks. In the original Kenny Rogers version I believe the last (2?) verses/choruses modulates up a note?
